Tropic flaunting their successes

Robin60 · 23/09/2021 18:31

A really lovely lady in my village is an ambassador for Tropic, not only does she post her hints, tips and beauty advice on social media many times a day but she’s constantly displaying the freebies she gets from Tropic. These can be anything from a mug (!), mini fridge, away days,champagne, weekend aways, the list is endless. Clearly these are funded by her clients. The latest has got my blood boiling - next year the ambassadors are being taken to Shanghai and Singapore on an all expenses trip. I feel this is particularly tactless as the company strapline is ;

CREATING A HEALTHIER, GREENER, MORE EMPOWERED WORLD

If they are genuinely concerned about having a greener world why fly so many people half way across the world on a pointless freebie? As Tropic supports third world schools the money would be better utilised in investing more money and resources there.

@Babochan88

Why do the successes of others bother you to this extent?
Because they aren't the "successes" the tropic sellers make it out to be?
JustLyra · 26/09/2021 13:37

It's funny how these spectacular trips away are always "next year" or "soon".

I've known a lot of people get hooked into MLM's and have trips planned "soon" yet I've never known anyone actually go further than Butlins for the weekend - and that cost them a fucking fortune in the end!

SecretKeeper1 · 26/09/2021 13:48

My cousin has done pretty well out of Tropic, the best “freebie” she got was an all expenses paid holiday in Mauritius and there have been other mini breaks for awards etc. Very nice. However, it has consumed her and it’s literally all she does and all she talks about. We had serious words when her kid told my kid that any non-Tropic lip balm causes cancer.

I don’t begrudge anyone’s success. The blatant bragging is tasteless and crass. If you read my post I was talking about the ethics of Tropic, if they are sincere in being Greener, cleaner etc why on earth fly the ambassadors (ridiculous title) halfway across the world for a jolly? It’s a pointless exercise and the money spent/wasted could be better spent on other worthwhile causes. Despite what others have said on this thread I know she is going in 2023 and it is all expenses paid!

Myfilterisbroken · 29/09/2021 14:08

Watch the LulaRich show on Prime.
Unfortunately I don’t have Prime, but I’m assuming that Tropic aware not shown on a positive light?

It's all fake.
Everything shes posting is a lie.
And any trips she goes on, she is having to pay for out of her pocket

Noogar · 29/09/2021 20:21

StormyTeacups · 29/09/2021 20:35

I have a friend who has been on a few of these Tropic trips. On one she claimed Tropic paid for her husband to fly out to join her for an extended trip at the end as a special treat.

I call utter bollocks, as the numbers just can't stack up.

Equally, apparently selling face wash has paid for numerous other holidays, and now private school.

How these people have the sheer brass bollocks to post this on social media in front of all the people who know them I don't know.

BadLad · 29/09/2021 22:20

Here's a really interesting blog about MLM and especially the need to fake posts about your sales, income and perks. It's Younique, not Tropics, but the principle is the same.

Why do I know??? Because Tropic encourage their employees to post on a very very regular basis, that is several times a day every day. I knew this person prior to their involvement with Tropic and we got on really well. In her posts she keeps ‘banging’ on about Tropic supporting third world countries and also about their ‘green’ credentials.

Just watched a fb friend opening a box of tropic, the amount of packaging was mind blowing!

SpamIAm · 30/09/2021 12:56

You can only really make money from an MLM if you're higher up the pyramid. Posting about how much you earn and all the 'freebies' is essential to attracting more ambassadors to work below you so you can increase your income.

Saoirse82 · 30/09/2021 16:10

@Robin60

I would love to hear from a current and/or former employee of Tropic and find out the ‘truth’.
I joined tropic, not to sell but to get the 25% off as I loved their products, I also had to pay £200 to get the starter kit but I was delighted to be getting it at such a price. There wasn't huge pressure to recruit, at the start I would get a lot of BS quote type things to put on social media from my 'manager', be your own boss all that kinda rubbish but I never posted anything, no bloody way! I was left alone after a few months when it became clear I wasn't going to make them any money. I was asked about building a team once or twice but I do have to say there was never any real pressure to do this but I still got all the gimmicky sales pitches about how it could make me lots of money, great opportunity 🙄. I still love tropic products though and I think as MLMs go they are the slightly more ethical (if there is such a thing)
AuntieStella · 30/09/2021 19:20

That's a very expensive starter kit!

If people want to give money to support schools in developing countries, there are many options that mean all of your expenditure reaches the charity or grassroots organisation.

The only MLM I find tolerable is Avon, because they are upfront about what you make from just selling (about £150-200 profit per campaign - up to 26 campaigns a year, the starter up cost is £10, and they don't have the weird and cultish aspects. Avon ladies runs in tandem with direct online sales, and it's pretty open about what the score is. And the products are cheap and good, so good VFM. But it's still an MLM

Well they went to South Africa. I've always wanted to go on Safari too. It's so dear though.

I think it was worth £500 and at that time I was buying a lot of their stuff and it was costing a fair bit anyway and I wanted to try all their serums etc. I noticed a big difference in my skin after a few uses but when I got pregnant and felt rotten I became lazy and only used the cleanser and moisturiser and tbh you don't need all the other stuff, i found my skin was just as good with those 2 products so that's all I buy now, the serums haven't been touched for 7 months!

Exactly….. their strapline of

Creating a healthier, greener, more empowered world

…. is merely words not actions. That’s part of my frustrations with the whole concept, total B&B£#@¥$s

LateDecemberBackInLowB12 · 30/09/2021 21:55

Its literally all fake.

Someone I knew was posting about her lovely new car she got from whatever MLM it was.

She had taken out the finance herself, as long as she hit her ever increasing targets the MLM would pay that month's finance for her, if she left or didn't hit her targets she was stuck with the finance in her name (which is what happened in the end as they kept putting her target up by hundreds every month).

Myfilterisbroken · 01/10/2021 14:23

I can’t think anything worse than going on ‘holiday’ with a load of people you don’t know, to me thats not a prize its a chore!!!

1lifeliveitright · 01/10/2021 18:29

Someone I know does this and recently posted she was desperate to get to Singapore because it was where her dad lived or something sentimental. She asked all her friends on Facebook to buy as much as possible to achieve her target. Several times. Then posted that she's achieved it!
