To think it is weird for Victoria’s Secret Pink to have a ‘back to school’ range

Is it weird for Victoria Secret Pink to have a ‘back to school’ range? It just seems a bit like it’s sexualising school clothing, for example, the first item in this range on their website is a black lace thong. Or maybe I’m being prudish?

Aren't teenage girls the main buyers if Victoria's Secret? It's 'a thing' to have one of their bags isn't it?

HollyS880 · 13/09/2021 19:31

@pastabest tbf maybe I’m just old as I don’t think it was even a thing when I was at school

I’m not 100% but I think pink is like their ‘teen’ range. When I’ve been in it’s mainly leggings/tracksuits and things, and the underwear isn’t true same sort of stuff you’d get in Victoria’s Secret.

TSSDNCOP · 13/09/2021 19:35

I do think that when they're known for sending models down the runway in giant Angel wings and scanties you've sort of got a handle on their marketing strategy.

TSSDNCOP · 13/09/2021 19:36

I've got a Pink sweatshirt and howlers that I rock with my Angel wings

TSSDNCOP · 13/09/2021 19:37

Joggers ffs not howlers GrinGrin

BananaPB · 13/09/2021 19:38

Pink is for teenagers so it's not that weird imo

Actually their traditional target audience are men buying sexualized crap they think their wimminfolk should be wearing. Which of course makes this even creepier.

Their body sprays are popular too.

I love their pink backpack!
deeplyambivalent · 13/09/2021 19:45

Thinking about the waist-high navy blue regulation knickers we used to wear and feeling proper old..,

Blankspace4 · 13/09/2021 19:48

Yeah Pink is their teenage / college range.

That said I’m in my 30s and still like their loungewear 😬

HollyS880 · 13/09/2021 19:52

Thanks all, fair enough re the pink range being specifically for teenagers! Just took me by surprise initially

I just looked it up, and I don't see anything sexualized or inappropriate about the Pink range. Have you actually looked at it, OP?

SloopB · 13/09/2021 19:54

Tbf "back to school" encompasses uni aged women/girls in the US and it's a US company so I reckon it's just a bit lost in translation.

Hekatestorch · 13/09/2021 19:55

I find this so weird. You have seen something, felt it was inappropriate enough to start a thread. But not inappropriate enough to bother looking at in detail.

They aim at teens up to early 20s. So lots of people who would be going back to school at this time of year.

Also their Christmas t shirts are usually great Grin

QuillBill · 13/09/2021 19:56

I’ve just had a look. All looks completely normal to me. Not everyone going back to school is six. My dd is 17.

QuillBill · 13/09/2021 19:57

My photo was bumped off my post. Having another go…

LakeShoreD · 13/09/2021 20:04

The Pink range has stuff like push up bras and thongs but nothing that I’d consider overly risqué or inappropriate for an older teen. Although ‘school’ is what Americans say when they refer to college aka university. And the Pink brand has a long history of selling on college campuses including hiring campus reps and there’s a whole section of the US site dedicated to stuff with university logos on it. So when they’re saying back to school they’re probably thinking more along the lines of back to uni and less thongs for pre teens.

batmanladybird · 13/09/2021 20:04

I didn't realise that pink was an offshoot of Victoria's Secret

Dishwashersaurous · 13/09/2021 20:15

In the US school is frequently used to refer to university, so that's the marketing.

Ozanj · 13/09/2021 20:19

Pink is their mass market range. They sell nothing I wouldn’t be prepared to buy my neices.

MauvePinkRose · 13/09/2021 20:20

I remember Playboy pencil cases and folders being all the rage in around 2005. That was a bit Hmm

ChrissyPlummer · 13/09/2021 20:25

I used to work for them. Pink is aimed at college students; we were told this on induction, as some parents had complained about a slogan on something a few years ago, can’t remember what it was now, so in the US that’s 18-22 year olds. Younger kids here love it, though it isn’t specifically marketed at them. I remember a mum and daughter shopping, kid was about 8/9 and nearly in tears as she was too small for everything.

LittleGwyneth · 13/09/2021 20:39

Teenage girls do actually have to wear underwear, and they don't usually want to wear M&S beige pants.

Teach your children that what they wear has no bearing on who they are or who they should be treated, rather than raging at an underwear company for making brightly coloured lace crap.
