Our ds was almost a year for his first Xmas. He got a little sit on toy, blocks, books. Just little things that we knew he would use.

I think for DDs first Christmas we did just 1 present and other people bought her plenty! She had no idea there was anything going on anyway.

For my (at the time) 9 month DD last Christmas I got her the set of Tales from Acorn lift the flap books, a boat bath toy and a personalised Christmas Stitch soft toy from the Disney Store.

There was no point getting her much else as the rest of family and got her presents and truthfully, she didn't really care.

Stacking cups have had a long life for my DD so they're a good idea. Board books as well, maybe a ball? DD started enjoying sitting on her rocking horse at that age if you wanted to get a big present.

I'd go for things that will last into the future but are also fine for a baby (so basically anything that's not a choking hazard). DD was 11.5 months at Christmas and the toy she plays with most is a Duplo set. When she was tiny she liked to tear it apart, now she likes to build it.

We never bought the babies things. But we did wrap up there favourite toys. Always a big smile to open it!

You've got to think about that they're using it from 8 months until 20 months or even longer - that's how I saw it at least

Books
Stacking toys
Walker
Ball pit
Shape sorter
Pull along toy
Walker (not everyone likes them)
Music instruments
One of those ramps / large wood ball run (my boys who will be 3 in January still plays with it)
