Am i just being petty or would this annoy you?

Last week my friend suggested that i should give her a spare key to my house for emergencies as i was complaining that my partner had lost his again and i was fed up of having to wait around to let him in etc. It seemed like a good idea, i would always know where a key was if i got locked out. But since giving her the key she's let herself in 3 times! And i hate it! I like my privacy and the option of not answering the door if i'm busy or in the bath. Its really driving me mad. I'm being petty arn't i?

YANBU. I would feel weird letting myself in without permission.

Mumofaflump · 02/05/2011 20:44

Tell her you have just realised it will invalidate your house/contents insurance (I think it actually would as they would say you had given a key away so weren't adequately protecting your house) and ask for it back. Or, fit a deadlock and don't give her that key!

My neighbor/friend used to let herself in when i was at work and help herself to stuff out my cabinets if shed run out.I didnt know this for years but when I found out it explained all the times I went to get a tin of something or a new bottle ketchup or milk and discovered there was none. i was always really surprised as I was sure I had said item but figured Id made a mistake. She moved and gave me back my key and guess what........it hasnt happened to me since :o

I would cool the friendship a little, she seems a bit intense.
My mil has done this, when we were out. I only knew because an apple pie had magically appeared in the fridge when we got back! She had also washed, dried and put away stuff i hadn't had chance to do earlier! I know she meant well and i should be grateful but it did make me feel a bit funny.# Sceptical: Sceptical Hmm

Your "friend" sounds like a controlling PITA! Its your house. Stand up to her. So what if she nags you? Does that mean you have to give in? Do you want someone who insists that they must have a key to your house to actually have one? Better still? Phaaaaaase her out of your life. She sounds thick skinned. She can take it.

That is totally inappropriate. YANBU.
