To think a teacher calling a parent beautiful is odd

Astressedmumoftwo · 14/09/2021 09:37

Dropping off my son at school this morning, female teacher said "bye beautiful" to myself which caught me off guard. Spoken to her on a few occasions before.
AIBU to think this is odd? I don't particularly enjoy darling or sweet either though

It’s odd, are you sure she was speaking to you and not some random small child attached to another parent?
If it happens again, make eye contact and say ‘Excuse me?’ with a puzzled tone.

Slip of the tongue, like when people say “Love you” by accident at the end of a work call?

CookieMumsters · 14/09/2021 09:43

Bit weird, but I'd probably assume the wrong word came out and the teacher is mortified. See what happens next time you see them.

AdelindSchade · 14/09/2021 09:45

My colleague told someone 'love you' by accident at the end of a work call. Could be this?

DisappearingGirl · 14/09/2021 09:45

Yes she probably says it to the kids and it slipped out!

SaturdaySpread · 14/09/2021 09:45

It's something she says to friends and slipped out. Like when children call teacher mum or you get your kids' names wrong or you call a colleague darling because that's what you call DH

Iggly · 14/09/2021 09:46

Maybe she wasn’t talking to you. Maybe it was a slip of the tongue. I very much doubt it was intentional 😂

BlueberrySugar · 14/09/2021 09:46

Maybe she was talking to a child. I don't think it was intentional. Don't worry. You're quite safe.

DancesWithTortoises · 14/09/2021 09:46

Obvious slip of the tongue.

Tal45 · 14/09/2021 09:46

Very weird - I think drawing attention to the looks of anyone by a teacher is inappropriate. Perhaps though she just calls everyone beautiful and means it in an 'inside and out' way??

Notashandyta · 14/09/2021 09:47

I nearly abesentmindedly said thanks, love you to a mcdonalds worker at the drive thru the other day!
It happens.

girlmom21 · 14/09/2021 09:48

I agree it's almost definitely a slip of the tongue as she regularly uses it with the children.

PumpkinKlNG · 14/09/2021 09:48

I walked past a teacher I hate and in my head I kept saying “awkward!” Then she said hi and instead of replying hi I said “awkward” 😳 so it could be something like that?! Slip of the tongue

MaryHadALittleRam · 14/09/2021 09:49

It's a figure of speech to some people, no harm meant
I wouldn't think anything of it

romdowa · 14/09/2021 09:49

I once called my boss sweetie 🤣🤣🤣 sometimes the brain just has a fart and things come out of your mouth

galacticpixels · 14/09/2021 09:49

I agree with everyone that it's probably something she uses with others, maybe friends, a partner, or the children. She's probably at work feeling so embarrassed right now...

I called one of my male colleagues sweetheart once by mistake. He's never let me forget it but was totally innocent (said it without thinking).
I assume this is the same thing.

2lsinllama · 14/09/2021 09:54

Early Years teacher here - the teacher was thinking about 101 things about the day and it just slipped out. She will now spend the whole day obsessing and cringing about it and probably avoid you like the plague at pick up.
(Of course a similar thing hasn’t happened to me - why would you think that?) 😉

GaspingGekko · 14/09/2021 09:59

@PumpkinKlNG I'm sorry, but that is hilarious. I imagine it really is awkward now. Grin

Costumeidea · 14/09/2021 10:02

Definite slip of the tongue. I once called a client ‘good girl’. I was teaching my DD how to read at the time. She will be feeling so embarrassed right now!

Ilovedthe70s · 14/09/2021 10:15

One time I waved my youngest 3 off in the playground and merrily said see you later cheeky chops to the deputy head who was doing playground duty.

Summerfun54321 · 14/09/2021 10:19

😂 I bet that teacher died of embarrassment shortly after she said it. Like calling a work colleague mum.

MyPatronusIsACat · 14/09/2021 10:24

Well that's one thing I have definitely never done! Shock
MyPatronusIsACat · 14/09/2021 10:24

Slip of the tongue, and nothing wrong with it. Probably just loves the childrens company. You are reading into this too much @Astressedmumoftwo
