To ask for ideas for party bags for 8 year olds

Barnybrown · 29/09/2021 21:14

It is my son’s 8th birthday in November and we can (hopefully) have a party this year. I want to do really fun party bags - but am at a loss for ideas for what to put in them and would really welcome ideas !

You can get Pre filled ones on eBay for£2.

They have box, bubbles, crayons, colouring book, puzzle and a little toy.

I don't have an 8yo though so might be too childish.

Filled pencil cases - you can usually get pencil cases in the pound shop and then bulk buy stationary to fill them up - add in a few wrapped sweets.

I did that for DS's 8th and was amazed how popular they turned out to be.

Saved the planet and don’t bother. Give them a cupcake

LtDansLegs · 29/09/2021 21:21

Do they collect the football stickers if they're into football at all? That could work well! A poppit fidget thing? (See those everywhere now and they're fairly cheap!) Some bubbles is always a winner.

If you go onto Etsy you can get little sweetie cones / hot chocolate cones in various colours / flavours for smaller orders which I've ordered before and went down a treat!

Sweets and a book from a box set

Beach11 · 29/09/2021 21:23

Themed stationary set

AdaColeman · 29/09/2021 21:27

Sweets, a book, some pencils, cake.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/09/2021 21:27

Sweetie cones are easy to make and are a good alternative.

Other things that have gone down well with my two are: uv Spy pens, Harry potter type quill pens, mini rubber chickens you can catapult at each other, seeds, tiny notebooks, keyring with each kids name on (I made these and they were easy and cheap).

foxgoosefinch · 29/09/2021 21:34

Kids do like sweet cones. Is there a theme to the party? I find as they get older that one large item costing a couple of pounds is better than the party bags full of lots of small things that little kids love.

Punch balloons? Glo-sticks (slightly more robust ones than the really cheapo ones)? Cheap football? Fidget toy/popit? (Someone posted a multipack of fidget toys on the Christmas bargain thread which could be split up; or check Amazon.)

For my 6 year old I did a pack of playing cards, bag of haribo, mini chupa chup lolly and a mini wooden spinning top.

Then a slice of cake in a proper cake box and grease proof paper because cake wrapped in napkins give me the shivers.

kitkatsky · 29/09/2021 21:42

I always used to get sweet cones off eBay and a pack of books from the book people at this age

purpleme12 · 29/09/2021 21:45

Joining as I'm after ideas for this too

Imcatmum · 29/09/2021 21:52

I'm famous for my party bags! 8 yr old boy....

  • popping candy sachets
  • box of snaps
  • yo-yos that light up
  • slime or couple of tubs of air dry clay
  • full-size pack of markers (Amazon for £1.60 sometimes!)
  • sweet cone
  • small bag of kinetic sand (Tesco do them)
  • squishy jelly animals
Etc (not all those things obviously, depends on budget).

I once did white mugs (cheap in bulk), hot chocolate sachets, flumps, and a few ceramic pens to decorate your own mug.

Inflatable musical instruments (you can get a pack with several in so it's not too expensive), soap with Lego in from soapsforlittlesuds.co.uk/, a book (buy packs from the Book People so they are cheap)

PooWillyNameChange · 29/09/2021 22:43

Hate receiving party bags if I'm honest. Usually plastic tat that ends up cluttering the house up but the wee ones refuse to let me chuck.

My favourite ones are when we are just given a book and a slice of cake! Or a seed bomb or something. Just preferably something that won't end up in landfill in a few weeks Sad

Mydogdoesntlisten · 29/09/2021 22:45

I second books from a box set too. The Book People were absolutely brilliant when ds was small. Party Pieces also brilliant. Hope you have a good party.

Schmoana · 29/09/2021 22:49

Hate plastic tat. Go eco and get some big bags of sharing chocolate they can choose their favourite.

converseandjeans · 29/09/2021 22:52
  • bouncy balls (you can buy huge packs on Ebay)
  • sweetie cone
  • drinks bottle with sweets inside if they're sporty
  • fun snaps/bangers (you throw them on the floor & they make a noise)
  • tube of smarties/box of maltesers etc.
  • tub of slime
LittleGwyneth · 29/09/2021 22:55

Jam jar with some seeds, sticks for writing the flower name and a little bag of soil, paint their names on them if you've got time.

ChangingStates · 29/09/2021 22:57

For my dds bday at around that age I went to Flying Tiger and got some of their bits like slime, bouncy balls, small crafts, colour stampers etc, £1-3 each- I put them in a box and at hometime the kids picked one thing to take with them from the box- they really loved it and I felt like less tat that just gets thrown. I got more things than guests so no one was left without a choice, and used left overs for stocking fillers or rewards later in the year.

Flyingantday · 29/09/2021 23:00

Lots of Eco/plastic free ideas on Etsy.
Fruit Yo-yos/bear paws slightly better than sweets I think.

TeeNoG · 29/09/2021 23:00

Joining for ideas as my soon to be 7 year old has a party soon. Very keen to hear more eco friendly ideas Smile

maddening · 29/09/2021 23:00

I got a job lot of lego figure keyrings, nice little gift and less chuck away tat.

RainbowMum11 · 29/09/2021 23:00

Packet of seeds, little compostable pots they can decorate maybe and then plant & grow
