I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

No. Even a glass or two will make me tired the next day, and not feeling great.
I like to exercise and that is not compatab;e with daily drinking.

Lavender24 · 15/09/2021 21:16

I used to but I was spending too much money, it was impacting my sleep and I started to worry about it being ageing and the links to cancer so I've mostly cut it out during the week. But if you enjoy it and don't feel it's a problem or that it's negatively affecting your life then I think it's OK.

workwoes123 · 15/09/2021 21:23

Sometimes. I like a glass while cooking, then another with my meal. I bought a small glass to use, and a bottle lasts 3 nights at that rate. I’ve stopped drinking mon - thurs purely because DH has stopped drinking, and tbh I’m sleeping a lot better without it. I grew up watching my parents drink wine every night, so it feels very normal to me. But it like being able to take it or leave it.

Cameleongirl · 15/09/2021 21:27

I love wine and could happily have a couple of glasses of wine every night, but I deliberately don’t. Three nights a week, one or two glasses is my maximum unless I’m on holiday. Then I’ll indulge more and go teetotal for a while before and after the trip.

Re. The units. You’re definitely not calculating them correctly if you drink two glasses a night, OP. NHS guides say that one small glass of wine =1.5 units so you must have 3 units per night….and tbh, home-poured measures are rarely small (in my house anyway).🤣. You’re probably having 3-4 units a night, so min. 21 per week, possibly more.

So if most people here say "yes, I do", is it going to be a reassurance for you that it's alright?
Sorry, it isn't.

Whattheduck · 15/09/2021 21:29

I could quite easily but I normally open a bottle of wine on a Friday night and drink it over a couple of nights.

Dangermouse80 · 15/09/2021 21:29

I like a drink every night. To me it is my only vice, I no longer eat chocolate daily, I exercise every day and am at a good weight for height / age etc. I think a daily couple is much better than those who binge drink and waste a day feeling rough. I like a drink but never to excess.

Applesonthelawn · 15/09/2021 21:36

No, I don't like not being "present" or having my senses numbed, so rarely drink at all.

Cirin · 15/09/2021 21:41

Um, no, due to not being an alcoholic.

Shallwegoforawalk · 15/09/2021 21:44

No I just don't drink at home any more, not for last several years. Felt it was a struggle to finish a bottle on a weekend. Don't miss it at all.

Will have some when I go out with friends. Average once every 3/4 weeks I guess (when social stuff is allowed, so didn't drink for weeks during the lockdowns.) Hate that hangovers are getting worse as I get older too! That's off putting.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/09/2021 21:46

I might have one in the morning after my night shift.🌜

Robin233 · 15/09/2021 21:48

When the kids were younger drank rarely- Christmas.
Then when they grew up and we could afford it, it would be a glass or 2 Friday and Saturday.
Never on a work night.
Now when I think , I fancy a drink , Friday and Saturday, but once I've had a bite of food i seem to go off the idea.

Skatastic · 15/09/2021 21:50

I did until I recently worked out how much I am spending on drink. I've been 30 days dry since then and intend to keep it up. I have a really unhealthy relationship with alcohol and I don't enjoy 90% of the drinks I drink.

Robin233 · 15/09/2021 21:52

Also, if we go out for dinner, I tend to stick to lemonade, as with age , I can't follow the conversation and have blanks in the evening - and that is on one glass of wine!

AveryGoodlay · 15/09/2021 21:52

No I rarely drink but for probably very different reasons than many people posting.

I was a drug addict a decade ago, alcohol was never my thing. However, I used to drink now and then. When I became a single parent I decided that drinking alone would be a slippery slope for me and could lead me right back into another addiction. I would never drink two nights in a row for this reason also. I do think if you need a substance to wind down, you may want to consider that it's possible you have a problem.

I feel because alcohol is legal and totally accepted unlike other drugs, people are really blasé about it. I also feel if the government didn't make a killing off of the tax, it would be made illegal.

CorianderAndCream · 15/09/2021 21:52

No, if I have one or two I'll have a bottle so I avoid it except for Saturdays. Also makes me feel like shit at work the next day

merrymelody · 15/09/2021 21:55

One small single malt or a margarita, depending on my mood.

Friolero · 15/09/2021 21:57

I usually have a glass of wine in the evening. I rarely drink more than one though.

Kite22 · 15/09/2021 22:06

No

WeWantTheFinestWines · 15/09/2021 22:07

I'm with you OP. A glass or two of wine most nights. Usually one with cooking and one with dinner. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I did dry January once. Boring, saved a few quid, otherwise made no difference to my life. Everyone's different.

Hesma · 15/09/2021 22:08

No

Delatron · 15/09/2021 22:26

Well I think binge drinking is more concerning health wise.

If you lived in France this would be completely normal.

I don’t drink every day as I’d feel awful and it really affects my sleep. So I have at least 3/4 days off.
I can happily stop after a couple. But wine is one of life’s pleasures for me so I don’t feel the need to be teetotal.

If you can happily stop after one or two glasses then if you could shoehorn a day or two off in the week then I can’t see an issue.

Love the username! I’m not quite at Withnail levels of drinking, (but secretly would probably like to be). Chin-chin!

I have mon-thurs off and drink 3 nights at the weekend. Works for me.

PattyPan · 15/09/2021 22:51

Nope and that doesn’t sound healthy to me. I like an occasional cocktail or glass of wine but I’d feel dreadful if I was drinking that regularly. I have probably one or two every couple of months. I’m concerned about the risk of breast cancer and alcohol isn’t nice enough to be worth increasing my risk IMO.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 15/09/2021 22:51

Very rarely drink myself but have managed to single handedly eat a whole coffee swiss roll since yesterday
