Don't think this was the worst thing ever but definitely poor judgement:
Late 90s and early 00s I worked in a call centre. There was a big work do one Fri night in a well known hotel in Belfast. So,people were dressing up, not necessarily black tie but fancy. My team's shift didn't finish to 9pm so we were changing at 9pm and going straight there. Fridays were "dress down" at work, but sometimes they were fancy dress with a theme. This Friday had been "School Daze"... so we were all in school uniforms.
Myself and a friend from the team always went out clubbing on a Friday night so tonight was going to be no different, we were just gonna slot in the work do first. So we had the bright idea that instead of changing into formal or cocktail wear, we would just tart up the school uniforms, do our makeup, and go out like that to the hotel and the club afterwards for the laugh.
So, we arrived to the work do and started beating the drinks into us. I remember everyone else was in suits and lovely gowns etc so even at this stage we stuck out like a sore thumb. But we were having great craic. So, when it was coming up to 11, we had to go to the club, because it was free in for ladies before 11. It was this techno club round the corner from the hotel. We didn't really want to leave the craic in the hotel yet though, and the club was going to go on to 3 or 4, so we decided to nip over to the club, get our stamps and come back for a bit before returning later to the club again. So off we popped. Of course once we were in the club, the next thing was to buy pills... which we did. We dropped the Es, and then in even higher spirits returned to the hotel....
So at this stage we were really away with it as we were both drunk and coming up on pills. I remember at one point we were dancing on chairs, and taking off our ties and whipping each other with them...bending over and whipping each other's arses 😆
Anyway we had a great night clubbing after that and were a hit in the club, well we were young at the time and basically dressed like Britney Spears in that video. But on Monday in work there were photos of the work do coming up all day with varuous captions. At regular intervals a picture of me and my friend would come up, with the caption "Some took the School Daze theme a little too far..." The pic was us draped together, one of us had a leg up wrapped around the other one and we were both sticking our tongues out at the camera... E'd up, drunk and tarty. Our Monday sober selves were pretty embarrassed, especially as this was shown ALL DAY.
There was lots of comment and joking about the state of us, but even worse was that I was told that I'd grabbed this guy that worked there and kissed him, in front of his girlfriend who was there and she was absolutely raging and had to be talked out of confronting me or slapping me.. everyone was saying "She didn't mean anything by it", while I danced about with my friend totally oblivious. I remember when I was told this I didn't believe it! (I didn't fancy the guy at all and had no memory of it)-so I never apologised or acknowledged my behaviour to him- it was only looking back years later that I realised I clearly had done it (because I did a similar thing a couple of other times after that, always when I'd first drank loads and later taken Es... whereas if I did it the other way round and took E first and THEN drank, I would remember everything ...).
It was such a topic of conversation at work, someone actually printed out the stills of the pic that was shown on the screens, and gave myself and my friend a copy. It was on the mantelpiece in my house for a while. A male friend of ours was visiting a couple of weeks later and did a double take when he saw it. He told us that for a minute he was convinced it was a scene from a lesbian porno he'd recently watched.... this highlighted even more, as if I didn't know already, how absolutely inappropriate we looked at the works do and especially to be all over the screen at work every few minutes that Monday...
Wish I still had the pic though! 😆 It would be funny to see it now. Ah... it was a good night though. I'm very sensible and don't even drink now but there were definitely some fun times had!
