Asked to leave asda because of folded manual scooter

So, I took my son to school this morning on a manual push scooter that folds into a back pack and then needed to quick get some milk from Asda. After dropping him off I went to asda and then started to fold the scooter up. They asked me to leave it at the door I said it might be stolen there.
Long story short I had to leave the shop.
Went back later when I had to pick him up and they told me when I went in that it was a health and safety risk, but surely leaving it next to the door unattended is even more of a risk? What if someone tripped on it.
I said I'm an adult with my kids scooter folded up, my kid wasn't there.
He said it would be age discrimination against younger people if he hold me and not them, but isn't making assumptions about younger people discrimination?
Very strange.

But that rule applies to all school children therefore it isn't discriminatory - just like the scooter rule applies to everyone.

The school children rule doesn't apply to everyone, it is discriminating based on age (which is a protected characteristic) so saying only two children allowed in a shop is probably illegal.

Fold it out of sight next time.

One of the problems can be people not being aware of their surroundings. Scooter tucked under their arm, they turn around, and knock stuff off the shelf. Or hit someone behind them with it, accidentally.

My ds has a physical disability and uses a manual scooter a lot as easier for him than walking.

He folds it up in all shops and he's never been questioned

I see children in our local asda riding them around the store, I wish they would baby them

@Lesserspottedmama

I went in Asda a couple of years ago and it was a horrendous experience, it seems to attract some shocking people and I could barely find anything I would be happy to feed to my children. I felt uncomfortable to even be in there with my daughter, exposing her to such an unpleasant environment. Do yourself a favour and go to a better class of shop. (By the way - I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination - quite the reverse! So I am not saying that from a position of privilege.)
Nasty!

@Lesserspottedmama I do my shopping mainly online with asda or the new lidl we just got. But this asda is just close to my sons school so good when I've just got to run in for some bits.
I do prefer lidl though, just because it's cheaper and has everything I need

Exactly, if your not being dangerous or rowdy you shouldn't assume someone is going to break something.

On the same trip a man on his phone hit my son with the trolley. Didn't even say sorry.

No but they don't need to be in there. Trolleys, prams etc have to be in there. Stores have to have a policy that covers everyone.

Sorry cant seem to quote at the moment @shade17 . You think its grim. I used to put it on top of a couple of bags folded and obviously never put unbagged food next it. No more grimmer than kid's dirty feet when they sit in main bit of the trolley. It was a small scooter too. Some of us dont have big fancy cars and husband was at work so had to walk to the shop with my child.

Belledan1 · 22/09/2021 19:44

Probably get told this is grim too but in morrisons you have them lockers where you can put your trolleys to go to the cafe I locked them in there before.
