Green hair!

Aibu in being totally annoyed with myself.

I successfully bleached my hair and dyed it - after multiple warnings from Mumsnet not to do it. I was smug

I was washing my hair today and my mum had left some of her blue shampoo on the side - I used it quickly like a damn fool and now I'm green! Definitely green tinges.

I'm tempted to give up with all this malarkey. I have a really important week at work next week - think multiple meeting important. What shall I do? Help me vipers?

Strawberry blonde? Golden blonde? Will that work? Had such a good thing going with my purple shampoo too! All shall I sod it all of and go auburn.

After this im paying someone to do it I promise!

It looks ok in the photo

QueenBee52 · 26/09/2021 01:24

oh cripes yes... your hair will be super absorbent ..

try Baking Soda with a little water.. make a paste texture .. put this on your hair.. and leave it for about ten minutes ...

see if it removes it... if not try again..

this will dry your hair terribly.. so make sure you deeply condition after for a fee days

Slothkin · 26/09/2021 01:25

Can you afford a salon cut and colour? I’ll be honest when my hair was like that I had to cut it right back. This is going to me painful to hear but you’ll probably need to go brunette for a while.

Slothkin · 26/09/2021 01:28

Although mine was swimming green so maybe easier to deal with if it’s just the once!

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 01:28

I don't have time really it needs sorting before work on Monday. I am thinking brunette too tbh.

You don't think a strawberry blonde might do it?

I seem to remember being told that tomato ketchup takes the green tinge out of hair. Too much hlorine in swimming pools used to do this to bleached hair. Worth a try?

Goldenhedgehogs · 26/09/2021 01:34

Loads of people suggest head and shoulders original for dtripping unwanted colour out. Might be a good try as not to drastic before hitting the hair dye option

honeyytoast · 26/09/2021 01:44

Try a warm toner with red/orange tones, like the Superdrug strawberry blonde one or similar. Don’t quote me lol but I’m pretty sure it should work. Colour wheel and all that

figtrees · 26/09/2021 01:47

This happened to me about 2 weeks ago! I tried every remedy mentioned online. Lemons. Vitamin c crushed up. Washing repeatedly with specific shampoos. They didn't work. Ketchup left on for about 2 hours which was gross and perhaps maybe made it a less green but I had to leave it on for ages and even after washing I swear I could still smell it. In the end I had some powdered natural henna laying about so I mixed a little with shampoo and washed it with that, then repeated til it was an acceptable shade. I didn't leave it on for ages as I just wanted to neutralise some of the green not end up a redhead. So I built up the colour wash by wash. I think your best option is to dye over it to be honest, I'd say choose a warm colour and gentle dye.

Mummyof3Me2021 · 26/09/2021 01:48

Red shampoo, the ones for red hair?

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 01:59

I don't know but I can't sleep - not because I'm shallow or anything lol.

Am tempted to just do this

@mummyof3me2021 my partner is ginger and I tried that as well when I made mine green and it doesn't actually add ant pigment unfortunately.

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 02:03

Do you guys like this colour? It's really growing on me

OP posts:
QueenBee52 · 26/09/2021 02:09

its a beautiful colour yes ...

can you get it in a Semi Permanent option.. so it conditions the hair shaft by coating it instead of opening the hair shaft and potentially damaging the current condition any more...

its really a lovely colour 🥰

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 02:13

I'll have a look tomorrow in boots and see what I can get :)

groovergirl · 26/09/2021 02:18

That box colour is very pretty. Be aware, tho, that Preference is permanent, so you'd better really like it. It might turn out darker than in the pic, as your hair will be quite porous.

QueenBee52 · 26/09/2021 02:22

yes this is true...

look for a lighter option of the same family of colour...

🌸

MidnightCircus · 26/09/2021 03:45

Whatever you do to your needs to have red on it to counteract the green. So, a warm beige toner for example, or a red based brown if you want to go brunette instead! Just bear in mind your hair will be porous and so will turn out darker than on the box. Good luck :)

Luckymummytoone · 26/09/2021 06:18

Get some ‘bleach london’ pink shampoo (if you didn’t want to dye) it says on the bottle to get rid of unwanted green tones. It tooo mine out straight away :) xx

AngelOfTheSilence · 26/09/2021 06:23

As the pp says.
Bleach London do a few different pink shampoos and dyes.
If you don’t want any pink to show I’d recommend getting the rose dye and mixing it with some conditioner and using it as a mask.
Do a test strand first to make sure it doesn’t dye your hair pink though.

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 08:43

Thanks so much everyone!

I actually went blonde because I wanted to do different pastel colours in my hair but then I got a new job and it wouldn't be professional, so I am a bit fed up with it anyway.

Wish me luck everyone

A hairdresser friend of mine suggested tomato ketchup when I self dyed my hair and it went green. It works! Angry (tomato not anger!)

MrsSkeffington · 26/09/2021 17:04

Ladies I fixed it - I can't believe it worked out.

They didn't have that colour so I instead got a rose gold and left it on for only twenty minutes - couple of pink bits but it's definitely so much better now!

Thanks for all your help.
