Been prescribed yesterday by doctor and given yesterday. No dead worms seen but two alive on bum in my DD (2)

An ongoing problem for at least a few weeks complaining of sore bum in night checked over and over again several nights and nothing then a few days ago around 4pm threadworm around anus. I’ve been applying Vaseline cleaned house top to bottom and medicated us all. Washing her hands religiously keeping her in nappies to keep her hands out etc. Washing all towels and sheets and everything recommended.

Should I have seen dead worms by now?
I shouldn’t have read so many stories of ovex resistance etc on all the forums but I don’t want her to suffer anymore. Has anyone any positive stories? Please I’m desperate at this point. I have a 1 year old too and an elder child and no symptoms in anyone apart from toddler.

🤮🤮🤮

Treat the whole family
Clean all sheets etc
Treat whole family again after 2 weeks (then after another 2 weeks if you feel the need, but that will likely be unnecessary)

We've had them quite a few times (house full of nail biters) and I've honestly never even been too vigorous with the cleaning. The ones does the job. Although here the chemist will only give one dose. Apparent you don't need two anymore, so I just buy it over the counter (which I didn't actually realise you could do at first)

@BuffySummersReportingforSanity yes thank you for that! Hopefully that’s the case for us too. She sleeps in a nappy, vest buttoned over the nappy & some weird starfish sleepsuit she seems to have adopted rather than a teddy or blanket 😩😩😩 so she couldn’t get to her bum to scratch if she tried as she can’t unzip the sleepsuit but I’m still scrubbing everything. I’ve washed her hair every day and she has a lot of hair just incase I’m driving myself even more mad.

Funny enough the eldest is my step child but lives with us brought scabies back from a visit to her mums about 7 years ago and it didn’t even bother me just cleaned and got rid with meds really quickly. This however 😂😩 I think it’s because you can see them and things that wiggle are a nope for me.

@dementedpixie

Ovex takes a few days to work as it starves them to death rather than killing them directly
Bring back Pripsen, that stuff was pure evil Grin still can't go anywhere near anything that smells like it.

Hope she's more comfortable tonight OP. If she's wrapped up like that and can't scratch, straight in the shower this morning. Don't shake the clothes, just stick them straight in the washer. Ironing gussets kills any left over eggs as well.

Anycrispsleft · 10/09/2021 06:01

Thanks for reminding me I need to go to France. Here in bloody Germany you need a prescription for worm medication. Can you imagine? Having to wait for a GP appointment, it's horrific. Luckily in France the chemist will sell you almost everything. We have a bunch of worm medication bit it's almost out of date, and I'm paranoid about there being another lockdown. I think I know what we're doing this weekend...

SuperCaliFragalistic · 10/09/2021 06:50

That reminds me of a holiday to France in 2018 when I had to try and get a pharmacist in a small town to understand that I needed worming medicine. Those were some interesting hand gestures.

3scape · 10/09/2021 07:02

The instructions for the worm meds do say they will be "absorbed" by your body so I guess you won't see many dead ones. I guess that's karma for the little bastards

FreeBritnee · 10/09/2021 07:09

We’ve never had a worm problem in the house but my scare tactic when my kids don’t want their nails cut or hands washed is to say I’ll have to come into their rooms in the night with a torch and check their bums for worms. That normally gets them straight to their feet and scrubbing their hands 🤣

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 08:02

So no problems last night. This morning said bum and I thought oh lord it hasn’t worked. I’m not sure yet if it had or hasn’t as I gave the medicine around 5pm Wednesday and now it’s Friday morning so I don’t know yet. She had however pooped. One alive worm was on the poo. Is this a sign it hasn’t worked? It does say it can take up to 3 days so maybe not. No dead ones I could see in poo but someone said some are absorbed so maybe this could explain or maybe I’ll have a worm explosion later not sure. Hope it works

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 13:41

Oh god just had a poo with live worms in quite a few hopefully this means the medicine is working?? Have never saw any on her poo before really quite loose poop too.

I took Ovex on Sunday and symptoms improved after 48 hours but have come back with a vengeance Confused Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to wait a week and a half before treating again?

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 15:02

@BellaPoldark weee having quite a few poos with several worms. I’ve read they can take up to a week to fully be gone. Maybe this is it?

OP posts:
Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 15:19

@BellaPoldark do you still see worms?

OP posts:
BellaPoldark · 10/09/2021 15:42

No, there were a few in the poo about 48 hours afterwards but haven't seen any since. It is the itching that has come back.

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 17:07

@BellaPoldark treat again, I would. I know some people said when they’ve gone to a&e with babies and diagnosed with worms they double dose there. Don’t quote me tho.

OP posts:
BellaPoldark · 10/09/2021 17:12

@Janine5425 that's what I was thinking. I've got myself worried by all the stories of people who have had them for years Confused

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 17:16

@BellaPoldark I can’t cope I’ve told DP that DD will be one of those on the forums ‘I’ve had this for years’. He told me he can’t cope with me and the worms he can cope with 😩

HurryUpAndWait23 · 10/09/2021 17:24

This happened to us once, thankfully day 4 rolled around and they were finally gone.

I'm pretty sure I posted on here panicking about it as well.

I really would take the advice of the previous poster who suggested buying more and having it in the cupboard for next time. You'll be very grateful at 10pm in a years time and it's round 2.

I've been known to de-worm the kids every 3 months when they were both in primary. Just as a precaution. Both of them used to bite their nails so we had no hoops.

HurryUpAndWait23 · 10/09/2021 17:24

No hope.

Fitting typo though.

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 17:31

@HurryUpAndWait23 NO HOOPS 😂😂😂 to be fair she hasn’t done the usual 4pm what’s the matter bum’ and we had a few in a poo my concern was they were wiggling. I can cope with anything provided it doesn’t live in the bum hole and wiggles. Can’t think of anything worse.

Look, it's about breaking the cycle too. If they can't scratch, then the eggs don't get transferred to their fingernails and then to their mouth and then they ingest them again. Break the cycle and you are half way there. Ovex takes care of the worms to kill the eggs. You can always use sudocrem on the bottom area - I think the worm will avoid laying eggs on top of the sudocrem layer

Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 17:44

@User646326712 absolutely.

OP posts:
Janine5425 · 10/09/2021 17:44

@User646326712 have been using Vaseline ever since as seems to form more of a layer that stays in comparison to sudacrem.

@Janine5425.. Just came across your post. I am a threadworm veteran with experience of these little shits for over 40, yes 40! years. They will never go once you have them. We even tried moving house and still they come!
Ovex is rubbish. The only way to eradicate is through strict diet regime which we have never stuck to. The people who make Ovex must be pissing themselves. The amount of liquid and pills we have got through is insane.
We took the liquid on Sunday and DS felt wriggling last night and me today, so we second dosed 4 days early. I know it won't work. They go for a few weeks and then they return. We have tried deep cleaning, boil washing clothes, etc, etc. They must be super worms!
Hope you managed to get rid of yours.

W1ntersnow · 16/02/2022 07:34

Hi @Janine5425 how did you get on, did they eventually go... I'm in the same boat at the moment, going out of my mind... Thank you

dangerrabbit · 16/02/2022 07:36

What is the diet regime?
