To wonder why they don’t make toy kitchens like they used to?

The Little Tikes Country Kitchen was THE play kitchen of the 1990s. I loved mine. I ha. It away to a Neighbour when I out grew it.

My SIL still has hers and the children all love playing with it. You wouldn’t know it’s over 20 years old.
Mine have a wooden kitchen but it really doesn’t compare.

I haven’t found anything that even comes close to the height, size and durability of the Little Tikes one.

Even the newer little tikes one are not half as good. Why don’t they make them like the country kitchen anymore?

Has anyone found one that matches up?

I keep searching eBay and marketplace but nothing near enough!

YABU: toy kitchens are better these days (please post Recommendations.

YANBU: Nothing matches up to the Little Tikes kitchens of the 1990s.

Look on ebay or other second hand sellers for the old little tykes.

We have the little tikes cooking creations kitchen. Over ten years old now, but my children have all absolutely loved it. I've never seen another close to the quality, they are all so small and plastic these days!

Maybe read the OP a bit more carefully?

YABU, nothing matches up to the Bluebird a la carte kitchen. Artic roll & baked beans all the way!

The IKEA wooden one is great. Ours had lasted 3 children and is still regularly played with now they’re 7, 5 and 2.

LizzieMacQueen · 18/09/2021 20:20

Great little trading co have a few wooden ones. They are £££ though.

We had loads of little tikes stuff too, I used to think I should buy shares we bought so much. Lots was secondd hand and we handed it onto friends when no longer in use.
I don't think anything compares.
Where are you? This one on eBay comes with all sorts of extras.
Country kitchen

TheWayTheLightFalls · 18/09/2021 20:35

We have the Aldi or Lidl one (can’t remember). Wooden and rock solid. Was about £40. Going strong here.

Camomila · 18/09/2021 20:38

Aah I think I had that country kitchen back in the 90s. I remember the ironing board Smile

On the plus side today's wooden kitchens take up less room!

erictheavocado · 18/09/2021 20:51

The Aldi one is great. It's not available right now, but as we get closer to christmas, I would be very surprised if it doesn't return. Dgs would definitely recommend it!

Samanabanana · 18/09/2021 20:56

The Aldi one is terrible, ours is falling apart and hasn't been subjected to much heavy duty playing! Wish I'd bought the ikea one instead

VestaTilley · 18/09/2021 20:59

I think we had a Fisher Price one; it was great! You could walk around it on all sides.

DS has an ELC one now; it’s good, but not as good as I remember mine being!

GameSetMatch · 18/09/2021 21:02

The IKEA play kitchen we have is still in excellent condition it’s six years old and looks like new, it has an adjustable height which is brilliant.

I bought my niece the IKEA one. It seems really durable, and it the price wasn’t bad

I wanted one of these so badly! I used to lust after it every Sunday flicking through the Argos Book of Dreams at my Nan's house.

Yep I had the blue bird one and loved it. I remember all the plastic toy food that came with it.
inappropriateraspberry · 18/09/2021 21:19

I had the A La Carte kitchen! Loved that it was double sided and small enough to move around.
My two have the Aldi one. I do like that many are made from wood (or MDT type stuff). More renewable, recyclable and fixable!

Dragonpox · 18/09/2021 21:27

I always wanted the blubird one, as well as those suitcases that turned into a post office.

peoniesandpastels · 18/09/2021 22:10

We have a wooden Little Dutch one. Very sturdy and you can adjust the height as they grow, which meant I didn't mind spending a little more on it (£110, I think?)

BananaPB · 18/09/2021 22:17

They want people to buy new for each child they have rather than have one item that is suitable for multiple kids- very annoying and sadly not limited to toy kitchens - for example board games from 30+ years ago are better quality than modern board games imo

Didyousaynutella · 18/09/2021 22:20

Can’t beat the ikea one. There is loads on online inspo for pimping it up.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 18/09/2021 22:24

Little Tikes still do kitchens, my niece has one of theirs.

We have an IKEA one at my preschool. It survives a LOT of heavy duty playing even by the two year olds who are a little 'bashy' with it! Will be buying my daughter the same one at Christmas.
