To consider breast reduction?

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 18:27

I have a tall, slim size 10 frame with 34FF breasts, plus a type of scoliosis where the front-back (as opposed to sideways) curves in my spine are in the wrong places.

My osteopath warned me I should never gain weight, but these bitches must weigh a lot.

It causes tiredness, more susceptibility to strain / injury etc.

I'm also fed up of trying to fit into nice clothes and failing. I like the flat-chested look.

I doubt this would be available on the NHS but would worry about spending ££££s for an A cup but they might grow back anyway.

Should I just be grateful? I'm sick of them flapping about.

Ah it's probably not even possible to go down 8 cup sizes anyway..

Is your osteopath nhs or private? It might be worth asking if they think a breast reduction would be beneficial given your scoliosis. Perhaps your gp or any specialist you are under could make a referral. I do know of someone who got a breast reduction on the nhs on health grounds, although it was many years ago so it's worth a try.

RobertaFirmino · 30/09/2021 21:10

I think you should definitely look into it. You deserve to have a comfortable life. Why not call your GP tomorrow and ask if you could email a doc purely for advice? That's probably the best starting point. Good luck!

RampantIvy · 30/09/2021 21:15

If you are a size 10 you are probably not a 34FF. Until you can have surgery it is really worth using the Boob or Bust calculator to get your correct bra size and buy some correct sized bras. This will help in the meantime.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:16

Thank you for your replies!

My osteo was private and I think I'll arrange an appointment with him about it, for his opinion.

My local NHS commissioners guidelines say that breast reduction is "not routinely commissioned" so that probably means no, even for health reasons, so possibly no point approaching GP.

They've referred me for loads recently and will probably regard me as a hypochondriac!

The cost seems a lot but husband is paying 4.5k for braces at the moment.

I've had it done, not quite as disproportionate as you as I was a bit bigger all over but it was life changing for me. It's done wonders for my confidence as well as appearance, also enables me to take part in more sports that I would never have considered before. Best money I have ever spent but agree with PP that it sounds like you could get it on health grounds.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:18

If you are a size 10 you are probably not a 34FF

I think it's 32FF in most bras I have. Been experimenting with wire-free as others are too painful, but not having much luck

That's good dreams - must feel so freeing!

You should mention it to your GP, especially with your back problem

You're not very young, considering you have a husband Grin but are you within an age you could still BF?

Also, maybe not an A cup, that would be drastic. I think I would go for at least a C cup (I'm a 30 FF)

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:25

I'm 41, no more babies for me Grin

I'm worried that a C cup could easily grow back to my size though.

I just want to cut them off! But that sounds mad...

If the CCG don't commission breast reduction I have no choice but to go private. You can't approach other geographic areas, can you?

RampantIvy · 30/09/2021 21:25

I'm not an expert because I have the opposite problem to you, but there are a lot of knowledgeable mumsnetters who can advise on bra sizing. You need to measure under your bust and over to get your correct size. I would be very surprised that your underbust measurement is 34" if you are a size 10.

Having the right band size offers so much more support.

Cheesewiz · 30/09/2021 21:26

I feel you, I'm also a size 10 and in a 30gg, my shoulders ache all the time! I would definitely find out if its available for you, I would do it if it was offered to me

WeeWelshWoman · 30/09/2021 21:26

Op. I'm a size 16 and a 34 back. At a size 10 I was a 28/30 back. There is a good chance your bra back size is too big, which will put extra stress on your back.

Navian · 30/09/2021 21:28

As someone who is 28G to be this sounds like bliss.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:29

Yeah, I'm 32FF and had a fitting with a proper shop recently.

I'd say I'm a size 10 everywhere else I guess (no ass)

"As someone who is 28G to be this sounds like bliss."

I isn't. It really isn't.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:30

I think the 32 is due to my ribcage being quite big / compensation as my spine goes in at the back there

OP posts:
grey12 · 30/09/2021 21:31

Sorry, but how would it grow back?........

Unless you're planning to put some serious weight on, of course

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:33

I've heard that you can put fat stores down on boobs, especially as you get older, perimenopause, menopause, HRT..

OP posts:
ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:33

And with me, the first thing to expand if I put weight on are indeed my boobs

OP posts:
Bobsyer · 30/09/2021 21:33

You’re not a teenager, so unless you gain a shit load of weight they won’t grow back!

A former colleague of mine had a breast reduction on the nhs. At age 16 (obviously quite a few years ago now). Astonishing.

RampantIvy · 30/09/2021 21:34

A friend of mine had a reduction, and hers grew back. She is very slim, and walks and runs a lot, but she is pretty much the same size she was before her reduction.
ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 21:35

Hmm, thanks all. Maybe I should triple-check my band size. But I do have a weird ribcage..

I had it done, was size 16 with 38hh boobs
Went to a d cup
Then lost loads of weight and was a size 10-12 with 34 d... Perfect
Menopause and have crept up to 34 dd or 36 d
Definitely trying to lose a bit.
I'd say go for it, best thing I have ever spent money on.
