Staying at a hotel for a very rare night away. Woke up with a massive nose bleed. It's all over the pillow case and bed. It's stopped now but oh my god I've never had that bad a nose bleed! I obviously woke up but not until I'd bled everywhere. My issue is I had to use a flannel to stop the bleeding as we didn't get a full roll of loo roll and I used it all stemming the bleeding then when that ran out I had to use the flannel, it was white and now it's very pink. I've got it in soak but do I offer to pay for the flannel and bedding or just take the flannel? It's had so much blood on it it's beyond saving really, as I'm on blood thinners so it took a long time to stem the bleeding.

I'm really embarrassed. I don't want some poor housekeeping person to have to put this in the bin, the pillow case and bed isn't too bad I mean it's obvious it's blood but it's salvageable. However the flannel is awful. Do

Posted too soon. Do I just ignore it and leave them to it or pack the flannel and then mention it to reception so they know there will be blood in the room ?

I think the hotel/housekeeping will be more concerned about your health than some stained bedding. Shouldn't you be seeking medical advice if you experience bleeding when taking blood thinners? Are you alone - please ask reception for help! X

Bakewellisntjustacake · 13/09/2021 01:51

@pansypotter123 no it's definitely stopped now, I'm not alone I'm good now, but it was quite shocking tbh. I'm just so embarrassed! It's definitely over and I'll be going to the dr when we get home

Don't be embarrassed - they'll have seen worse! Try to get some rest now 🌺

PrincessNutella · 13/09/2021 01:57

They can bleach the sheets. It's not your fault.

KloppsTeeth · 13/09/2021 01:57

I once had flooding from a period go over the sheets in the early hours. I just called for housekeeping and explained. They didn’t bat an eyelid, came in, changed the sheets and left extra towels.
Happens regularly enough. Don’t be embarrassed, it will be fine Flowers

mrsmacmc · 13/09/2021 01:58

OP don't be embarrassed. I would call reception / night porter and ask for more loo roll, take the flannel and leave a note saying sorry / explaining it was a nose bleed for the bedding ❤️

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/09/2021 02:04

God, you poor thing! Just explain, it'll be fine.

Mynamegone · 13/09/2021 02:24

I would explain too and wouldn’t take the flannel . I hope you’re ok!

Yes this happened to me also and we still had 2 more nights stay in the hotel. I just spoke to the lady cleaning the room from house Keeping as she was on the floor cleaning all the rooms.I told her straight that I came on my period and I took the sheet off the bed and put it in the bathroom and could she please change the bedding for me. I didn’t have to but I wanted to so I gave her a £5 tip( or whatever you call it)and she was very happy and appreciated that I told her and also gave her something even though I didn’t need to.

It's very rare for hotels, especially chains to 'own' their bed linen/towels. Most rent it from a linen company on a cost per unit fee for washing. This fee includes wear and tear. The cost is factored into your room fee.

The linen company have industrial machines that can do wonders and if not it gets scrapped. There is a certain amount of damage/wastage factored in to the cost

Rinse it as best you can and leave it. The hotel won't be chasing you for a flannel and trust me, the housekeeping team and linen company have seen worse. Much much worse.

Also call down and ask for more loo roll. They will gladly bring it.

hesterstanhope · 13/09/2021 03:02

If you’ve had a severe nose bleed, you should seek medical advice. You may need a vessel cauterised, a simple and effective procedure.
If you have another bleed, your HB may become low and you could need iron supplements or even a transfusion.
This is obviously rare but involves a lot more mucking about and intervention than dirty laundry.

hesterstanhope · 13/09/2021 03:04

Also keep the inside of you nose moist with an emollient but don’t try this until you’ve been checked out.

ISpyCobraKai · 13/09/2021 03:09

They'll chuck it in a laundry bag and put on clean ones which get delivered several times a week from the laundry company, who also take away the dirty laundry.
The housekeeping staff really don't have to get it clean themselves.

MeanderingGently · 13/09/2021 03:32

I promise you, the housekeeping team won't worry about it.
Hotels send all their laundry to a laundering company, unless they are very large and have their own industrial laundry. Either way, the machines totally bleach the living daylights out of everything, so if you've soaked the flannel/bedding it will come up fine. Housekeeping will have seen much worse many times over and will not be fazed about it at all.

If you ring reception they'll sort out more loo roll and new linen, just explain what happened. Most people don't even bother explaining and room attendants deal with this sort of stuff every day. Usually without a tip, but if one is given that's even better....and very kind and thoughtful of you.

BathMatToe · 13/09/2021 04:23

They won't care.
Cold water is good on blood. Hot sets it in.

romdowa · 13/09/2021 04:36

The bed sheets will probably go back to their laundry service where it will more than likely just be binned.

Pottedpalm · 13/09/2021 07:24

DS had a nosebleed in the night when we were staying in a family room in a hotel. He didn't want to wake us so felt his way to the bathroom and tried to sort it. We woke to find blood smeared on the walls where he had felt his way along and tried to find the light switch for the bathroom. Bathroom look like a scene of carnage as he had splashed water around and wiped on towels. ( he was only 7).
We informed reception and it was all dealt with cheerfully.

Jessicabrassica · 13/09/2021 07:30

When DS threw up in a hotel ( he was small and in bed but housekeeping staff were still around) they binned the bedding he'd been sick on. They said they never wash it.

They also gave me spare sheets, spare bin bags, a spare bucket and left the laundry cupboard unlocked Incase I needed more.

Strawberryhaze · 13/09/2021 07:45

I worked in a hotel laundry/housekeeping for many years. Please let reception know so they can inform housekeeping. It’s really not a big deal for them at all but extra time and cleaning needs to allotted to that room. Leave the flannel with the bedding unless it’s one that comes in a little box then throw it. Don’t worry and don’t be embarrassed, I hope you’re feeling better Flowers

Bumblenums1234 · 13/09/2021 07:47

I would probably mention the bedding so they aren't worrying a bout you after finding so much blood. But I wouldn't mention the flannel and just take it with you. I thought they were to take anyway Grin

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 13/09/2021 07:49

They will bleach the flannel and sheets, and they'll be fine. Just tell reception so the housekeeper is prepared.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 13/09/2021 07:50

I'm surprised that a hotel said they'd never wash it - if they binned every soiled bit of bedding they'd never make a profit.
Walkerbean16 · 13/09/2021 07:53

my son had a nose bleeding on his bed cover at an airbnb. we put it in cold water and told them as we left, (they lived in a different part of the house) 10 minutes later she called us crying that we needed to pay £100 for a new (single) sheet as she couldnt get it out. I'm still pissed off about it 2 years later, she didn't even try and get it out.

Walkerbean16 · 13/09/2021 07:54

(we had left an hour after it happened so we didn't leave it to set)
