To return my foundation

My current Estée Lauder DW is ageing me and so decided to drive 130 mile round trip to Boots in the mall to treat myself to a new more youthful foundation.

Went to Chanel and explained what I didn't want. She tried me with a BB cream (too light) and a Sublimage Le Teint which on first application seemed great.

She gave me all the flattery. I (stupidly) assumed it would cost about £40-£50 and when I paid, it was £105!! For a foundation. I was so shocked, I just paid it.

I feel upset because she actually didn't give me other Chanel foundation options only these - one she knew I wouldn't like and one that was very expensive. I said I didn't want a cakey look and I presumed there were no other options. When I went online later, I saw Chanel sell a few other foundation ranges in the prices I had expected.

The Sublimage is awful, after 2 hours, I look as though I've been frying chips in a sauna and for peri-menopausal, it's not a good look. It also makes my eye and lip makeup disappear and accentuates my pigmentation.

AIBU to take it back and say I was missold? Would really appreciate any comments please.

I telephoned Chanel customer service and explained what had happened. She asked questions and apologised that I had not been offered the full range as the Sublimage would not be suitable for my skin type (ie I should not look that shiny after 2 hours) and coverage needs.

She was very helpful and is issuing a returns note plus credit to spend with Chanel. Together with recommendations on the foundations that would be suitable.

Thank you for your help and suggestions everyone.

But do you want a £100 credit with Chanel? I would be going for a refund from Boots as you’ve been missold but appreciate it’s a long car journey.

Did you use a primer before you put it on, OP?

I find a primer beneath makes a huge difference. I was using Benefit Porefessional, but discovered that the Revolution Pro pore perfecting primer is every bit as good and a fraction of the price.

Mind you, Chanel make-up really doesn't seem to agree with my skin. It tends to make it break out and dry out. Quite how it manages to do both, I have no idea.

Well done for getting that sorted

Does that mean you're getting a refund plus credit, or that the refund is Chanel credit?

@girlmom21 its £105 credit to spend with Chanel once I return the foundation.

@LaVieEstBelle159
That’s great
You can buy some nice perfume maybe with the credit
Glad it got resolved I too would be upset at potentially losing £105 !

Not rtft but Vitalumiereniw is lovely about about £35 ish. It’s medium coverage and you’ll never look like you worked in a chip shop.

Why are they only offering credit when boots policy on make up is that they will refund? If you're happy taking credit then that's your choice but it's a bit galling that they'll only give you credit when the boots store policy says otherwise.
