I have a little horror but who wants to step things up a bit this year but not sure what to watch with her! I was thinking maybe some of the older scary films as they’re not really scary anymore.
So far she’s watched and enjoyed:

Little shop of horrors
Rocky horror picture Show
Goosebumps (and read all of the books!)
Nightbooks
Addams family
A few episodes of Sabrina

Probably a few others.
She said she wants to actually feel scared for the next one.
Not too scary though please as I am a wimp!

Gremlins? Scared me when I was little!

StevieNix · 03/10/2021 12:27

The goosebumps series on Netflix is perfect for that age! I find it a bit scary now and I like proper horror films!
Also it’s not scary but the Halloween town films on Disney + are great for kids and have that 90’s American Halloween vibe!

Kanaloa · 03/10/2021 12:40

Stranger Things is too terrifying but Blair Witch is totally fine Confused bizzare.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/10/2021 12:41

Not a film, but Moondial isn't too long to be watched in one sitting. The spinning moondial used to freak me out at her age.

It's available as a DVD on Amazon.

Tidypidy · 03/10/2021 12:47

My 8yo finds some of Scooby Doo films a bit scary.

YourFinestPantaloons · 03/10/2021 12:48

Hocus Pocus is amazing

feesh · 03/10/2021 13:02

Honestly I only suggested Blair Witch because I don’t remember a single thing about it, apart from it not being in the slightest bit scary. I’ll get my coat….

dundermifflinpapersalesman1 · 03/10/2021 13:06

@SarahBellam

Shaun of the Dead.
The OP will probably think that's a good idea too 🤦🏻‍♀️
SpicyPickle22 · 03/10/2021 13:19

We’re watching the old goosebumps series. I didn’t realise they were on Netflix!

Nimle · 03/10/2021 21:10

Ghostbusters the original one ,that used to scare me as a child

HappyBus · 03/10/2021 21:13

Spirited Away

Labyrinth
Coraline
Corpse Bride
Nightmare Before Christmas
Hocus Pocus

Casper

tootiredtospeak · 03/10/2021 21:23

I would not suggest stranger things my 9yr old DS watched it I dont know why we thought it would be okay he was petrified by the second series and has slept terribly since. I would suggest Hocus Pocus Little Vampire Monster House Coraline The Witches new or old.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 03/10/2021 21:23

Coraline is freaky even for adults but it's for kids

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 03/10/2021 21:25

Your 7 year old has watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show?? Christ on a bike I can’t believe more people aren’t shocked by this!! I’m a die hard Rocky Horror fan and it is absolutely inappropriate for a young child!! Chock full of sexual content.

As for The Lost Boys - it’s a 15 for a reason. Sweet Jesus.

Bex268 · 03/10/2021 21:25

Poltergeist 😳😳😳😳😳😳

So SO inappropriate. That film still gives me the creeps and I’m 38! Don’t do it to her.

emlouwat · 03/10/2021 21:33

Goosebumps
Ghostbusters
Gremlins
Hocus pocus
A series of unfortunate events

MiddleClassProblem · 03/10/2021 21:37

Monster house is creepy

Also not a film but would recommend Creeped Out on Netflix as a creepy series.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 03/10/2021 21:39

You could get a series going? How about Buffy the Vampire Slayer - most early episodes are pretty tame iirc.

LookAtMoiPloise · 03/10/2021 21:41

Corpse Bride
Sleepy Hollow
Edward Scissorhands
Beetlejuice

MiddleClassProblem · 03/10/2021 21:48

She may not get scared in it but I would add Spirited Away to the list.
Maybe Beetlejuice? I think it might be worth checking for sexual content as that’s what we avoid for DD. I don’t want her thinking women are just there for groping or ornamental etc to we are careful what we expose her too. I am surprised you think Rocky Horror is fine as it seems more about sex than anything else.
