Had a procedure today, had a GA, usually sleep like a baby after a GA

I’m wide a bloody wake!!!

So unfair.

So AIBU and the drugs should work!

Given the backlog of people desperate for procedures that were delayed by Covid, I think YABVU

JaneTheVirgin · 08/09/2021 02:11

Whaat?! The post GA sleep is the best part! YANBU AT ALL.

NoLeafClover · 08/09/2021 02:14

Well I'm guessing that the drugs are working just a little bit Wink.

@Blondie1984, ah come on now. I'm one of the people who have had fairly important medical appointments and procedures postponed indefinitely. That doesn't mean that the OP can't have a wee moan. Coming around from GA is often a disorientating and bizzare experience.

AdditionalCharacter · 08/09/2021 02:18

YANBU at all. Love the post anaesthetic sleep. Usually a good three nights for me.

Hope you manage to get some sleep.

Only on MN.
CovidIsADick · 08/09/2021 02:50

@Blondie1984 U ok hun?

ShippingNews · 08/09/2021 02:52

I had a GA on Monday, and had a nightmare that I was being harassed by an annoying colleague of mine from work. I was really glad to wake up !

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Mine being one of them!

I didn’t just rock up and ask for a GA

Sadly still bloody awake.

I always wake up sobbing, which is pretty embarrassing really.

Ekerty72 · 08/09/2021 05:52

I had a lovely relaxing massage for an hour last night after a very long day at work and I honestly thought I'd be z'zzing til much later than 4.30am, which was what time I woke up....Aaarrrgghhhh

gabbygabbygabby · 08/09/2021 05:59

Highly unlikely. The anaesthetist would have noticed that they were unable to put a tube in your airway as you would have a gag reflex if you were awake. And then they would have anaesthetised you.

More likely you had sedation.

daytripper28 · 08/09/2021 06:03

@gabbygabbygabby - you're missing the point.

I'm always awake bright and early - regardless of 12 hour shifts worked and constantly knackered. I could try a GA but you're telling me that don't work either.

We'll just have to crack on...

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 08/09/2021 06:27

YANBU

With you OP! I had emergency surgery under GA at midnight on the Saturday night of the BH weekend, then didn’t sleep at all from waking up in recovery at about 1.30 until around 8pm that night, and even that was only for a couple of hours. My sleep pattern is still screwed and I’m knackered!

gabbygabbygabby · 08/09/2021 06:42

Hahaha I totally misread the whole thing Grin sorry. Too early for me. Where's the coffee.

MissMarpleRocks · 08/09/2021 06:56

I’m another that loves the sleep following a GA. it’s that cosy comfortable feeling. I’d be very miffed too if I didn’t get that.

Whinginadeville · 08/09/2021 06:58

Blimey I feel robbed I've had 5 operations in the last 10 years and I'm always awake all night post GA. I do have a serious nap every day for about 6 weeks after though

StrangeToSee · 08/09/2021 07:06

Next time ask them to put electrodes on your forehead so you’re not semi conscious by accident. And ask the anaesthetist for midazolam before they put you under, so if you accidentally become conscious you won’t remember.

SilverDragonfly1 · 08/09/2021 07:22

I'm one of the people who are kept awake by any morphine adjacent drugs, right down to co-codamol. Maybe you were given a drug you haven't previously had during the procedure?

Agree it's very unfair anyway!

I do too! Like really really wet and snotty loud sobbing.
Rangoon · 08/09/2021 07:39

I look waking up from a general anaesthetic as I just always feel grateful to be alive.

Rangoon · 08/09/2021 07:40

That should have been love waking up.

Me too!
BrendaBubbles · 08/09/2021 07:45

Are you saying they operated on you and you were conscious rather than out? That is a thing and the thought of it terrifies me
