This is worrying as it will push many into fuel poverty.
Rising food prices and empty shelves.
Is anyone worried?

Is there anything I can do? Start a switch today?!

tiddlysquat · 22/09/2021 13:58

Oh FFS

Claudethecat · 22/09/2021 14:19

Maybe don't panic yet, he also says:

I just want to clarify having seen confusion. Appointing administrators doesn't automatically mean going bust (it can mean that) it can also mean finding a route to the financing of a rescue package.

Neveranynamesleft · 22/09/2021 14:26

Who would rescue an energy company in these uncertain times ??

SuperstoreFan · 22/09/2021 14:27

I've read that switching providers whilst yours goes bust can go badly wrong so it's best to stay put and let a new provider be appointed, you can then switch if you want to.

The government? Everyone needs energy from somewhere are the big companies can't take all of the customers from the providers that go bust as they haven't got the capacity.
naynayisay · 22/09/2021 14:37

Can anyone tell me what this means for pay as you go electric and gas? We've kept it on pay as you go as the meter was installed when we moved in and just haven't changed it but would it be sensible to change to direct debit now?

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2021 14:38

@Claudethecat thanks for sharing that 2nd bit about Igloo, that hadn't been posted when I shared the first bit. Hopefully it's not quite as urgent as it first appeared.

Claudethecat · 22/09/2021 15:34

It's hard to know what is going to happen next!

Ofgem has just tweeted that Avro Energy and Green Supply Limited have ceased trading.

Neveranynamesleft · 22/09/2021 15:55

What happens to any credit you may have if your current supplier goes bust ??

PattyPan · 22/09/2021 16:02

@Neveranynamesleft you can contact them to get it back. This happened to me a few years ago when Spark Energy went bust, I called up their customer service which was still operating and they just refunded it to me. They didn’t tell me how much they had though so I had to chase it myself!

Oh bollocks I'm with Avro. I'm going to login quickly to pull my latest bills and outstanding balance.
roses2 · 22/09/2021 16:05

Can't login to Avro to check my balance or bills :(

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 22/09/2021 16:19

Oh no Roses Sad

HarrisonStickle · 22/09/2021 16:20

I'm with SO Energy. They've tweeted that they're fine and have recently merged with another company and are stable.

However, the last couple of months their response time to emails has lengthened quite considerably. And although I was due a bill/statement at the beginning of this month, there's been nothing.

BrownCurlsAmberEyes · 22/09/2021 16:26

Bugger. I'm with Green!

Claudethecat · 22/09/2021 16:40

Sorry everyone caught up in this so far. Sadly more of us are going to have to deal with this too. My supplier says that they are "stable" and nothing to be concerned about but they would say that, wouldn't they!

SpindleWorld · 22/09/2021 16:56

Fucking hell. Everyone do readings asap.

This is shit.

CurzonDax · 22/09/2021 17:02

Ours went bust today (Avro Energy(.

Been with them for iver 3 years and no issues. Account in credit, so they reduced our direct debit a couple months ago. Should still be about £120 in credit though.

Know Ofgem has said sit tight, and credit will be transferred over. However, we're not even allowed to access our statements via their website. Therefore, if the new provider claims we aren't in credit, we have no proof :(
Would have appreciated 24 hours notice before their servers went down, just for their customers to access everything they need.

Our next direct debit is being taken out on 28th - do we just leave it?

We had a very good deal with them. Incredibly worried about new costs now with new provider. Know we can look ourselves, a change from new provider once they have everything set up, but with prices as they currently are - it will undoubtedly be a huge increase :(

Claudethecat · 22/09/2021 17:02

Good advice Spindle, everyone who is not with the biggest companies should get copies of their latest bills and balances too.

bellabasset · 22/09/2021 17:06

My neighbour is with Avro and is owed money by them. Her ds has been trying to get this refunded for about 6 months and spoke to them yesterday. They changed the meters for smart meters, which have never worked. Photos of the meters were sent a few days ago yet again.

We will all be paying extra to absorb the costs of these failed companies.

BrownCurlsAmberEyes · 22/09/2021 17:07

Green are the same - no access to bills or statements.

I would say to anyone who is with one of the (many) smaller companies, it's worth taking screenshot proof of credit periodically over the next few months because if/when your company goes bust, you won't be able to - at least that's the way it seems for me.

YodaiamsaidI · 22/09/2021 17:08

@Midnightstar76 was it Green Network energy by any chance,I was the same, got switched to edf and this is what happens

Gas and electricity bills to soar
CurzonDax · 22/09/2021 17:15

@YodaiamsaidI WHAT?! Did I just see that right? £62 to £247?

How can anyone afford that increase :(

HarrisonStickle · 22/09/2021 17:26

Just did a screenshot and downloaded the most recent statement.

It's a good idea whoever you're with.
