Saw an ad for a job that states the candidate must be great at ‘managing his time’in the Person Specification! In 2021…

The company is Global Interactive Marking Online

@AwaAnBileYerHeid, it is everyday sexism. The person writing the job ad had a mental image of a man doing the job.

I've turned up for a job interview and it was obvious that they hadn't expected a woman. I wasn't offered the job.

Saying that all women can manage their time is also everyday sexism.

RealBecca · 20/09/2021 13:02

Not tempted to apply and when unsuccessful challenge it as sex discrimination?

Id write to them and point it out to them

Mantlemoose · 20/09/2021 13:43

God I can't see why anyone can get worked up about this.

@Mantlemoose, for the same reason as why we get worked up at housework and childcare being assumed to be women's work, for the same reason as why we get pissed off at men being paid more than women etc

I think it was just an oversight as the rest of the ad is fine. But if it's bothering you so much why not just apply and see how you get on (apologies for assuming your gender is female if you are not).

To err is human.

You must not be old enough to remember when sexism was anything but 'casual'. It isn't all that long ago since women were unable to get a mortgage without a hubby or father's permission. I couldn't even sign my own tax returns!

We 'get worked up about it' because the job market still isn't level. I work in IT, and still get asked where the pizza is at networking meetings. There are barely more women in IT than there were when I started 40 years ago. It is just this sort of casual sexism that has prevented change.

This might be a UK role but they’re looking for Indians as it specifically requires Indian gambling experience. That’s why the ‘manage own time’ comes from. They want someone who operated at manager or team leader level, not as an operative in the many (many) Indian gambling related call centres.

Ozanj · 20/09/2021 18:36

They won’t say Manager though because in India a manager would just be a people manager, not an Affiliates marketeer.
