What's the best thing you did at your wedding

Something you're glad you spent money on? Or didn't think would matter but definitely did?

A month to go and planning is under control so I'm looking for anything we might have missed to make the day even more special (around 90 guests, non-church, in the countryside).

Oh, we also had activities / games for the kids while canapés were served and gave them all an activity bag to keep them entertained during the meal and speeches (the parents were grateful for that).

One of the best things wasn't planned though - I asked my MOH to put my phone in her bag. Her DH stole it and spent the day using it to take photos, I only found out when he gave it back to me at the end of the night. I loved that he did that!

Had a buffet and the caterers got the guests who were veggies/on special diets to come up immediately after the top table so that they got their hands on the items aimed at them first. Been to too many buffets where the meat eaters have also gone for veggie options leaving very little left for the veggies

Full soft play set up for the kids. Never saw them all day and the adults got to enjoy themselves. Hotel suggested it, best £170 we spent!!

The standout moment for me was when we got to our hotel room and saw ourselves in the full length mirror together in all our wedding finery! It was a really sweet moment.

Pictures up of all the guests - some funny, some formal - really showed our relationship with them and why we wanted them there.

Info sheet - all the information on timings(especially food), taxi numbers, where the nearest cashpoints were (rural location), contact numbers (and names) of venue, BM, Chief BM etc.

Complete control over the music - I gave the DJ a playlist and asked he take no requests. It worked brilliantly as I do pick bloody good tunes Grin

Paying for dancing lessons for a proper first dance. Worth every penny.

Long time ago now but we did book a nannying service that the hotel provided a room for. Had everything from travel cots to x box type of things. Very much appreciated by those who bought children

Best thing was did was do it as cheaply as possible. Like, that wasn't the goal necessarily, we just both really weren't arsed about anything specific or having a formal wedding and just wanted to BE married. So we had six guests, just a register office ceremony (which turned out to be really beautiful, the room was gorgeous even without us doing a thing to it!), chose our songs, I wore a dress from H&M, our rings were like £80 each and then we went for an afternoon tea after and we were home for 6pm.

For two people who weren't into weddings it was the perfect day. DH didn't even think about what to wear until fifteen minutes before we set off haha.

The thing that makes that the best part is how we saved so much money that we could put to other things, we'd just bought a house, had a baby on the way, and it made that first year of parenting so much easier having money spare that we would have spent if we'd had a fancier wedding. You're just as married legally after a £300 wedding as you are a £30000 wedding :)

Ceilidh was by far the best thing we spent money on. Absolute hilarity.
