Two of the spindly spiders on the bathroom ceiling the past couple of days. I leave them as I believe they eat the others.

When I last went to the bathroom there was another spider. Not huge but a thicker one 🤮 Will the other two eat it? They were all on the claiming. Each of the soundly ones a bit away from the other one which was in the middle?

I have done raid but thought I might let nature take its course!

AIBU to assigns they'll eat it??

I like it when they have a tidy up of their web and you just have a pile of dead creatures one day

MakingM · 01/10/2021 19:51

@Autumngoldleaf

Making m

One fatal night when I was a young teen I was awoken by a bite!
Jumped out of bed, lights in etc and it was a spindly.

But... They just don't scare me like the others and I never see them in my space eg like the huge ones running straight for uiu

That’s it. They are all goners. No mercy. 😂
BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 01/10/2021 20:01

So I googled that abs it said their teeth cant pierce human flesh but I suppose they could nip you?

Gosh

I left a few in my bedroom recently

They didn't bother me

But wondering why they're co Greg sting in the bathroom?

Maybe because I don't think I've sprayed the deterrent in there...

Cellar spiders will take on other spiders. For that reason, I evict them from my house! I love spiders. Try not to worry about them. They’re not interested in going near you. They don’t want to touch you. They don’t want to bite you. And if they do feel forced to bite you, it will do you absolutely no harm. There are no spider bites in the UK that pose a health risk.

Thank you. You've just cured me of a lifelong phobia of spiders Hmm

I have got better. There was a time I sound y have been able to go to bed knowing there were 3 spiders in the bathroom. I've left a similar number of cellar spiders in my bedroom too.

But the other ones... well oit it this way, I'm going to stop reading this thread now since I'm hoping to sleep soon

Totally unrelated but I was out the back a few nights ago and could hear a very loud noise I turned around and it was a spider munching on a fly in its web it was soooo loud

GianaSister · 01/10/2021 20:24

@EvilPea
Why would you do that?
Just put them outside if you don’t want them.

The majority of house spiders will automatically die if you put them outside in this weather so I suppose if you’re going to do either or, it really makes no difference as to how they go.

NewMutiny · 01/10/2021 20:30

I thought the spindly ones were Harvestman(men?) and not spiders at all??

Really?

Eek!

Donetrying1 · 01/10/2021 20:51

I hate spiders but l try not to kill them in case they come back in another life, take their revenge,Hmmcrawl up the toilet and bite me on my bum (yes l'm being serious)

SickAndTiredAgain · 01/10/2021 20:55

House spiders are endangered

Good.

(Yes, I know, they kill the insects and we need them etc etc)

Cuddlyrottweiler · 01/10/2021 20:56

Don't use raid! Can't believe people even buy that still!
One of them will probably attack it, I've seen one attack a very angry wasp, they give no shits. But it's still just a spider, just leave it alone.

That's awesome. There's a beast of one that was under our TV cabinet. I only saw it because I heard it running along the floor!

They're beautiful, remarkable animals that keep mozzies and flies at bay.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/10/2021 20:59

No.

They will mate with it and they will produce a terrifying spider offspring.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/10/2021 21:02

They do. They set out trying to find places to bite where it will hurt even more than on the places where they have bitten you earlier.

I spent the summer scratching and applying antihistamine cream on the dozens of bites the bastards inflicted on me. I hope they all burn in hell.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 01/10/2021 21:09

I've seen one spindly ones take out a HUGE hairy black house spider. It was ninja quick.
It wrapped it in web and spent a couple of days eating it before releasing the desiccated carcass to the floor.

Ever since the spindly ones can live in my house completely unharmed by hoover or duster.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 01/10/2021 21:13

@SummersOverSeasideTown
In our house all the spindly ones are called Jim! 😂

rawhidebone · 01/10/2021 21:43

How can they eat those massive, chunky, hairy spiders and still have basically no bodies and legs as thin as strands of hair? I've got loads in my house and I've let them all crack on hoping that they will take out the massive spiders but they've done nothing but waft around pointlessly.

If I hoovered up one of the fat spiders I would have to put the hoover in the bin as I couldn't bring myself to empty it in case the spider touched me. And whoever said they don't want to touch us is wrong, they're always waiting to crawl up a dressing gown sleeve or hide in a towel or the bottom of a shoe 😭

We haven’t had frosts yet. They stand a better chance finding a new home then being ripped apart by the hoover.

dancinfeet · 01/10/2021 23:49

Long handled spider catcher from Amazon was a game changer for me. Out of the door / window they go.

Furries · 02/10/2021 04:04

Cellar spiders - the Kate Moss of the spider world!

Flummoxed by those who evict the spindly ones so that the big fat bastards can run amok 🤣

I HATE spiders. Had the fear since I was a kid. Since living in my current house, I’ve learnt to “accept” the cellar spiders. Firstly, seen a couple take out the bigger ones. Secondly, was told that they are helpful in a timber-framed property as they keep wood-munching bugs at bay. So I let them be.

Am not scared of crane flies - which, in my mind, are somewhat like flying spiders! So I see cellar spiders as crane flies in training! Obviously nuts and not correct, but it helps me with leaving cellar spiders alone.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 02/10/2021 07:18

I don't really like crane flies for this reason.

I need the loo now but have been reluctant to go in the bathroom so haven't been in since I posted about 12 hours ago 😬

I don't know what I will find...

vampirethriller · 02/10/2021 07:28

I keep the cellar spiders around because they eat the others, stay in their own space and don't run about the place being big hairy bastards. I haven't had a nasty spider incident since.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 02/10/2021 07:29

UPDATE

One of the spindly ones hasn't moved

Couldn't see the second one

The black one is now above the toilet Envy (not envy)

I only bought Raid this week in my Ocado shop because it was recommended by MNetters along with the flea treatment which I have also considered getting
