Boris Johnson the trivial man

KS: “I don’t think Boris Johnson is a bad man, I think he’s a trivial man. I think he’s a showman with nothing left to show. I think he’s a trickster & he’s performed his one trick. Once he said ‘Get Brexit Done’ his plan ran out. He has no plan’

@StoneofDestiny

Boris Johnson was tolerated 'acting like a buffoon' and got elected as PM. Then, no surprise to many of us, turns out he wasn't acting at all. He is a buffoon and we have a buffoon as PM.

He is a lying, racist thug who doesn't care a stuff about anybody apart from getting to be PM. He dare not be interviewed on TV by quality journalists as he has no genuine principled and heartfelt plan for the country, just 'slogans' and 'sound bites' as fodder to the masses.

The masses obviously love him since they voted for him and his party.
rocklamp · 29/09/2021 19:39

I'm not voting Green. They don't know what a woman is and can't be trusted to uphold women's rights. None of them can.

The masses in England perhaps. Tres scary.

Poetrypatty · 29/09/2021 22:40

I thought Starmer's speech was good. And he did set out some policies

  • tougher sentences on domestic abuse & stalking
  • mental health treatment within 4 weeks, and better MH care for children with schools having designated MH care
  • all children to get the chance to play a musical instrument and do team sports

I thought these were good. There was other stuff but I have forgotten.

longwayoff · 29/09/2021 22:52

I heard Starmer say 'my father was a toolmaker'. I'm sure he didn't say 'and so was Boris's father' but I thought he did say that and it made me snicker.

Poetrypatty · 29/09/2021 22:54

He did say something like that longwayoff - like, 'my father was a toolmaker and in a way you could say Boris Johnson's father was too.' That was my favourite bit of the speech Grin

LobsterNapkin · 29/09/2021 22:58

I'd agree that BJ is trivial, and I don't think KS is. But he's not able to control his party and seems weak in terms of his job.

I'd also say that he's a liar as well, "it shouldn't be said" my arse. People who argue for the greater good or an ideology can be more dangerous than people who lie for pragmatic reasons.

Mamamia7962 · 29/09/2021 23:05

Rocklamp - Keir Starmer doesn't know what a woman is either.

julieca · 29/09/2021 23:11

Boris Johnson is immoral, I agree a trivial man, a class joker, and a coward. He should be the guy who hangs down the local boozer every day, trying to chat up women far too young for him, making jokes that no one but his mates finds funny, and generally being a boorish lazy man - but at least away from any power.

Tellmesomethinggirl · 29/09/2021 23:14

I listened to the speech and I thought Keir Starmer did an ok job.

I disagree with everyone on here who says we need someone with more charisma, who creates an impression. That's the last thing we need frankly!

The UK needs someone who is a boring technocrat for a while, who plans properly for the future, and makes decisions based on the facts and not based on how things will appear in the papers or on social media.

willstarttomorrow · 29/09/2021 23:25

I listened to KS speech and I thought he came accross very well. I was listening to the radio before hand and the contributor said that people would be disappointed because it has been so hyped and he 'does not have the charisma of Tony Blair'.
Now I am a Labour supporter, despite the Corbyn, and I do not remember Tony Blair as being particularly charismatic. Maybe in comparison to past candidates and it maybe with hindsight considering how it all went wrong.
Anyhow- whilst the electorate votes for leaders based on 'personality' as if it is the x factor then we will remain doomed. I have rated KS from his time in the CPS, he is fair and principled and I think if he could be a good PM. However, it will not happen if he cannot manage the shit show that is labour in order to make the party electable. For that I blame Corbyn- the far left hecklers need to head out and start their own extremist party.

Pheasantlysurprised · 29/09/2021 23:55

im non partisan and has always believed that a government consisting of an equal representation of all parties would rule. That way everyone is represented, and we can still have local and general elections, to refine the status quo.

However, I never have and never could vote tory. Concerning labour I am non the fence, not having much of a choice between the two I am utterly fucking paralysed.

starter has utterly lost me with his recent comments regarding cervixes. I just can't anymore. Boris and the tories were a shitshow I knew, but Labour have left me. reeling.

Pheasantlysurprised · 29/09/2021 23:56

apologies for spell correct - I mean starmer, not starter.

julieca · 29/09/2021 23:57

I agree Tony Blair was not charismatic. He did have an image makeover, which Starmer needs. So looking at hair, clothes, gestures, etc.

sst1234 · 30/09/2021 00:17

It doesn’t matter what Boris Johnson is, or isn’t. It doesn’t matter because it doesn’t matter to the Tories. Labour are too stupid to realize that Tories don’t get into the leadership personality cult like they do. Tories will get rid of Johnson and install someone else when he has served his purpose. Labour, on the other hand will still be split between chanting ‘oh Jeremy Corbyn’ or trying to sell the unsellable Starmer.

I was WFH today and had 5 live on and had no intention of listening to KS today, mainly because I had no desire to listen to the party I ideologically support implode again.

However KS was a pleasure to listen to in my opinion. Looking at the Guardian btl comments there was loads of critism that he was 'wooden'.
I know that the UK has increasingly voted based on personality for a good few years now, and maybe KS seems an ineffectual.

So just out of interest, how much importance do you place on politician's careers before politics? I already rated KS because of his time as QC and work within the CPS. Doreen Lawrence continues to support his work which I think speaks volumes.

TrishM80 · 30/09/2021 07:15

Johnson is often called a conman but I don't think the term is accurate. A conman is someone who pretends to be someone or something that they're not in order to deceive someone who doesn't know any better. With Johnson, everyone already KNEW he was a lying, lazy, incompetent fool, he's never even attempted to hide that fact, and yet they still thought, "of yeah, this guy would make a good Prime Minister".

chaosrabbitland · 30/09/2021 07:19

@SusieBob

He's right, but the problem remains that labour are doing a shit job as the opposition, so at the moment we have the choice between the cunts on one side of the chamber and the useless wankers on the other.
yes its this , such a bleak picture it is as well
TheReluctantPhoenix · 30/09/2021 07:26

Labour need a plan and they need to communicate it honestly to people. This is where we intend to go and this is how we intend to get there.

BJ is indeed ‘light’ and, if you scratch the surface, has minimal intellectual depth. However, he is a good communicator and exudes confidence, which is quite contagious.

It is hard to be a traditional opposition and oppose, as it is like pushing on jelly. So, if labour want to win, they need to be a bit old fashioned and actually have meaningful policies and principles.

Theworldisfullofgs · 30/09/2021 07:28

Johnson is trivial but unfortunately England seems to like trivial - see love Island.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 30/09/2021 07:37

The sports and musical instrument stuff is rubbish and will lead to a situation like sports premium, where a school can’t afford teachers but has £20k to spend on football.

Franklin12 · 30/09/2021 09:09

This thread shows that Labour supporters are still dissing the people who voted for the Conservatives, dont know why people voted for them, conned, likes a showman etc.

ITS BECAUSE LABOUR ARE WORSE! WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO ACCCEPT THAT THEY ARE A HORRIBLE MESS

MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2021 09:15

@pontypridd

I’m reading these posts with interest.

Do you think a new Labour Party needs to be formed? Perhaps two brand newly named parties.

Something significantly different needs to happen soon, surely.

Split do you mean?

Neither would get the numbers.

I’m interested in Labour policies but find some lacking which doesn’t help.

KS is hard to listen to sometimes - not his fault really but that doesn’t help either. He could do better though if he had a better party and policies.

SorryAuntLydia · 30/09/2021 09:26

KS: “I don’t think Boris Johnson is a bad man, I think he’s a trivial man. I think he’s a showman with nothing left to show. I think he’s a trickster & he’s performed his one trick. Once he said ‘Get Brexit Done’ his plan ran out. He has no plan’
So my choices are a trivial clown or the witch finder general and his goon squad?

Yeah it’s a good sound bite… no I won’t vote for his disgusting denial of women’s rights.
