I'm sorry as I normally hate these threads and always swore never to post one.
I was diagnosed with a UTI yesterday. Despite my GP having had the results since early afternoon I didn't get a call back until 6pm with a prescription, this is despite me calling the surgery again at 3pm and 5pm to advise I was getting worse, I was in severe pain plus being sick. I took the first lots of antibiotics at 6.30pm. I'm also 21 weeks pregnant.
The antibiotics haven't made a difference yet, however I am being sick so the likelihood is I've already thrown them up. I'm getting worse. The pain is getting worse, there is now blood in my urine (it's definitely in my urine and not coming from baby as it's only there when I wipe) and I have pain in my side. Google tells me it is now looking like a kidney infection.
I really don't want to call my GP again in the morning as it will be the same situation as yesterday and I won't get another prescription until 6pm again. Considering the pain I am in (it is stopping me sleeping) and that I can't keep anything down so I must be getting dehydrated would IBU to present at A+E? It wouldn't be until the morning as I have a daughter I have to get to school (already sorted someone to take her). The most amount of sleep I have had is 2 hours which coincided with me taking paracetamol which I managed to keep down, I've just took some more though and I threw them straight back up.

OP go, I had almost the exact thing at 19 weeks and it did resolve but I went to A&E after being seen earlier in the day because I was in so much pain and felt so unwell.

Hummingbird80 · 23/09/2021 04:15

You should go, it's what it's there for. If you want some more guidance when you can't sleep then you could call 111 now and will be able to speak to a medical professional.

lannistunut · 23/09/2021 04:17

www.nhs.uk/conditions/urinary-tract-infections-utis/

This NHS page says ring 111 for advice if you have blood in your urine.

Being pregnant means you are especially in need of advice.

Amammai · 23/09/2021 04:18

Yep I would go. You need to be checked. Especially as you’re pregnant. Or can you ring 111? They might be able to get you an emergency appt at an out of hours ward?

herculesoffline · 23/09/2021 04:18

Do you have a phone number for your local labour ward? They may be able to advise

3luckystars · 23/09/2021 04:27

100% go urgently and don’t wait another minute. Kidney infections can get out of hand quickly and it would be better if someone made sure you were on the right antibiotic.

Go now and don’t wait. Good luck.

whateveryouwantmetosay · 23/09/2021 04:36

Yes I had the same thing at 7 weeks and it was a kidney infection! Definitely go to A&E

Starfish1021 · 23/09/2021 04:47

As others have said. Go. Especially being pregnant

Suzi888 · 23/09/2021 04:50

I’d go. I’ve been hospitalised with a kidney infection, drink lots of water- it’ll help with the pain.

pinguwings · 23/09/2021 05:01

Ring your maternity unit- you should be able to avoid a&e and go straight to them

TreaslakeandBack · 23/09/2021 05:06

You have to go in now, UTI as you describe in pregnancy can be very serious. Flowers

Willthewashingeverend · 23/09/2021 05:06

Im a midwife....I would advise that you call your triage/labour ward and get seen. Usually once you are past 18-20 weeks, you are seen by maternity for things like this. You may need some IV antibiotics.

Natsku · 23/09/2021 05:13

Definitely go, these infections can get nasty, especially as you are pregnant.

unsportyspice · 23/09/2021 05:15

Go go go. Terrible pain whether pregnant or not. Hope you feeling better soon.

Sparrow91 · 23/09/2021 05:40

Ring your local MAU - I had the same at 26 weeks and needed IV antibiotics.

A+E will likely just transfer you at this stage x

Boilingicicle · 23/09/2021 05:43

I had the same symptoms and wasn’t pregnant. The GP phoned the hospital to get me admitted. Kidney infections need urgent treatment. Hope you are soon sorted and feeling much better.

AtlasPine · 23/09/2021 05:49

Hope you’re ok and will take the advice of the midwife on here. It sounds horribly uncomfortable.

Is there anyone who can take your daughter so you can go now?

lljkk · 23/09/2021 06:29

Lots of pain, can't sleep anyway, Not U to go to A&E & ask for help.
Hope you update with good news soon, OP. x

mummyh2016 · 23/09/2021 06:38

I actually ended up dropping off after I posted this, I'd managed to take my antibiotics and keep them down and I do feel a bit better now I've had some sleep.
I presume I should still go due to the fact that my antibiotics are for a UTI rather than a kidney infection?
I did ring maternity yesterday when I was having trouble with my doctors and they couldn't help me and said I would have to go to the walk in.

Yes go to maternity
Have a driP anti emetics and also anti biotics all IV

How awful
You have to get on top of it

I had a urine bag when I was pregnant it was the pits

SD1978 · 23/09/2021 07:03

Given you've slept and feel better, can you contact your GP again if you feel the symptoms have changed? The antibiotics may still be fine but they would be the best ones to check with.

The only thing that puts me off the GP is that I'll have to take another sample in for them to send off and they will keep me waiting again until 6pm like yesterday. I was crying down the phone to the receptionist yesterday with the pain and she still made me wait until the GP had finished surgery for the day.

Is still trying them first- as your feeling better, which is great, it's probably more appropriate to at least try to start there than head to A&E. If you feel you're not improving at some point, then I'm sure 111 can let you know what to do next. Hope you continue to feel better!

Dartfordwarblerautumn · 23/09/2021 07:14

Oral antibiotics will take around 2 days to start to have any impact, 3 days to feel like you are improving. If your symptoms get worse, or you’re still being sick in meantime seek medical help immediately

mummyh2016 · 23/09/2021 10:20

I was sick again this morning, I spoke to the maternity unit who fobbed me off and the GP who told me if it is that bad I have to go to a+e. Anyway I came to a+e, it is a kidney infection, they're changing my antibiotics. Just waiting to be seen once more and should hopefully be on my way home soon.
