I have a little horror but who wants to step things up a bit this year but not sure what to watch with her! I was thinking maybe some of the older scary films as they’re not really scary anymore.
So far she’s watched and enjoyed:

Little shop of horrors
Rocky horror picture Show
Goosebumps (and read all of the books!)
Nightbooks
Addams family
A few episodes of Sabrina

Probably a few others.
She said she wants to actually feel scared for the next one.
Not too scary though please as I am a wimp!

Scooby Doo?

Fatya · 03/10/2021 21:51

Beetlejuice?

FlyingWhistle · 03/10/2021 22:01

Eriee Indianna and Round the Twist

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 03/10/2021 22:14

"Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children" is awesome. I was a bit freaked out at a scene on the cliffs (no one died, don't worry)
No gore or inappropriate bits.

LookAtMoiPloise · 03/10/2021 22:18

I'd honestly recommend Sleepy Hollow then. It's Tim Burton, so not ridiculously scary/gory. But a good spooky film.

SpicyPickle22 · 03/10/2021 22:20

She’s seen pretty much all of these suggestions, but thank you guys I really appreciate it!

She’s definitely too grown up for her own good. I’m just grateful that everything is online now and she can’t sneak video tapes like I used to ha!

Sleepy Hollow? For a 7 yr old? It's rated 15 ffs, why would you let your child watch that at 7?!

CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther · 03/10/2021 22:28

Wtf Rocky horror is just one long smut fest

CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther · 03/10/2021 22:30

So she never has any unsupervised access to the internet? Hmm

YouMadeABear · 03/10/2021 22:37

For those thinking of Gremlins, remember there's a scene about Santa.

I came to suggest Halloweentown so I'll be leaving now Blush I thought my 8yo might be old enough for Hocus Pocus this year but she's not.

PartyPotato · 03/10/2021 22:38

The Haunting. I was obsessed with it as a child. It’s rated 12 but there’s no adult themes (sex, gory violence, offensive language), so she’d be able to just enjoy the story and the scares (which aren’t too horrific).

RightOnTheEdge · 03/10/2021 22:39

Rocky Horror, Gremlins, poltergeist, Blair Witch, The Lost Boys.
I let my kids watch films that are a bit older like Marvel films but I cant believe people are suggesting 15 horror films for a 7yr old!

Coronado2 · 03/10/2021 22:41

Are people actually serious with the things they are suggesting for children to watch on here at the moment? Was it yesterday someone was watching squid games with their 9 year old? Some of these are so inappropriate.

She might want to be scared, but do you give her everything she wants?
Hocus Pocus and the Nightmare before Christmas is as scary as I'd go at 7.

RandomUsernameHere · 03/10/2021 22:47

Glad I found this thread as my DCs absolutely love Halloween!! Agree some of the films mentioned would be too scary for 7 year olds though

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/10/2021 22:51

There's a cartoon sleepy hollow which was quite creepy

Mine loved monster house at that age and other films mentioned like coroline frankinweenie etc

SpicyPickle22 · 03/10/2021 22:58

Erm… no!

The house with a clock in its walls..

LadyGAgain · 03/10/2021 23:01

@LittleLego

Coraline is quite creepy
My 4 year old loves it!

Addams family - animated or film?
Gremlins
Ghostbusters original
Hocus Pocus

Sunshinesandice · 03/10/2021 23:08

I watched all the poltergeists when I was between 8-10

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/10/2021 23:18
@TimeIhadaNameChange - Moondial! I loved that as a kid. Not thought about it in years!
I'm glad someone else remembers it! love it. I have it on video (yes, really!) and watch it every few years. Will definitely have to watch it this year now.

This is a 7 year old that has watched Rocky Horror and most of the other suggestions on here. So, not really that shocking of a suggestion lmao.

Same
HoppingPavlova · 04/10/2021 03:22

Nightmare Before Christmas.

Rocky horror picture Show wow - for a 7yo that’s actually verging on SS stuff. Wildly inappropriate and you seriously lack judgement. It’s one of my absolute favourite films and I’ll happily watch it with friends but if i’m watching tv with my adult kids and it comes on, once we come up to the first sex scene I’ll suddenly find some cleaning up in the kitchen that needs to be done for the rest of the film Grin. How on earth you think this is appropriate for a 7yo Confused.

onelittlefrog · 04/10/2021 03:31

If she likes Goosebumps, look up a show called Eerie Indiana. It might be on YouTube.

Locke and Key.

The Witches.

Coraline.

Also worth bearing in mind that sometimes 7/8 year olds say they want to be scared but if they actually do get scared they will be unhappy, so you need to be careful.

HoppingPavlova · 04/10/2021 03:35

Absolutely. Ratings and guidance seem to mean nothing with this one! Many of the 15+ things mentioned I let some of mine who were seriously into horror watch around 12/13 but not all, it was judicious as to which ones of those were a yes at that time. I let through most of the American teen summer camp scream type, the hysterics and drama of the teens was indeed horror in itself imo, and if you could sit through the inane hysteria of teens with a side serving of innocent snogging while someone’s trying to kill them, hats off to you Grin. But even then as 7yo’s based in ‘but they like horror’, no fucking way let alone many others I wouldn’t let them watch until the 15yo mark.
