Me and a friend both wanted a particular hard to find candle (I know first world probs )
I wanted a different scent to hers.
We had tried a few times and couldn't find it.
She said her cousin had managed to find the one I wanted but not hers.
I thanked her and transferred the £15
She said she would let me know when her cousin dropped it off.

Tonight we were on the phone and she said
"Sorry my mum decided she liked the candle so kept it"

So what happened was she would rather keep it than give it to me.
Nothing to do with her mum
Do you think it's a bit sneaky ?

You know where im heading with this? You have MN on side to help find it

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2021 21:05

Did we not have this recently with autumn themed bedding?

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2021 21:08

Ideas for next thread:

Hallowe'en pumpkin slyness
Christmas tree ornament slyness
Her NY midnight was a minute earlier to beat mine slyness

HyacynthBucket · 09/09/2021 21:14

She needs to get the £15 to you now. Too bad she doesn't do online banking, that's her problem.

barskits · 09/09/2021 21:16

@nerecdd

Thankyou il have a look now I do online banking but she doesn't do it (so she says ) The person doesn't need to do online banking for you to send a payment to them
They don't have to do online banking to send the money back to you either.

They pick up the phone and ring their banking telephone service.

Look at the Diptyque ones. I really want one but my god they are expensive.
Batshitkerazy · 09/09/2021 21:25

You are definitely the seasonal duvet poster, it was the only other thread I’ve ever read with the word ‘sly’ in it. And it was about two friends competing over seasonal themed items and harbouring resentment Grin

So not I am totally gobsmacked!! I'm clearly living in an alternative universe. Genuinely didn't realise people spent so much money on something they are just going to burn ...

Toomuchleopard · 09/09/2021 21:33

Seasonal duvet person definitely used the word sly.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 09/09/2021 22:40

Ooooo autumnal scents and autumnal duvets

I'm laughing so hard I think I just ruptured something.

FlumpsAreShit · 09/09/2021 22:46

I am gobsmacked there are two people around who have an unusual definition of the word sly and spend their time on shopping expeditions negotiating with friends for frivolous items.

Or, wait. Are you seasonal duvet buyers friend? Maybe she's getting you back because you didn't buy her that autumn duvet cover?

😂
AdobeWanKenobi · 09/09/2021 23:01

Oh I'd absolutely buy the one linked above, send a photo of it burning and say 'I managed to find this one so don't worry about looking for the other'

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/09/2021 23:03

What scent did she want? This seems important to me now Grin

Beline4u · 09/09/2021 23:06

@JustBrowwsing has to be theeee best response!! Lol

OP I have SIL who would do something like.. I'd tell her to send money bk ASAP... cheeky git!!

They did, but they also didn't seem like they really knew what it meant.

I live 10 minutes from a Yankee Candle store if y'all want me to look for something.

Derbee · 09/09/2021 23:20

On the website, the ingredients of the candle look the same whether UK or US? Are they very different?

Droite · 10/09/2021 00:03

@WallaceinAnderland

Well, you both wanted it, why should you have it and not her.

Can't get worked up over this one. Just get your money back.

They didn't want exactly the same one, read the OP.

Candles are my splurge. I mostly buy from the botanical candle company which is reasonably priced but this is my one I spend far too much on https://boujeebougies.com/collections/all-our-candles/products/gilt-candle

I reckon they're both from Manchester. Sly and cheeky are used interchangeably around there it seems!

ThinWomansBrain · 10/09/2021 00:26

I don't get excited about candles, but for some reason really really wanted a diptyque one a couple of years ago.
Once burning it smells like toilet cleaner

their hand cream is lovely though.

flashpaper · 10/09/2021 08:09

Sly is pretty common slang up these parts (NW) for cheeky or a bit rude. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if someone used it in this context.
But this definitely reads as seasonal duvet buyer.
