CF postman?

My neighbor had his front door replaced with a more traditional looking wooden door with large black metal hinges and door knocker.
It suits the property and I thought nothing more of it.

Since the door has been changed I have been recieving the neighbors post. I have been round to post them back thinking it was a mistake only to find I can't fit larger letters in his letterbox so have resorted to knocking and trying to give them back. Most of the time he doesn't answer so I leave them behind a plant pot and post a note through the door but it's becoming annoying and I don't think it should be down to me to deliver his post!

I was in the front garden this morning and caught the postman putting my neighbors letters in my letterbox again. I asked him not to do this and to deliver them next door or leave a note if he was unable, or simply don't deliver them!

He then said he didn't have time for that and it was easier to deliver them here or the other side neighbours and for us to take them round. He can't stand all day knocking on doors!

It's there a way to get this to stop?! I have reported this to royal mail online but I doubt that will stop it.

Why can’t he just leave the post by the door? That’s what my postie does if it won’t go through the letterbox. Sometimes he leaves me a note on one of their calling cards to let me know.

Notaroadrunner · 01/10/2021 19:47

Wait for him on Monday and tell him that any post not for your household will be thrown in the bin. Also tell your neighbour that the postman is giving you their post. I'd be furious if postman was giving my post to a neighbour, as they may not hand it over the same day or could forget to hand it over at all.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 01/10/2021 20:01

Pop them in your nearest post box so the postman will keep getting them back to deliver again.

Lancrelady80 · 01/10/2021 20:03

Find out where he is working out of (your nearest delivery office) and contact his manager directly. He will get an absolute bollocking for deliberately misdelivering mail.

LadyLolaRuben · 01/10/2021 20:20

Im pretty certain that legally the postman must deliver mail to the specified address and no where else unless agreed otherwise. If not, it must be returned by the postman to the collection office

jillandhersprite · 01/10/2021 20:28

I would let the post build up for a while and then when it's a nice big pile, take it and a copy of your original complaint to the sorting office and hand it over to a manager.

This pop into your local sorting office and they will sort it out. End of.

Best idea as it shows it clearly.

I’d also be tempted just to film him and your conversation eg excuse mr postman this mail is for next door when he tries to hand it to you and film what he says- we are all bloody busy

You can't do this op. It's not the neighbous fault the posite is a knob. There could be important doc's etc.
malmi · 01/10/2021 20:33

Write "DELIVERED TO WRONG ADDRESS" on them and put them in the postbox again. Whatever they do with them, it becomes your neighbours/the royal mail's problem instead of being yours.

ScoobyDoobyDooooo · 01/10/2021 20:34

My postman used to do a similar thing to avoid a neighbours long drive. I started putting it all back in the postbox.

KrisAkabusi · 01/10/2021 20:34

Sounds like the letter-opening in your neighbour's door doesn't confirm to minimum sizes. I can see why the postman is annoyed. But it's not your responsibility. Tell your neighbour to tell the postie not to deliver his stuff to you.

underneaththeash · 01/10/2021 20:37

Chuck em over the fence.

Pinklittle · 01/10/2021 20:40

Haha

whatnumber · 01/10/2021 20:42

How well do you get on with your neighbour?! Will you ever need a favour in return?

We get on fine, an occasional hello if he's in his front garden or we cross paths but other than that we don't communicate.

I'm not sure what favour I would ever need from him that would warrant me dealing with his post for however long this postman decides...

Surely the solution is to speak with your neighbour and tell them to either fit a box his post will fit 8n or any post left in your box will go straight in the bin

EcoCustard · 01/10/2021 21:19

Contact your delivery office manager directly if you can’t call them go into the office. It’s a big no no to leave Mail with someone who isn’t the recipient as per the address. Postie should return it to the office if they cannot deliver they are being a lazy sod as well as a CF.

SquareWindow · 01/10/2021 21:22

Royal Mail customer service will just respond with a copied and pasted answer, I’ve had no help from them for 3 separate issues.

NoTimeToDye · 01/10/2021 21:23

If post is too big for the letterbox then Royal Mail are within their rights to deliver it to a neighbour. See here

www.royalmail.com/help/concerns-over-size-contents-of-item

NoTimeToDye · 01/10/2021 21:26

But it looks like you can opt out of Delivery to Neighbour and request a sticker to show that you've done it so you don't get any more

www.royalmail.com/help/item-left-with-neighbour

"After we’ve received your details we’ll send you a sticker for you to display on or near your letterbox. You should receive the sticker within four working days of completing the form.

Once the opt-out sticker is on display we won’t deliver your mail to a neighbour or ask you to accept your neighbours mail."

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/10/2021 21:37

I complained online about a neighbour's post being delivered to me.
We saw the postie a week later and he apologised for the letters and said he'd had a right bollocking from his manager. I felt awful.

It's worth a complaint, especially as your postie seems like a dick.

TheSparkling · 01/10/2021 21:55

I feel like we are all blaming the postie here but the real issue is the neighbour has a letter box that is not fit for purpose.

Take the post and tell your neighbour what the issue is. Then take it up with the postie that you are not going to accept someone else's post and do the opt out sticker.

Honestly I think the neighbour is the issue here even if he doesn't realise it yet.

It's for the post man to take it up with the neighbour. No one else
