I'm taking my DD for 3 nights in London for her 16th birthday present. I'm planning to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria theatre, natural History Museum, a days shopping. Any other suggestions for activities/museums welcome too. I'm looking for suggestions what area of London is best to stay in or any hotel suggestions (travelodge, Premier Inn type budget).

I've stayed in the Premier Inns in Euston and Kings Cross many times. They're all great as a base and very easy to reach if you're travelling down by train from the north (which I do). Some interesting parts nearby to explore, and either a short bus ride, or a long-ish but enjoyable walk, from a lot of the places you'll probably visit. If you have time, a walk down through Bloomsbury and Seven Dials towards Covent Garden, or down through Lambs Conduit Street to the Inns of Court and thence to the South Bank (from either direction) is a fun and interesting thing to do - mine loved that when they were teens.

Boat trip down the river to Kew and Kew Gardens
Greenwich - lots to do
London Eye
Convent Garden
Westminster Abbey
St Paul's Cathedral - hop across the bridge to Tate Modern and Globe Theatre
Tower of London and Tower Bridge - walk across the glass floor, good if you can time it for when the bridge lifts up
Hampton Court
London is full of Premier Inns, I'd stay central, near the mainline stations

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/09/2021 16:24

The county hall premier inn is fab

MsTSwift · 18/09/2021 16:25

We often stay at Premier Inn Holborn.

National gallery
London Dungeon is great with teens
Covent Garden for shopping
John Soane museum

Phial · 18/09/2021 16:27

Premier inns are great, just find the best location for your different activities.
Sky garden is great but you need to book - I love a free activity.

A Chinese dinner in Chinatown.

Tealightsandd · 18/09/2021 16:28

Natural History museum is next door to the Science museum. The V&A and Hyde Park are close by too.

Tealightsandd · 18/09/2021 16:29

If you're staying in Euston or Kings X, it's very easy to get to Camden if she wants to go there.

PermanentTemporary · 18/09/2021 16:30

I liked the Covent Garden Travelogue for its amazing location. In general I prefer a Premier Inn.

PermanentTemporary · 18/09/2021 16:30

Travelodge not Travelogue...

starpatch · 18/09/2021 16:31

Youth hostel at euston is nice and has twin rooms.

AuntieMarys · 18/09/2021 16:37

Premier inn KX is our place to stay

I forgot the science museum is on my list too. I have no idea of London geography though so don't know which area they are in. Thanks

We stayed in Ibis Styles near London bridge / borough market recently. Very cool, film/theatre decor, nice but interesting continental breakfast and complementary popcorn in reception!
Have fun!

Van Gogh Immersive Experience

I really enjoyed this - the virtual reality bit (which you have to pay an extra £5 for) was amazing. Great steak restaurant Flatiron a few doors down is good for lunch afterwards.

FreakinFrankNFurter · 18/09/2021 16:46

I've stayed in Earls Court area a couple of times recently. Great location for tube - on the lines for Covent Garden and the main tourist areas. Close to natural history museum. Some nice places to eat in the area too

Newnormal99 · 18/09/2021 16:50

Premier inn Euston is between Euston and kings cross so it's very handy for tube connections. You could see if there is one Victoria area as that would be handy for natural history and wicked.

Fluffypastelslippers · 18/09/2021 17:03

Victoria premier inn would be the obvious choice. Also the kings cross one is great, has new rooms and on the 390 bus route direct to/from Victoria. My first choice is always a hotel I can reach easily at night after a show. Holborn is on the 38 route, also out of Victoria and an easy walk to Covent Garden etc. Also walkable from kings cross/Euston in about 20 minutes.

AlexaShutUp · 18/09/2021 17:07

I'm another fan of the Premier inn at Kings Cross. However, we recently tried the Hub by Premier Inn at Tower Bridge, and although it's a bit like staying in a shoebox, it was actually very good as a budget option!

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 18/09/2021 17:09

Holborn is very good for location - minutes away from Covent Garden and walking distance to Southbank where London Eye and London Dungeon are, etc.

I fly to Heathrow to always handy to stay somewhere on the Piccadilly Line for Heathrow.

How are you getting there?

Unhomme · 18/09/2021 17:18

Premier Inn hub Westminster is central and clean. They aren't big so it depends on your needs.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 18/09/2021 17:32

Pimlico is a brilliant place to stay within walking distance to Victoria station and wicked. If you just look up hotels in Pimlico there loads starting from £50 a night

Miremont · 18/09/2021 17:37

I was in London a couple of weeks ago with my three teens and we stayed at Premier Inn Kings Cross. Would definitely recommend. Easy to reach all main attractions. Hotel staff friendly and helpful.

We had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant one of the nights and it was really lovely.

Miremont · 18/09/2021 17:38

County Hall Premier Inn is supposed to be good too and close to London Eye and South Bank.
