to think it is not inappropriate to shower when workman is in the house?

We have someone doing some work for us today, a joiner, in two of the bedrooms. I am in our bedroom feeding the baby (joiner does not need to come in here). I just mentioned to DH I will be getting in the shower so will put baby down in the cot.

He suggested it is not appropriate for me to shower while he is in the house. I said I cannot wait til he's gone as we are going out to a party this afternoon and he is likely to be here until then and I don't think it's an issue anyway though don't really want him to see me in my PJs.

Is it just me who thinks it's odd DH says I shouldn't shower as their is a man working upstairs?

Unless you are in the plot of a 1970s sex movie, 'Confessions of a Joiner' it's totally fine.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2021 11:12

I would t if alone in the house for my own safety with strange man in the house.
But your DH is there and can look after the job going on and the baby.
Why on earth not ??

Alternista · 04/09/2021 11:13

@Mydogisagentleman

Ask the workman to wash your back. OP, your DH is a div. what on earth does he think is going to happen?
Laughed into my tea at “ask the workman to wash your back” Grin
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/09/2021 11:14

Unless there is a drip feed coming that the work being done is on the bathroom cabinets, then no, I cannot see why you cannot take a shower.

Shimy · 04/09/2021 11:26

Perhaps OP was going to wander out of the bathroom just in her towel? OP had already alluded to I don't think it's an issue anyway though don't really want him to see me in my PJs., surely you wear a dressing gown on top? joiner guy need to see OP in anything but fully dressed. Maybe this is what's making dh uncomfortable or perhaps he thinks the mere sound of sloshing water will be too distracting for joiner guy Grin.

I'm assuming you have an ensuite so no reason for workman to be anywhere near you.

If it was the only bathroom I'd maybe feel a bit more Hmm, as you need to get across the hall to it.

I wouldn't shower if it was just me and workman incase of questions but not an issue if DH was about.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/09/2021 11:40

"I'm assuming you have an ensuite so no reason for workman to be anywhere near you."

Why do you assume that?

GintyMcGinty · 04/09/2021 11:41

PumpkinKlNG · 04/09/2021 11:42

I wouldn’t but then I’m single so would be odd

HurryUpAndWait23 · 04/09/2021 11:43

@sbhydrogen

Dear DH,

Don't be ridiculous.

Love OP

Oh God! Why is MN becoming so bloody cringey?
Maverick101 · 04/09/2021 11:46

Who are these mythical unicorn tradesmen who would need to ask a woman a question when there was a man in the house...?

(And, yes, your husband is being a dill)

Most newish houses do. However I'd be reluctant to run across the hall in my pj's with a random guy upstairs. Also a house with only one loo and your having a shower in it becomes a bit awkward if he asks "do you mind if I use the loo" - "eh you need to wait for the Mrs to get out the shower"Blush
diddl · 04/09/2021 12:09

I don't have an ensuite but the bathroom is next to my bedroom.

I'd probably risk walking from bathroom to bedroom with a towel tbh as I prefer to get dressed in bedroom.

Both doors lock!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 04/09/2021 12:29

When I suggested he was being ridiculous he said something about getting dressed in the bathroom, as if I needed him to tell me not to walk around naked...

I wouldn’t have a shower whilst there was a workman in the house if I was on my own. I probably would try and avoid it even if DH was there, I would have my shower before the workmen arrived if possible. If not possible then yes I would have my shower whilst they are here.

May I ask why?

Maybe in MN land lol.

I'm single too, but if I need a shower, I need a shower. I'd take my clothes into the bathroom with me.

Maybe so but I've been in 2bed starter flats with ensuite. But then I'm also stunned at the £1.7m pad that someone linked to on MN the other day.
BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 04/09/2021 12:57

No en suite. It's not a new house.

I had the shower. He didn't see me at all as he was in another room.

I usually have had a shower by 9 am but with a two month old it's nothing anyways possible. Joiner came at 9:30 and I was still BFing baby.

My husband is a plumber and you’d be surprised at what he has seen, very scantily dressed women sitting on edge of bed talking to him whilst he is working to young teenagers walking around completely naked, at which he has told the owners that he’s not happy with them doing this. He also had a couple of situations where men also walk around naked.

memberofthewedding · 04/09/2021 13:00

Men can be very odd about such things. I have a nephew who sometimes comes to do odd jobs. One day during the heatwave he got very hot and sticky and I invited him to take a shower. There is a lock on the bathroom door and of course he could have dessed and undressed in there. However he said he "did not feel comfortable" having a shower outside his home. Go figure.

VeganVeal · 04/09/2021 13:08

I can see DH's point as the joiner is putting up new shelfs in the bathroom

Is this a joke?

Hmm

VeganVeal · 04/09/2021 13:14

Sorry that was wrong, it should be shelves not shelfs
