Tooth fairy no cash...

Aaarrghhh I've got 30p or £10 and I've got a child who's 10 and so doesn't really believe but makes pointed comments, 'I wonder if the tooth fairy would come since we've moved house' and he twice didn't tell me and put his tooth under his pillow and I'd overheard him saying to his siblings that he'd get no money as the tooth fairy wasn't real- he did and was wowed...

Anyway- what to do tonight please?!! GrinHmm

I’ve used the weather as an excuse sometimes when I’ve forgotten. They can’t fly in the rain as their wings get too wet.

DdraigGoch · 28/09/2021 23:18

@ohnotanotherusername

Tooth fairy is in isolation, should be back in 10 days.

We are on day 6 of that excuse here.

Or "stuck in Customs"
Driftingblue · 28/09/2021 23:19

He likely knows. I hate need up making a little speech about how my dd would continue to get presents and tooth fairy money as long as she was still living at home, even if she stopped believing, and even if she was a young adult, because that is just how it works. She immediately fessed up and we switched to bank transfers. So much easier.

Longdistance · 28/09/2021 23:22

Tooth fairy has run out of fuel?

mynamechangemyrules · 28/09/2021 23:24

Wish I'd taken a pic- did my customary swirly writing and told him this was goodbye and he'd done a great job of taking care of his teeth and his grown up(s) would show him they were happy with his teeth by topping up his Rooster money £4 which is 20p bonus for all those teeth 😂
Aaaah end of an era

Is his room tidy? I've twice used the excuse of daughter's room being a fairy health hazard when I've plain forgot.

DD is 13, she knows it's not real but she still strings it out for fun.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 28/09/2021 23:32

I’d go with 30p and a note to say that it wasn’t as clean as she’d like.
But I’m mean and I suspect slightly shoddy brushwork archers.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 28/09/2021 23:33

*Around here, not archers

TrickorTreacle · 29/09/2021 01:40

@XenoBitch

I only ever got 20p, but that was in the 80s!
90s here and we got 30p per tooth.

That would be approx. £1 in today's money.

£10 smacks of entitlement!

fourminutestosavetheworld · 29/09/2021 01:46

I'd leave an angry note saying she won't be leaving anything from now on as it's common knowledge that he's started to have doubts. Embellish with some potential promised revenge when he least expects it. Enjoy never sleeping again, op's ds.

WinnieTheWee · 29/09/2021 02:25

Fuel shortage of course! Hmm How does he think they get around to pick up so many teeth in one night!

Taiyo · 29/09/2021 03:00

@Hankunamatata

The tooth fairy is super forgetful on our house and can go up to 3 days before collecting the teeth Blush
Mine too!!

I just say oh that's weird, maybe they'll come tomorrow.

choli · 29/09/2021 03:29

He's 10 and doesn't believe anyway, just stop the bullshit.

Taiyo · 29/09/2021 05:45

I have to admit I would love to see a study on the differences between kids raised by parents who spend ages writing a letter on special paper in teeny tiny writing and those raised by parents who are like yeah, the fairy probably run out of petrol or something, check tomorrow.

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 29/09/2021 15:01

To be fair, it doesn’t take long to write a letter, even a teeny tiny one.
I do think that when you start taking part in these superstitions you make a commitment to your kids and they notice when you break it, so for that reason I’d make the effort.

Microwaveableteapot · 29/09/2021 16:35

Oh Lord, the sheer PANIC when the very first time I had a nephew stay overnight at mine he managed to yank a tooth out! (Little sod probably thought he'd get more off his aunt Grin) Think I'd read on MN at some point people left a fiver these days. Messaged my sister and was very relieved to find the going rate was still only 50p round their way. Even managed to find some glitter to chuck on the 50p I left!

mynamechangemyrules · 29/09/2021 22:09

Ooh ouch Choli and Taiyo!

Well it was returned to me this morning with him saying 'I know it was you and you can put it back in your bag' and we had a bit of a moment tbh.

I think he's survived being horrifically pandered to with little notes by his sole carer after moving thousands of miles from his home culture after DV. Grin
