Boris says we’re going to be gossiped about

If we don’t get back to the office.

The only person being gossiped about is you Boris, you immoral, philandering, misogynistic, incompetent clown.

As for playing on people’s insecurities by suggesting they’ll be gossiped about if they’re not in the office, well that’s just Boris being a pathetic cunt.

Agreed.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 05/10/2021 18:46

@MurielSpriggs

Why are we calling the lying cunt "Boris"?
You’re right. Johnson.

It’s not just commercial landlords that should be worried - it’s anyone with a pension fund, which are invested heavily in commercial property.

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 18:47

Why bollocks? Of course there are some exceptions but generally people in Eastern Europe, China, India, and elsewhere are perfectly capable of doing the same jobs.

Good point. So basically lots of people.
Ijustknowitstimetogo · 05/10/2021 18:50

@DixonD

It’s true though!
He’s trying to frighten us and emotionally blackmail us because we’ve found a way to do our jobs and have a better work/ life balance?

Does he think we will care if small minded petty control mongers ‘gossip’ about us?

We can’t all just go off on holidays for months at a time and neglect our jobs like he does.

OP posts:
Squirrelblanket · 05/10/2021 18:50

As if the threat of being gossiped about is going to have everyone scurrying back to the office. Who gives a f* about that. 😂

Just shows, once more, how out of touch he is.

FedUpOfBloodyCovid · 05/10/2021 18:54

If your job can be done remotely from
the UK, it can be done remotely from Eastern Europe/China/India just as well. You might want to think about this, too.

Except that a lot of employers don’t want to have to deal with outsourced workers, overseas tax implications and non-native English speakers. I speak from experience.

thevassal · 05/10/2021 18:54

@Gubanc

Eleganz,

"Well if you can do your job from home, what is the problem?

The idea that people can't be trusted to work from home is something that the past 18 months should have told people is utter bollocks.

Old fashioned thinking."

If your job can be done remotely from
the UK, it can be done remotely from Eastern Europe/China/India just as well. You might want to think about this, too.

Ah yes of course. Because there are millions of people in those countries with the exact qualifications, skillset and background knowledge as people in the UK who have spent their entire career developing the same? Just to pick one example of, say, a property conveyancer/solicitor - are there really tens of thousands of people in china and india who:
  • Are completely fluent (not just a working understanding, or fairly good, but able to understand and discuss complex and convoluted process and legal guidance) in English
  • are fully qualified in relevant aspect of UK housing/property/conveyancing law
  • have a working, current knowledge of all aspects of the same
  • have developed relationships with relevant stakeholders (local estate agents, banks, land registry, etc).
  • are prepared to work UK hours to be able to communicate with customers and stakeholders

Times this by every other single other specialist, specific job that has been successfully WFH.

Also, hundreds of thousands of jobs were WFH even before covid. Surely as soon as one person did a WFH job successfully we would have seen this max exodus before then?

The trend for the last 5 years has been to bring even call centre jobs back to the UK because outsourcing them was so unsuccessful. If we couldn't even deal with someone in India ordering us a new router how are we going to successfully outsource financial transactions, house sales, policy making, taxation, insurance, healthcare, etc etc.

The gossip line is a distraction. He made some good points separate from that.

It's only a good work/life balance for a minority - those privileged enough to have a suitable work from home environment, and who are at a settled stage of life.

More balance - as in couple of days at home a week - is also quite different from full-time permanent WFH.

I don't get why Boris would even think that. More gossip goes on when people are in the office.
The best thing about WFH is the silence of office gossip and office politics

Well then he needs a better speech writer because the gossip line was obviously going to be the one that got picked up on and reported the most.
Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 18:59

One minute people from abroad are considered good enough to do the jobs. The next minute they're not. People need to make their minds up.

Guess what? Lots of people from around the world currently work in all sorts of roles in the UK (and from abroad). There are plenty with the skills, training, ability, and perfectly fluent English.

Volterra · 05/10/2021 18:59

The Liar Minister says many things, most of which anyone who is a grip on reality ignores as we all know what he says is a load of rubbish and lies the overwhelming amount of the time.

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:00

More gossip goes on when people are in the office.

Which was his point. Gossip about those not in the office.

StripeyBadger · 05/10/2021 19:00

Maybe he is judging everyone’s behaviour by his standards as most people don’t do things that cause gossip.

Nightbringer · 05/10/2021 19:01

@Tealightsandd what job do you do?

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:04

@Nightbringer
I was doing the balance - working from home 1/2 days a week long before the pandemic

Quite different from full-time WFH.

Nightbringer · 05/10/2021 19:04

Office gossip is vile.

Most people will be quite happy to not be able to hear it, whilst wfh.

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/10/2021 19:05

It feels like an insidious way of getting people back in to help businesses in town centres.

Lokdok · 05/10/2021 19:08

@DixonD

It’s true though!
In what world!? Absolute bollocks.
Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:09

@AdoptedBumpkin

Well it's a very important issue. Huge numbers of livelihoods are at risk - with many knock on consequences.

Didn't you worry about the economy? Surely you should have not worked from home at all. If you and other hybrid workers had been out spending maybe the economy would have been in a better state, going into the pandemic

No worry about people gossiping when you weren't there?

I take it you went into the office all through the pandemic. Through choice. They opened up for you?

When working part time from home, Didn't you worry about all the people who didn't have a decent set up at home to hybrid work?

Of course you didn't, neither did I.

Fwiw, most wfh are actually hybrid workers and also meet people or work in offices face to face.

You really should go in full time. Its the right thing to do

GreenLunchBox · 05/10/2021 19:11

When asked about crimes against women Bozo said what we need to do is focus on the real crimes.

Misogynistic twat

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:12

Why?

I've never advocated for full-time WFH.

I'm very supportive of more flexible balance.

The key is balance.

There's a world of difference between 1/2 days at home and full-time.
