Parent A left 4 month old baby unsupervised in a baby bath (pic attached) which was on bathroom floor whilst they nipped across the landing to grab baby's towel from baby's room.

Parent B is appalled and thinks this was a serious lapse in judgement as they don't take their eyes off baby for even a second in the bath. Parent B thinks Parent A should have instead called them to get the towel.

Parent A thinks Parent B is overreacting and overly anxious, and is sure that baby was fine for the 20 seconds or so they were out of their sight.

Why do (some) dads always do this rubbish?!? I don't understand and it really annoys me. Even if the mothers are first time parents too, they somehow seem to know of the risks around babies and water.

The 3 times I have heard of babies dying in inches of water in real-life, it's always the dad who left them "for a few seconds". Devastating 3 families for something completely avoidable.

Show Parent A this thread, he needs to be clear on why he should never do this again.

Parent B is right

Howareyouflower · 30/08/2021 21:18

Parent B was right.

Applesandpears23 · 30/08/2021 21:29

Parent B is right. Tell parent A to take the baby with him. If really necessary, lay baby on bathroom floor and tip water out of baby bath. That would be uncomfortable but not dangerous.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 30/08/2021 21:33

I can't believe you don't keep a single towel in your bathroom. Even a "due a wash hand towel" would have been more acceptable than to risk your baby drowning.

Parent B is right, obviously.

Parent B is obviously right.

99redballoon · 30/08/2021 21:38

B is correct

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/08/2021 21:40

Parent B is right, but there is a way of speaking to your spouse which doesn’t make them feel stupid/ unfit. “Please call me next time if you need a towel fetches” or similar.

AdaColeman · 30/08/2021 21:51

Parent B is right.

Parent A must learn to get all the bath kit together in reach before the baby goes in the water. Make a check list to make it easy.

Pinkfluffyunicornsandrainbows · 30/08/2021 21:59

A baby should NEVER be left alone in water, even for a short time. It's not worth the risk imo.

KarmaStar · 30/08/2021 22:00

Parent B is correct.assume that was you else you wouldn't have posted.

LoulaJ · 31/08/2021 07:21

We do. He chose not to use it as he wanted to use a baby towel from her bedroom.

I said he should have done this - if I'd been alone and made the mistake of not getting a towel ready beforehand I'd have done either of these things. Thing is he wasn't even alone as I was home so he had the option to shout for me to help as well. Very much hoping this is a one off lapse of judgement!

You really didn't need to do Parent A/B everyone reading knew it was a dad

I didn't want to bias the responses by revealing which parent was which; I wanted people's genuine views on the safety or not of this regardless of who was who.

Well I was wondering why he didn’t take the baby out of the bath and put her on the floor where she’d be safe if a bit chilly but there was actually a towel within reach, which is plain ridiculous.

Looneytune253 · 31/08/2021 07:44

Don't leave a baby unattended in any water is the rule I go by but at the same time if it was literally over the landing and grabbing a towel I'm betting it was around 5 seconds so couldn't get het up about it

Ok, so luckily this time no harm done. Start keeping the baby's towel in the bathroom and problem solved.
