I am just wondering if this is safe? Obv clothes and so on can be washed .Seen a nice leather bag on E bay .Looks in mint cond from photos . Would it be safe in the bag for a few days under the garden tree? Still a little concerned about Covid you see

I am sure it would be absolutely fine. From what I have read, the coronavirus is easily destroyed by soap, so you could get some specialist leather soap and clean the handbag with that. Or, as you say, you could leave it somewhere for a day or two, because the virus doesn't survive on dry surfaces.

Buy the handbag and enjoy it!!

LaBellina · 23/09/2021 12:58

I had the same issue recently. I washed the leather with water and mild soap and desinfected the fabric inside it with alcohol spray. Would have done that even without the Covid situation, handbags are notoriously germy places!

dottiedodah · 23/09/2021 13:07

Thank you ladies.I appreciate the comments ,never thought about Alcohol spray . I think I will go ahead .Really nice Clarks bag .Just fancied it and really good price! Think I will put under tree for a few days and then clean inside with spray ,and wash outside and strap with special leather soap as advised .

Why on earth would you put it under a tree?!

Shoxfordian · 23/09/2021 13:11

@Sciurus83
Putting something under a tree kills covid… obviously Hmm

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/09/2021 13:20

Don't leave it outside! It might rain (difficult to make things absolutely waerproof), slugs might get into it. Put it in a bin bag (labelled so no-one puts it in the bin) and tuck it away somewhere indoors for three days.

dottiedodah · 23/09/2021 13:36

ShoxFordian In the early days of Covid , advice of leaving parcels outside under a tree (to keep dry) and leave for a few days .In order for Covid to evaporate. Not sure if this was still current advice or not

OP posts:
Shoxfordian · 23/09/2021 13:37

Pretty sure it’s not
Have you been double jabbed? Life has to go back to normal at some point

Why would it need to be left under a tree.

Buy it, give it a wipe over inside and out with antibac wipes and start using it

Goosethemoose · 23/09/2021 13:38

In order for Covid to evaporate…?

Speechless.

There was no official advice saying that.

The official advice was wipe down packing, store packaging for 3 days then put in recycle bins. There was no mention of trees at all in any government advice

Hoppinggreen · 23/09/2021 13:42

Never heard of the tree thing but do what you need to do to feel safe

FizzyPink · 23/09/2021 13:43

This thread is bizarre. I came on to recommend buying genuine designer from a seller like Sellier rather than eBay but you’re worried about catching covid from a handbag Hmm

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2021 13:43

I don't think there was any advice to keep parcels outside 🤔 the advice was maybe leave it 72 hours but you could keep it inside.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 23/09/2021 13:45

For goodness sake, really?

Davros · 23/09/2021 13:46

Brings a new meaning to putting something under the tree 🎄

Lizlou85 · 23/09/2021 13:48

Do you leave every purchase outside under a tree before using it OP? If not, why leave this outside versus a brand new from a shop. Both can be equally germy.

You forgot the part about having to turn clockwise three times and whistle at the moon.

Which would make about as much sense as thinking that leaving parcels outside under trees for covid to evaporate has ever been 'advice'.

You can carry out whatever bizarre rituals you like, but none of them are going to make the risk of catching covid off second hand handbags any lower than it already is.

CheekyChewinski · 23/09/2021 13:59

Wow. Time to get on with your life. Leaving a bag under a tree is bonkers.

Chikapu · 23/09/2021 14:04

I thought the current advice was to let anything delivered through the post bathe in the light of a full moon while you dance around it naked waving a stick of celery and chanting 'covid evaporatum'. Or is that outdated now?

dottiedodah · 23/09/2021 14:07

Shoxfordian Yes of course you are right .life does have to return to normal at some point .We are all double jabbed here .However a friend of ours died of Covid recently .This has made us all feel a little spooked as you can imagine .

Ponoka7 · 23/09/2021 14:10

Covid can be on surfaces. So you can bring parcels in, put them somewhere for three days and wash your hands. Hand washing is the most important infection control measure. I think that you might be mixing up that Covid evaporates quickly in sunlight/heat and the need to quarantine stuff, unless you aren't in the UK.

dottiedodah · 23/09/2021 14:11

BarbaraOfSeville, Chikapu .As you can see from my recent update ,we have lost a good friend and this has made me somewhat anxious .However thank you for putting my mind at rest ,I will be buying said bag and cleaning it!

Strawbsaturno · 23/09/2021 14:11

I bought one in December and just left it in my hallway for a bit. I really wouldn’t hang it outside, it will end up ruined.
