To ask for your help with Alan

Alan is a 5 month old cat Grin

He is a dirty little ape. I have witnessed with my own eyes him peeing in:

  1. a full bag of shopping on the kitchen floor.
  2. his play tunnel
  3. my linen basket

Which makes me think there’s plenty more places he’s pissed when I wasn’t looking. I’m recovering from covid and my sense of smell isn’t great, but I keep thinking I can smell cat wee everywhere Sad

He’s been neutered. He’s squatting down and doing a full wee rather than spraying. He has a litter tray which he does use, but it would appear sometimes he can’t be arsed. Litter tray is cleaned regularly.

Cat experts, please help!

You could try changing his litter. Try one that feels like sand. He might not like the feel of the litter, if it's too rough for his delicate feetsies.

esloquehay · 02/10/2021 20:45

Alan, Kaleb has no words to express how disappointed he is with you for your bad peeing fetish.

Happy update Grin

Alan loves tiddle-crapping in his new litter tray, he has really gone to town with it the last 24 hours. Hopefully problem solved, thanks wise cat ladies.

P.S thanks for the wallpaper compliments, I love it too Smile

Oh great news!

Can you confine him to one room with clean litter in? He may then forget about peeing somewhere else and learn to stick to the little tray. Also does he go outside yet? I haven't got litter trays for mine and they all go outside fine.

Plus I would say, clean everywhere else that he has peed with enzyme cleaner - they can still smell it if you use normal disinfectant. And also feliway works well. I have a cat that will pee if she's stressed - but that doesn't seem to be the case with Alan.

He's beautiful. I love black cats (but have ended up with completely neurotic tortoiseshells instead) . I do have a black dog called Dave.

Elieza · 03/10/2021 20:46

Result! Glad he’s enjoying his tray. Grin

@ghostyslovesheets -their tails are absurd, they are both like squirrels 🐿! Here’s a picture which demonstrates just how poofy Alan’s tail is. They like to join me for a bath.

Just adorable!

FolkyFoxFace · 03/10/2021 22:52

I can't help, but I love the choice of name. I knew a very clever black cat called Alan. He was a real character. I swear he could understand his human when he spoke to him - I've never seen a cat behave like Alan did before.

I hope he's still kicking about.

This thread made me smile! Lots of love to your lovely boy!

Hatsuma · 03/10/2021 23:06

@FolkyFoxFace - what, there’s another black cat called Alan? Grin

There is! At least I certainly hope he's still adventuring and keeping his human excellent company. Grin He was rather a famous cat in our circles too. His human used to make very surreal videos all about him. 😂

Your Alan certainly has a sparkle in his eye, I hope he's the next in a long line of Alanish black cats to bring joy and amusement to all who know him. Grin

That is some major tail floof! They are gorgeous. I take it they don’t try and get in the water though!!

Hatsuma · 05/10/2021 09:53

@elieza they happily sit there with their big dangly tails fanning out in the water, and Hattie has slipped and half fallen in a couple of times, much to her disgust. She then glares at me whilst licking herself dry like it was my fault 🤷‍♀️.

I know a cat named Disco Alan.

Hatsuma · 05/10/2021 10:43

@EducatingArti 🤣🤣 dd2 wanted to call him Midnight Alan when we first got him, but I said no as I thought it sounded a bit too much like a porn star name 🤣. I do like Disco Alan though 🤔

Late night emergency - Alan has escaped 😳😳😳.

They both came in a couple of hours ago, the first time they’d been out that late. I locked the cat flap, came upstairs and the cats came with me. Then Alan trotted off downstairs and i heard a bang. I went down and realised like an absolute dickhead I had locked the cat flap so that it was just locked to get back in, not both ways.

Now Hattie is losing her mind and crying because she wants Alan back (she hasn’t sussed out how to use the cat flap yet). Alan can use it both ways and it’s unlocked now so he can get back in, but WTF do I do? I’m worried because he’s never been out late at night before and never been out without Hattie, they tend to stick together.

Aaargh, have a busy day tomorrow and now I’m going to be up all night waiting for Alan to return.

ilovesooty · 06/10/2021 01:03

Bless you, glad Alan returned!
How gorgeous are they both?! Envy

JustRambling · 07/10/2021 03:39

Agree with others who have suggested different litter. Our cat Amber who is now 18 was 2 years old when we adopted her (she had been used for breeding). We were told by the pet shop that she had already been sold to a different family but they returned her because she wee'd on the carpet. We took her home with us but used the same litter that was in her cage - no problems at all. The best cat/friend ever - except for Alan of course.

Raffles1981 · 07/10/2021 06:05

This is Monty Bear the Goldie and Mr Parchie (formally Archie but our tiny human renamed him) and this thread has made our day! Glad all is well with Alan OP. Mr Parchie started wandering out for longer periods as he got braver. That is not to say I didn't have sleepless nights waiting for him Blush

I’ve owned cats before but never worried about them going out at night before, I think I’m not sure about these two going out as we live fairly close to a main road and I worry about them getting squashed. Not sure whether to keep them in at night forever or accept that at some point they will have to take their chances.

Here’s a very cute photo I took of Alan last night 😍.
