We're on the lookout for a local gardener to keep our grass cut.

Saw an ad on our local FB page from a young lad who's just trying to start his own business in that area.

Was thinking to pop a message, and then noticed in the comments ...

Could you give me a quote ?

at which point, I stopped being interested. Sorry, but I can't begin to describe how patronising I found the "hun" bit. To a stranger and (presumably) because they had a feminine name.

It's true how much patience you lose as you get older.

(I've swallowed my dislike of the use of "Inbox" as an imperative rather than noun, so that is not my beef here )

Urrh no, not the dreaded "inbox me hun" It's the vile and unprofessional best friend of "you alrite hunny?? "pm me hun🥺" and the long lost next-door neighbour of "Chester draws - wants rid of, Hun."
There's no old fartory about it. 😁

Hun is actually a sectarian slur to some in Scotland.🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Unlike you, I can't swallow my dislike of the use of the word "inbox".
It's a bloody noun, not a verb 😡.
And a "pm" is a private message = noun. So you don't "pm" people!
And on a different note, "ask" is a verb, not a noun - I hate the phrase "it's a big ask" 🙄
I'm unfortunately a grammar pedant and hate the way language is lazily misused.
But I'm with you on "hun". I don't want to be anyone's hun, babe, queen, darlin', mate, love, lovely..........😫😫😫

The hyperbolic overuse of 'vile' on MN to describe anything remotely displeasing from a en suite to a cheesecake, grates on me in much the same way.

Wouldn't bother me at all. It's a local guy starting up a gardening service, how formal does it need to be?
