To send my dd to nursery tomorrow with green snotty nose?

So I'm in debate with my mom about this. My dd is 3 at the local school nursery. She started 2 weeks ago and already has caught a cold. She was off all last week with it. She's got some additional needs and she does seem to struggle with illnesses it takes her ages to recover from them.

She's pretty recovered now but still has green snot coming from her nose otherwise she's alright in herself. My
Mum thinks she should stay off till she's completely clear of every sign of anything. I'd like her back in tomorrow.
The main reason I want her in is she didn't see any other children during the pandemic really except the odd breif interaction at the playground. She loves it and it seems a shame to miss it now she just has a bit of a snotty nose.
AIBU to send her in tomorrow?

Yanbu. Green snot rockets are normal at nursery.

WimpoleHat · 26/09/2021 20:31

Normally? It’s fine and it’s just a cold. Part of life and kids get them all the time. At the moment? People are hyper sensitive about Covid going round and it isn’t really fair to send her without taking her for a PCR test.

SylvanasWindrunner · 26/09/2021 20:32

I think at least 50% of the kids at DD's nursery are snotty at any one time! I wouldn't keep off for just a snotty nose.

ifoundthebread · 26/09/2021 20:32

If I kept my son from nursery every time he had a snotty nose, he would never be there. Green candle sticks are a common sign at nursery.

Sirzy · 26/09/2021 20:33

Assuming she has had a pcr test then if well enough send her in

MsChatterbox · 26/09/2021 20:34

Definitely send her or she will be off every other week

YoBeaches · 26/09/2021 20:35

If snotty nose was a reason to keep them off, nurseries would be out of business.

She doesn't have covid symptoms, so send her in. And be prepared for this to be the case for the next 6 months at least.

Mrscutesmummy · 26/09/2021 20:38

Thanks for the replies everyone I'm glad some people agree with me. My mum was making me feel very neglectful/ heartless. I agree @ifoundthebread if I wait for the snot to be gone she'll never be in!!

I work in a Pre school, we’re totally used to a green snot bomb!

GettingItOutThere · 26/09/2021 20:49

send in!

kids are always snotty its a fact, however if joined with a temp/bad cough etc obvs covid test but i would never send in with a temp even pre covid

emwithme · 26/09/2021 21:28

DD has been in nursery since August 2021.

The snot started in September 2021.

We had a glorious three week period this August without a tissue in sight - and then it's back as bad as ever. I'm wondering who was off for that three weeks because they're obviously Typhoid Mary Grin

Mistressofnone · 26/09/2021 21:32

Green and thick means the cold is on its way out! They have tissue dispensers all around the nursery for running noses. No respite from colds at that age sadly.. the big question is, how many will you manage to fight off yourself? Smile

LizzieBet14 · 26/09/2021 21:35

I'd say as long as she's eating, sleeping and playing ok then she'll be fine to go in.

Lostmarbles2021 · 26/09/2021 21:38

If negative PCR then yes.

Mrscutesmummy · 26/09/2021 21:46

There are people mentioning a PCR test. To book one you need a temp/ cough/ loss of taste or smell and she has none of these. A slight temp in the first days of the cold but no coughing really and as far as I can tell her taste/ smell is normal (obvs hard to be completely sure with that one) so I don't think I could get one unless I paid for it could I?

If she’s had a temperature, then she’s had one of symptoms. You can book one online. One of the girls in my DD’s class has Covid, which they thought was just a cold at first - so we’ve been advised to take a PCR test if they have a temperature.

WimpoleHat · 26/09/2021 21:49

(It’s being cautious….and also gives you the ability to tell nursery that she’s had a negative test if anyone queries her being there when she’s obviously mildly unwell. Probably helpful for everyone in the current circumstances.)

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 26/09/2021 21:51

It's just a cold.

Mrscutesmummy · 26/09/2021 21:54

I just went on the PCR booking website and answered the questions and it said I'm not eligible for a test. The nursery haven't asked me to do one. Do I check if they want me to before bringing gets back in? I must admit that feels over cautious to me but I am interested in others thoughts.

Re: the PCR test, wouldn’t it be too late to test now? I thought it needed to be done within a certain number of days from the onset of symptoms (?5).
OP’s child had symptoms all of last week, so it may be too late (sorry if I’ve misread).

Mrscutesmummy · 26/09/2021 21:55

When I say I'm not eligible I meant dd isn't eligible

Just snot and feeling well. I'd send them in

whatswithtodaytoday · 26/09/2021 22:00

You can lie - who's going to check? She could easily have had a fever earlier. Not much point getting a test now, but it depends how strict your nursery is. She'd need to isolate until you get the result anyway.

WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy · 26/09/2021 22:03

YANBU. Nursery age children are always snotty, if she’s well enough and no temp/cough then send her in.

Gladioli23 · 26/09/2021 22:07

Well if she has a temperature when the cold started she should have had one then - so if you're answering the questions as if she's never had a temperature it's unsurprising it won't let you have a test. As it is she's had covid symptoms (a temperature) and you didn't get her tested within 5 days of them starting (unless it still is?) - so surely she should be isolating for the remainder of her ten days?
