Cat lovers would you buy this at a craft fair?

I am doing my first craft fair in December I make dog and cat collars. I also plan on doing some low cost items aswell like treats and toys and blankets ect.

This is a cat mat it's thicker than a blanket and can save a sofa or bed getting too hairy?

Is this something that would interest cat owners? What price would you pay for something like this I was thinking £5? I don't want to make a few up if they are useless.

Im not looking to make a huge profit just cover costs and maybe some extra. It's just a hobby for me and not needed to pay the bills.

Ps the lighting is crap this evening its a blush pink.

I wouldn't but I think others would. It's very nicely done.

TreasuredMim · 04/10/2021 20:12

It's an attractive little blanket, but my cat would get her claws caught in it and pink wouldn't link to my colour scheme.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 04/10/2021 20:14

I am going to if they are worth doing in different colours. Cream, grey, mustard, bright multi tonal.

Love your bedding and if the blanket was ochre I'd love it in a larger size (match my similar bedding!).

MrsApplepants · 04/10/2021 20:15

My cat would get her claws caught in it and would prefer a faux fur or fleece mat (she goes for warmth over good taste)

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/10/2021 20:15

My parents buy something very similar from Ikea for their cat and sofa for £3 I think. Yes, I imagine they’d pay around £5 for yours - but that would barely cover the costs of your material surely, let alone pay for your time making it and cover costs (like overheads involved in selling such as entry fees to the craft fair.)

MrsApplepants · 04/10/2021 20:15

It’s very nice though

mayblossominapril · 04/10/2021 20:16

I think it’s really nice but make some in colours that will go with peoples decor. I make and sell crafts and beige and pale grey things are top sellers

TheSpottedZebra · 04/10/2021 20:16

Its nicely done, but i think that would be a bugger for hair getting trapped in, and my cats would twat about with the tassels.

RandomMess · 04/10/2021 20:16

Cat would destroy that unfortunately.

Skysblue · 04/10/2021 20:17

It lovely but personally I wouldn’t buy it. If my cat liked it she would shred it, if she didn’t she’d ignore it. She usually changes where she sleeps every couple of days anyway.

MadamMedea · 04/10/2021 20:17

I probably wouldn’t, purely because it’s not totally to my taste. But I think it’s nicely made and cute, so I’m sure that others would.

CrazyCatLady13 · 04/10/2021 20:18

Catnip mats are great, make one with a pocket you can put catnip in. Sell them with a small bag of catnip. It saves the catnip going everywhere and cats love getting under it & rolling around with it!

speakout · 04/10/2021 20:19

I think it pretty and looks useful, but you won't be making any money.
A lot of time and effort to break even- at best.

Aprilx · 04/10/2021 20:20

I have two cats and two dogs and I wouldn’t consider it suitable for a pet bed / mat. I can imagine it getting clogged with shedded pet hair fairly quickly and don’t think it would come clean easily.

Detest · 04/10/2021 20:22

My cat is currently asleep on my laptop bag right next to his plush bed. His sister is asleep in a primark bag. Sorry, I never bother with 'cat things' now.

Pottedpalm · 04/10/2021 20:22

Its beautiful. You are talented. Craft fares can be ruthless.
Be confident of time and material costings . Stick to neutral shades. Hoping all goes well .

Hoppinggreen · 04/10/2021 20:25

No but purely because of claws getting caught

CausingChaos2 · 04/10/2021 20:26

If you make it a little slimmer it would be ideal as a windowsill mat. I would definitely buy one for £5.

Simonjt · 04/10/2021 20:28

No, as others have said her claws would get caught in it

Thecathouse · 04/10/2021 20:28

I made something similar for my cat on the windowsill - but I knitted it with tshirt yarn which is very durable and thick and washes on 60

If it was bulky and the yarn used is easily washable (so cotton, tshirt yarn, bamboo, acrylic as opposed to pure wool) I would buy it.

You are really selling yourself short at £5 though. Knitting and crochet is a skill - make sure you get some money for your time and effort

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 04/10/2021 20:29

I plan on making some cat nip mice and wands similar to these will display them in a fish tank too think it looks really funny.

The £5 covers my wool costs with a little profit, definitely not my time but it's a hobby and I sit watching telly doing it Grin

Slimmer is definitely an option and label it as a windowsill mat. T shirt yarn is a great idea but a bit too pricey to then be able to sell on.

Claws getting caught is a problem I didn't even think of
