To ask how much your employer contributes to your pension if you are PRIVATE sector

NotyouagainWilliam · 14/09/2021 10:44

Currently my employer contributes the minimum to my pension through auto-enrolment. Think it's 3% or thereabouts.

I want to ask them to contribute more but know they will be resistant and don't really know what I should aim for.

I'm senior management on £65k (I'm not in London before anyone tells me I'm earning a pittance Grin)

12% of pensionable salary, and they match what we put in at the same rate. E.g if I contributed an extra £100 they’d add 12% if that plus the tax saving.
Not in London either

idontlikealdi · 15/09/2021 10:44

Sliding scale up to 12.5%. I can put in as much as I like, I've gradually increased up to10% after ML and not paying for childcare anymore.

TractorAndHeadphones · 15/09/2021 10:45

Employee contribution not required so I don’t contribute. Need money for buying house

bananapumpkin · 15/09/2021 10:45

12% (they match up to 8% and give an additional 4%)

DynamoKev · 15/09/2021 10:47

They pay 6%, I pay 3%

Insomniacexpress · 15/09/2021 10:50

Employer pays 15% and I pay 5%. Until last year they paid in 20%. I know it’s generous.

Grenlei · 15/09/2021 10:50

A miserly 3%

I'm in a senior management role too. I put in 25% which I'm told is the max I can do.

I've also not had a pay rise in 3 years.

Alarae · 15/09/2021 11:14

Match up to 8%. I put in the full match so have 16% going in.

If you contribute more via salary sacrifice, they will also contribute 10% of the Employers NICs they save.

SineOfTheThymes · 15/09/2021 11:17

Tech area: a 50% match on participant contributions up to 7% of total eligible compensation. I currently contribute 8%, so get additional 4% from company.

In previous company it was matched at 50% rate, but to a max of 5%

Nanananani · 15/09/2021 11:19

I commented on your other thread to suggest you’d have more luck asking for a payrise to up your contributions.

To answer the question though they match 2:1 up to 5% so employee pays 5% and they pay 10%

HarrietsChariot · 15/09/2021 11:20

1.5x what I put in, up to 9%

Nanananani · 15/09/2021 11:20

I have 18% going in but it’s been 5 years if that plus I’m a while off retiring

Upupupintheair · 15/09/2021 11:24

5% and I put in 5%. Not great!

Mintjulia · 15/09/2021 11:26

Employer gives 3%. I contribute 5%. Govt adds back my tax.

MaverickDanger · 15/09/2021 11:28

My current match upto 8% (ie 16% total) my new job maximum is me 7% and them 15% (22% total).

DH is senior management and they match up to 17%, so he’s maxed that out to 34% total.

zighead · 15/09/2021 11:33

They match up to 12%. Didn't realise that was fairly good.

evilharpy · 15/09/2021 11:40

15% regardless of personal contributions. Starts at 10% and increases in line with years of service to a max of 15%. I contribute a further bit but can't remember the percentage, I need to look at it further and pay in a bit more. Unfortunately I only work part time and didn't start contributing till I was about 30 so will still probably never be able to fully retire!

Husband is middle management in private sector with a much better salary than me, but gets a paltry 3% (bare minimum for auto enrolment and nothing before that was implemented).

headintheproverbial · 15/09/2021 11:49

Doubles my contrib to a max of 8% (ie I contribute 4, employer pays 8% = 12%)

CaddieDawg · 15/09/2021 11:50

5% employee, 10% employer

Finzi · 15/09/2021 11:51

@Nojobforoldmums, I don’t know what income it’s likely to generate, but the minimum isn’t 3%, it’s 8% total. The 3% is just the employer minimum, ie if the employer only puts in 3%, the employee has to put in 5% or opt out of the scheme.

@MojoMoon, that might be it then. Hopefully they would inform you if you decided to reduce your contributions so that the total was less than 8%!

NotyouagainWilliam · 16/09/2021 13:45

Thanks for replies - I've requested a meeting with directors to discuss!

forinborin · 16/09/2021 13:49

Zero here, opting out of the scheme, works for me. Need to start thinking about the pension tbh.

thecognoscenti · 16/09/2021 13:50

They pay 5% max if we pay 3%. It's shit.

CornishGem1975 · 16/09/2021 13:52

3%. I have to put in 4%.

Never realised how stingy this is!

CheapFoodShits · 16/09/2021 13:59

If my maths is correct, I pay 5%, employer pays 3%.
