To consider breast reduction?

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 18:27

I have a tall, slim size 10 frame with 34FF breasts, plus a type of scoliosis where the front-back (as opposed to sideways) curves in my spine are in the wrong places.

My osteopath warned me I should never gain weight, but these bitches must weigh a lot.

It causes tiredness, more susceptibility to strain / injury etc.

I'm also fed up of trying to fit into nice clothes and failing. I like the flat-chested look.

I doubt this would be available on the NHS but would worry about spending ££££s for an A cup but they might grow back anyway.

Should I just be grateful? I'm sick of them flapping about.

I would love a breast reduction but would never be able to afford one. My breasts are very different sizes and it is impossible to get a bra that fits properly. My last fitting lasted 2 hours and I still didn’t get one. That was in Melbourne 5 years ago and I don’t live anywhere near a bra fitting shop now.

Other issues I have are:
Bras are expensive
Clothes don’t fit properly
Extra weight
Running is painful

If you want a reduction OP, go for it.

Google POLCE or EBICS (your borough/area) and you'll find the policy on breast reduction.

An example: gps.northcentrallondonccg.nhs.uk/referral-management-islington/evidence-based-interventions-and-clinical-standards-ebics-islington

Breast reduction – Overarching criteria (applicable to both bilateral and
unilateral breast reduction)
NCL CCGs do not routinely fund breast reduction unless all of the following criteria are met
(see also additional criteria for bilateral and unilateral breast reduction below):
 Breast size results in functional symptoms with at least two of the following for at least
one year:
o Pain in the neck
o Pain in the upper back
o Pain in the shoulders
o Painful kyphosis documented by X-rays
o Pain/ discomfort/ ulceration from bra straps cutting intoshoulders
There should be documented evidence of GP visits for these problems.
 Pain symptoms persist despite a six month trial of therapeutic measures including all of
the following:
o Supportive devices (e.g. proper bra/ support bra fitted by a trained bra fitter, wide
bra straps)
o Analgesic/ non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) interventions
o Physical therapy/ exercises/ posturingmanoeuvres
The above should be documented by the clinician.
 In cases of thoracic/ shoulder girdle discomfort, a physiotherapy assessment has been
provided
 Body mass index (BMI) is

You are worried they'll grow back!!! Really??? Hmm

Menopause will affect hormones and possibly body shape regardless of if you have less breast tissue than you have now!

My mum had a reduction and she felt fantastic. Less back pain, no more 1inch straps digging into her shoulders, looked in proportion and could buy the same size top as her bottom half.

Why not see your GP, pointing out the issues. You have nothing to lose, except likely needing to go private.

You are worried they'll grow back!!! Really???

But it does happen. Really!!!
It happened to a friend of mine.

28f here, went up to 28g with a newborn and the first few months of breastfeeding but back down to normal now. I’d love to have a reduction and asked my doctor about it when seeing her for something else and the response was something along the lines of “well aren’t you lucky” 😒 Like you, I’d worry about regrowth. I was flat chested until 16 but have grown from a C to my current silly size over the years without gaining any weight elsewhere. I don’t want to pay thousands to be back in the same (inflatable!) boat.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 22:05

That's interesting Piano, this is all I can find here "not routinely commissioned"

Exactly. Maybe I should try dieting

Mine haven't grown back as such but I did have another DC which has probably affected the shape a bit. I was also able to BF normally.

Spikeyplants · 30/09/2021 22:26

I've never heard of them 'growing back', but I can understand if someone put on a great deal of weight, then the fat left behind would obviously get larger too.

PartyPotato · 30/09/2021 22:51

I would love a breast reduction. But they aren’t giving me health troubles, I just hate them, so it would be cosmetic. Maybe one day if I can afford it….

EL8888 · 30/09/2021 22:55

I vote go for it, life is too short. I’m a 34DD but increasingly leaning towards a 34E and it’s all a bit much. Unlike you though, l could do with losing a bit of weight

They can grow back. It’s uncommon but can happen

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 22:59

Thanks, bloody things

@ThreeLittleDots

I'm 41, no more babies for me Grin

I'm worried that a C cup could easily grow back to my size though.

I just want to cut them off! But that sounds mad...

If the CCG don't commission breast reduction I have no choice but to go private. You can't approach other geographic areas, can you?

I had mine reduced from FF to a B cup. I insisted I wanted as small as possible in both the consultation and on the morning of the op. Surgeon was talking about a C or D for proportion. Nope, I wanted small and that's what I got. I bloody love them!!

Amazing! That's encouraging to hear, thanks

looks like your CCG doesn't fund it at all then, if that's where you live.

luckylady22 · 07/10/2021 13:25

Hi I am wanting to get a breast reduction but looking to go to Turkey to have it done due to cost and also the level of care & service you get at private hospitals there
I am making enquiries just now and trying to find a good surgeon and wondered if anyone else had thought of abroad and if you have had it done abroad where did you go ?

I have read they can grow back too, however I put on about 15kg over lockdown - my boobs did not grow back. I love wearing pretty & flimsy bras, clothes that show my shoulders & not my bra straps. Although the grooves in my shoulders will never go. And I realised recently that men talk to my face now!

I do an agency shift doing plastics one day a week and I’ve learnt how lucky I am to be flat chested. I’ve met women who cannot run because of their breasts, cannot lie on their backs, have bruises from their bra or have ongoing back pain. The things women endure and don’t talk about make me feel incredibly sad. If you can afford it please do it (I also work with a surgeon who I would recommend so if you want to pm do).
