Would you ask him to get a PCR?

Awkward one and I'm not sure what to do. I've been on a few dates with a man, and we had loosely suggested going to a restaurant on Thursday.

Over the weekend he came down with 'a cold'. Headache, stuffed up nose, sore throat etc. He was very quick to say 'it's not Covid' as he had taken a number of LFTs which he has to do for work anyway.

Keeping the conversation light, I suggested that Delta can present differently and also LFTs are possibly more unreliable when you have 'symptoms'. When I say 'light', I mean it's really none of my business so wasn't going on or anything, it was just chat.

He made noises that he 'might' get a PCR then. He has a family get together tomorrow and afaik he's going and hasn't taken one yet.

If he does want to go ahead on Thursday, it's not my place to ask him to get a PCR first. But I feel awkward cancelling too. Whilst it might not be Covid, I am a terrible ill person, live alone and am self employed so will easily be drawn to netflix if I get so much as a headache Grin but obviously would impact my income and practicalities involving isolation.

I'm a little surprised, as he seems generally sensible, but obviously I don't know him at all, and if he goes to the family party without a test I think that's a little irresponsible. I'm not Covid anxious, I just think if it were me, it's a small thing to take the precaution of a test so at least you know either way.

So in anticipation of us discussing dinner on Thursday, what would you say, or not say?

Delighted he seen sense. Hopefully it's negative.

I hope so too. Haven't heard anything yet coming up to 24 hours since the test. Table is booked for 7 and now I'm in this stressful limbo waiting Grin

The problem is you hear so many different things. I went for a PCR because I came down with a cold, a lot of sneezing, headache, and indeed, feeling a bit feverish. I did lfts and they all came back negative but then I heard that it's not uncommon so booked a pcr.

When I went, the nurse asked me if I'd done them before, I said yes, I've done lft this week. She said oh they were positive then. I said no. She looked at me at this point as if saying what are you doing here. She asked if I had a fever and cough, I said no, not really, she then looked at me as if I was totally wasting her time, said that I'll be fine then. I said that I'd read symptoms were different when vaccinated, she said they were not really.

Fair enough, the test came back negative!

@vivainsomnia did you go to a drive through? Here they are all test yourself , no nurse etc

Not sure why she was funny with you.

Well we waited all day and had a chat at 5pm about rescheduling. Just as we agreed a day and I went online to change the booking, he texted and said his result came through. Negative Smile

I currently have the delta variant and those are my exact symltoms
Headache, feverish but not massively, I never got a temp, stuffy nose/runny nose, sore throat.so yanbu.

dreaming174 · 02/09/2021 17:43

Oh just saw he tested neg. Great!

Zelvinka · 02/09/2021 18:05

I have a similar problem- my sister (twice vaccinated) has had a bad cold, slight fever & sore throat all week. Negative LFTs. She will not get a PCR test & is at work (very busy office with some staff unvaccinated by choice) plus seeing my (luckily vaccinated but retired) parents.
I'm annoyed with her & haven't seen her while she's unwell.

I work for an NHS hospital & we're told to ignore negative LFTs if we get a sore throat & to get a PCR straight away.

Zelvinka · 02/09/2021 18:06

Her reason is that she's too busy to isolate if she's positive.

Sparklfairy · 02/09/2021 18:11

Yes I think a lot of people have that "logic" @Zelvinka... without actually thinking about if they are positive, they're still positive with or without the test so just spreading it around Hmm

It's pretty selfish imo to not just take a test purely because you don't want your life to be impacted by isolation.
