Have done both at that time, Budapest is lovely (did live there) and can still be quite warm then. Venice I have done in May and November, may was better

MatildaTheCat · 12/09/2021 20:32

Budapest. Venice is better in warm and dry weather.

PinkFootstool · 12/09/2021 20:33

Budapest.
Go to the Szechenyi hot baths - incredible.

I've been to both Venice and Budapest, and would love go back to Budapest tomorrow just to spend a week in those baths!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 12/09/2021 20:40

Yanbu

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/09/2021 20:41

Been to both - both fab. I’d go back to either, so I would see which has the better deals and go with that

McT123 · 12/09/2021 20:42

Budapest

leavesthataregreen · 12/09/2021 20:44

Budapest, definitely. Hot baths outdoors, cosy art nouveau hot chocolate cafes, opera, galleries, museums, stunning shops.

Venice is beautiful but more fun in spring as half the fun is just getting lost walking around over the tiny alley ways and bridges..

MissAmbrosia · 12/09/2021 20:44

Budapest

AlvinSimonTheo · 12/09/2021 20:44

Budapest

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 20:46

I'ld prefer Venice but it has flooded around then so maybe Budapest unless booking last minute when you know weather forecast.

I'd be wary of Venice in November as it tends to flood October time. That said it's an awesome destination. We went one February for the carnival and the kids still talk about it a few years later.

Buzzer3555 · 12/09/2021 20:49

Budapest..venice is not good in November. I had the holiday from hell there at that time as it flooded and we were stuck in the hotel. Couldn't wait to get home

UniBallEye · 12/09/2021 20:53

oooh looks like Budapest is winning!
All suggestions of good things to do / see / visit / eat there would be really welcome.

I cannot believe I am actually planning a trip at last.

Are there lots of Art Noveau hot chocolate cafes or one specific one? Sounds amazing!

I’ve not yet been to Budapest, but have been to Venice several times in November and highly recommend. It was misty and atmospheric and so lovely to be there without the masses.
Does it have to be November? For Budapest I’d go at the end of Nov/early December (depending on when Christmas stuff starts) to be able to see the Christmas markets etc
Venice doesn’t do Christmas! When we were there in mid December a few years ago I was surprised there was hardly a hint of Christmas and certainly no markets.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 12/09/2021 20:56

Just read a couple more responses - sorry all of you who’ve had bad experiences in Venice in November. Hasn’t been my experience at all. I love the aqua altas you get at that time of year (though admittedly have never been flooded).
Agree with previous poster that another excellent time for Venice is Feb. Maybe do Budapest in Nov and Venice in Feb!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/09/2021 21:02

The Terror House is a really good way to learning about the history of Hungary
Wine tasting under the castle (if it is still going)
The baths at the Gellert Hotel
Tram rides up to Heroes Square
The funicular
If you can be bothered Statue Park is weird and wonderful as that is where all the statues went after the fall of communism
Parliament square and then walk down the river to see the shoes
The synagogue

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/09/2021 21:06

New York cafe for the interior
Cafe Gerbeaud

UniBallEye · 12/09/2021 21:17

Thank you all for the suggestions. We have been to Venice already and have now decided to go back in Spring.

Budapest it is Grin

Both wonderful places but to be fair I’ve never been to either in November. I would worry that Budapest has the potential to get very cold at that time of year but if you’re happy to take that chance, or don’t mind the cold, it should have a nice Christmassy feel to it. I think you’ll have an amazing time whichever you choose, I wish I was going!!

GinGella · 12/09/2021 21:37

Budapest in November. I would go back to Budapest in an instant but probably wouldn't go back to Venice.

Lampzade · 12/09/2021 21:38

Budapest
One of my favourite places

ThePriceIsNotRight · 12/09/2021 21:57

Budapest is incredible. I’ve been to both and Budapest wins hands down.

forinborin · 12/09/2021 22:00

In November... neither Blush
For a November long weekend escape I'd pick either Lisbon, or something proper north if you can stand some frost. Like Helsinki.

Moonflower12345 · 12/09/2021 22:13

Budapest is my favourite city in the world.

Go to Heroes Square and that time of year there is a huge outdoor ice rink on a frozen lake, next to a gothic castle. It's absolutely magical, especially in the evening when it is all lit up. There have a fantastic cafe there by the ice rink where they sell hot lemon and blueberry and you can watch the skaters (or warm up after skating!)

Oh yes. We went to that cafe in the summer and had champagne under the fairy lights. It was magical.
