So I’ve worked all week (early years setting) with two kids whose parent has Covid, they are allowed to attend due to the rules in Scotland, they could have Covid as under 5s are exempt from asymptomatic testing. If I get Covid and I feel like it’s only a matter of time, my daughter can carry on her life as normal, as per the rules in Scotland, but I’m a single parent with no back up, if I get Covid can I take my daughter, to school, activities, etc as long as I stay in the car?

I think you have to isolate. It's probably best your daughter does too, so her whole class doesn't get it.

Niffler92 · 03/09/2021 22:46

Rules in Scotland now are that even if someone in the household has Covid other house members can carry on as normal after a negative pcr, multiple kids in her school with a parent or siblings with Covid.

If your daughter is old enough to do a drive by drop off I would certainly do that to get her to school and see if another parent would see her to the street for you to pick up. Other activities I guess depend on what they are as well as her age.
Officially I expect you shouldn't do this - but then officially your daughter should be in school. May e ask the school what the plan is in anticipation...

BasementIdeas · 03/09/2021 22:54

No. Going out in the car is not isolating

Either you will need to call in favours with you DD class mates or she will have to stay home with you

lljkk · 03/09/2021 23:19

You're vaccinated so you won't get it.
You haven't had any contact with anyone with covid.

AuntieStella · 03/09/2021 23:25

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

But if you are isolating, no you shouldn't go out at all.

So either your DD will have to miss school, or you will have to pull in some favours. If you don't have anyone to ask, then that if course rules out that option.

But it's something to work in for the future. Covid isolation might be the thing on your mind right now, but there are other things, like broken leg, appendicitis, another illness leaving you housebound for a few days etc. So getting some sort of network would be a good thing

@lljkk

You're vaccinated so you won't get it. You haven't had any contact with anyone with covid.
Umm, that’s a lie.

Vaccinated people have and are getting infected, some have even died.

Incorrect.

It worries me that people think this.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/09/2021 06:35

If you do get covid you may not be well enough to drive anyway?

DiscoDown21 · 04/09/2021 06:42

I still think this rule is baffling. I get the outside contacts but I think home contacts should absolutely isolate. I absolutely agree with kids being in school as much as possible and not isolating with school contacts although this is still dicey, I get why.

I’m not sure how anyone is going to get their child to school though if you are supposed properly isolating, I wouldn’t want to be a friend taking a child that’s living in a home with Covid.

No wonder cases are rising so highly so quickly.

Vaccinated people are still catching Covid. Lots of staff on my ward have had it recently. It’s keeping most out of hospital and the reduction of severe illness/death is working but Delta is so infectious.

How on earth can anyone with access to the internet say “you’re vaccinated, you won’t get it”?! I agree that it’s possible she won’t get it if she’s not had direct contact with a known positive covid person. But you don’t know if she has or hadn’t been in direct contact!

I am vaccinated and I have it. I caught it from my son, who caught it from someone he had close contact with ( I did not have any contact with this person). If her child has contact with someone, the child could bring it home to her.
Grapeuk · 04/09/2021 07:03

Sorry I misread the original post - if the child she works with catches it from their parent, they could bring it to the nursery.

Mybalconyiscracking · 04/09/2021 07:08

I think you can take your daughter out in the car to school etc, where’s the real risk if you don’t get out of the car.
This is getting silly now!

AuntieStella · 04/09/2021 07:39

Isolation has never included a provision for 'you can leave your house if someone on the Internet says it's ok' nor one for 'you can go out tomdo the school run'

OP: can I reiterate that you need to grow a support network. Even though it won't be in time for this (not yet actually happened) event, there may be other times in future when you need help (or can be the one that helps out)

Kithic · 04/09/2021 07:42

@lljkk

You're vaccinated so you won't get it. You haven't had any contact with anyone with covid.
You can still get it if you are vaccinated

You should have lesser symptoms, and be less likely to spread

SometimesMaybe · 04/09/2021 07:44

If you have to isolate in order for the rest of your household to continue as normal they have to have a negative PCR and isolate from you within the household. If you can’t isolate away from your daughter then she will need to isolate too.

I had covid after my vaccine. Educate yourself
lljkk · 04/09/2021 08:23

OP is catastrophising.

lljkk · 04/09/2021 08:27

Most people who are exposed to covid don't get it after that exposure.

People in August 2021 in Britain are Less likely to get it after being vaccinated.

These children hasn't had covid recently while under OP's care, anyway.

IamMaz · 04/09/2021 08:56

A good friend of mine is double vaccinated. He was ill only a couple of weeks ago - with Covid. I was seriously considering getting the police to do a welfare check on him one morning as he wasn't replying to my WhatsApp messages and hadn't been on it since the previous evening, which is most unlike him. I had visions of him being unconscious in bed. Thankfully he finally messaged me and had been asleep!
He's still not fully recovered now...

Niffler92 · 04/09/2021 09:04

@lljkk I don’t think I’m catastrophising these kids potentially have Covid they haven’t been tested because they have no symptoms but both are more tired and grumpy than normal.

Less likely to get it after vaccination yes not that they can’t get it.
