To buy sertraline online?

I'm struggling terribly with my anxiety at the moment. I've had bad anxiety since primary school age, but during the past couple of years it's been getting worse and worse, to the point where my husband is begging me to seek help.

I'm desperate to try medication as I can barely function anymore - even going to the supermarket or getting on the bus on my own feels overwhelming.

I finally plucked up the courage to ring my GP for a phone appointment but both times I called I've been told there were none available and to ring back.

Is there anywhere you can buy sertraline safely online without having to see a GP?

I'm really at my wit's end and need something to help.

I'd look into if your practice does eConsults first. I doubt you could buy genuine drugs without a prescription.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:22

This morning I had what felt like a mild panic attack - it's like I have a near constant stream of anxiety running through me. I can't live like this anymore, I need something to help.

If you can afford it you can get a private GP appointment, you can do it remotely. Typically you can get one at much shorter notice since it's a private business and they aren't subject to all the shortages and overcrowding of NHS practices. They are able to issue private prescriptions, if appropriate, but may want to refer you to a specialist first.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:24

My GP doesn't do e-consults. Is there any way of accessing another doctor online and getting a prescription through them? Or is my GP literally the only option?

Private GP costs about £50 which I just can't afford unfortunately.

Try the Livi app. Or there are some other apps around as well where you can do a video call with a GP

mynameiscalypso · 28/09/2021 14:28

You might be able to get a prescription from a private GP (other online or in person) but you'd had to see them several times. I would expect them to only give a short script and then have a follow up appointment because the first few weeks of taking a drug like a SSRI can be the most risky as things often get worse before they get better.

You need to see a GP, keep at it with your NHS one or to get a face to face appointment after a telephone consultation, or as suggested book a private GP appointment, Google them in your local area. If you start on tablets of any kind you need your previous medical history info and monitoring, its not a one off appointment, you will keep going back. In the meantime what support are you getting, you can self refer for CBT where I live, you fill in a form online or collect one from your GP practice. You absolutely can't just buy drugs online and start taking them. There's a free telephone support line for mental health in our county, NHS, Google this too.

Push doctor app
Lloyds pharmacy do online apps
Do you have gp access through work or a health insurance policy?

EmmalineC · 28/09/2021 14:36

Don't buy drugs online, they may not be real. They are also likely to be very expensive. Why have you decided on Sertraline? Have you had it before?
Contact your GP surgery again and ask for a telephone consultation.

Saoirse82 · 28/09/2021 14:37

Yes, you can buy them online from a reputable pharmacy. If you click on the green cross it'll let you know that the pharmacy is operating legally. I've had to do it before for anti biotics and pain killers during covid. It will cost you around £35 though as it they still have to be prescribed by a GP who will want to know your medical history.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:39

I've done a lot of research and sertraline seems like it would be the right fit for me.

I didn't realize I'd need to keep going back to the GP though - do you mean once a month? Once every six months?

I really don't want a face to face appointment if it's possible to avoid this.

Try phoning your surgery back and ask for an extended hours appointment. A lot of GP receptions are not signposting people to them. These are shared extended hours appointments shared across groups of surgeries.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:41

If I order through Lloyds, will my GP want to speak to me before signing the prescription or will they simply sign it off?

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 14:43

Is your GP not doing same day appointments if it's urgent? You really should speak to a GP rather than just choose an antidepressant. Even if they decide Sertraline is the answer.

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 14:44

I didn't realize I'd need to keep going back to the GP though - do you mean once a month? Once every six months? mine wanted me back in after 2 weeks then a phone call after a month and then everytime I order a new prescription I just write a little note in the note bit when I order it.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:44

@GloomAndDoom I think they do offer same day if it's urgent, so I suppose they didn't consider this to be urgent.

L0stinCyberspace · 28/09/2021 14:44

Sertraline is not the easiest drug to start and it could be a month of actually feeling worse, before you feel better.
GPs sometimes give valium short term to help you over the first month on Sertraline. GP support is essential for you at the moment- do not start taking it without proper clinical guidance and help.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:45

@L0stinCyberspace Yes, I've read about that. One thing that does worry me is that I'm not sure I can handle feeling even worse - I feel so low already.

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 14:45

I'm desperate to try medication as I can barely function anymore - even going to the supermarket or getting on the bus on my own feels overwhelming. I think this would count as an urgent appointment. Could you ask your husband to phone first thing if you get phone anxiety and he could explain and then you could confirm you want the appointment?

shauabs · 28/09/2021 14:48

You may be able to self refer for help where you are. I have used this and they were able to help with counselling and medication.

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:49

I actually got referred to IAPT already through my health visitor and am on the list for CBT, but the waiting time for an appointment is 16 weeks.

Prettybubblesintheair · 28/09/2021 14:49

I’m sorry but you need to see your gp. They can’t just prescribe a drug because you think it’d be a good fit. They need to see you to discuss how you’re feeling and to talk through the pros and cons of medication. Get someone to phone and make a gp appointment for you then take someone with you. If you don’t think you’ll be able to speak write it all down first. Please do not even attempt to buy it illegally. I spoke to a lovely woman on here once who started buying prescription drugs from a neighbour and before long she was hooked and trying all sorts of things. Taking medication is a serious thing that should only be done under careful advice and observation from a medical professional who knows you.

Good luck op, I hope you get something sorted and feel better soon Flowers

wouldbe73 · 28/09/2021 14:50

Does anyone know whether (if I do manage to get an appointment) they will make me go into the surgery or if I can do it over the phone? I really don't want face to face if it's at all possible to avoid.

OP posts:
L0stinCyberspace · 28/09/2021 14:51

@wouldbe73 yes this is why you really need to see a GP. I started Sertraline last year in an extremely anxious state. The first 4 weeks, even with valium, were very tough.
