To buy my dog a pram?

She's perfectly healthy but a small mixed rescue who gets tired easily, one of her parents is a brachycephalic breed.

We go for walks but most she can do is 30/45 mins then she's done.
So we just go round the block or to the same Park 10 mins away. 10 there, 10 back and 20 in park absolutely floors her!

I would love to walk to parks further away, I'm so bored of the same small park. I don't drive and want to start walking for my health. There are lovely water parks about 40 min walk either side of my home but I know she would never be able to do 40 mins there, 40 mins back and a nice walk around the park.

WIBU to get some sort of dog pram to walk her there and back and let her enjoy the park as her walk?

As long as you have a thick skin and don't mind people thinking you are a bit odd, why not?

It's entirely down to whether you can handle the comments and staring, people can be harsh.

Emmelina · 08/09/2021 19:29

I’ve seen quite a few around here. It might be a bit odd with a big dog, but understandable for a little one that gets tired. Lots take their dog in the car to somewhere new to play, so why not walk and get the exercise in yourself too!

Oohchichi · 08/09/2021 19:30

Go for it OP! I took our pup out in DS’ pushchair the other day because we were doing a big walk with friends and he’s too young to walk far yet. I probably looked a bit crazy but it got the job done and pup loved sitting in the pushchair!

MyWeeBoy · 08/09/2021 19:31

I definitely wouldn't give a shite about comments.

I’m going to be getting one for my bachyphelic dog, as going on holiday next year and she won’t cope with a full day out! Go for it.

Mindymomo · 08/09/2021 19:33

No problem, there’s some where I live. The dogs love it, you’re being a responsible owner not overdoing the walking.

SandraOhh · 08/09/2021 19:34

Go for it. I've got a small breed and predict I may end up doing the same when she's old and slows down.

suziedoozy · 08/09/2021 19:34

Absolutely get her a pram! Lots of older dogs have them and not only that they do dog specific pushchairs with sunscreens etc

Do it and have some lovely walks

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 08/09/2021 19:45

It’s absolutely fine - see loads of them. Fuck what everyone thinks.

Looubylou · 08/09/2021 19:47

Definately, as long as she still gets her walks, and you can put her down for a potter and sniff on your pram walk. I did this when my dog got very elderly and had off days. Started with old buggy, but pram was much better. My son's old one. I think it benefited his mental health. People were usually kind. I ignored the odd negative comment. One elderly gent went out of his way to stop his group and say "that dog should be walking", 🙄I just laughed, and said he's walked 1000's miles, we'll see how far you walk when you are nearly 120 with arthritis and a growth on your leg". He managed a last holiday with us too, by taking the pram, when the heat was horrendous. Go for it

Davros · 08/09/2021 19:48

I know an elderly dog who comes out in his pushchair. He loves it

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/09/2021 19:50

Of course YANBU! If you're worried people might think you're treating her like an actual baby, could you go all out and get maybe a festival wagon - jazz it up a bit and make a joke of it? Or you can get carts that are designed specifically for dogs.

shouldistop · 08/09/2021 19:51

We got our old dog a doggy pram for his last 2 years of his life. We liked doing long walks / days out and didn't want to leave him behind.

thistimelastweek · 08/09/2021 19:52

I would rather take her with me than leave her behind.

Sod those that judge without knowing the facts.

idril · 08/09/2021 19:59

I see loads of dogs in prams too.

But, the other day, I saw a dog in some kind of backpack! It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. The dog was absolutely loving it!

nc8766 · 08/09/2021 21:07

I see loads of them! Go for it OP!

Cryalot2 · 08/09/2021 21:23

Go for it, I have seen a lot .
It is something I may consider as my little one has trouble with her ligaments in her back legs.
I have not seen anyone laugh at such. People are more likely to bemused by lifelike dolls that some adults have in prams or carriers.
Go for it, but buy one that has bigger wheels and suitable for all terrain and has harness points.
When we were last abroad they were v common..

CorpusCallosum · 08/09/2021 21:24

A lady near us has a little wheelie suitcase type thing with a mesh cover that her pup hops into when it gets tired. It's adorable.

DeadButDelicious · 08/09/2021 21:28

I had one for my first rescue pug when she got sick, very handy, I'm considering one for rescue pug number two who can't handle a full days walking. It would save me a lot of worry. Kind of wish I hadn't given the first one away now but they are relatively inexpensive. I say go for it!

catlovingdoctor · 08/09/2021 21:28

Yanbu, my cat loves his!

My sister has a pushchair for her dachshund as she has back and leg issues but loves being out doors. I think it's cute but I would struggle to use one myself.

jendifer · 08/09/2021 21:39

I think it’s fine. I’ve also seen a lot of people cycling with dogs in trailers or baskets which might be an option if most of the cycle is off-road?

SoManyPaws · 08/09/2021 21:39

Go for it, she’ll love going to different places. Weird comments about what others will think. Who cares what others think if you and doggo are happy with it.
