To not think a 30 year old is young

In any respect anymore

At 33, with increasingly grey hair and a slight but definite decrease in 'youthfulness' (looks, mindset etc)... no I don't feel 'young' any more! Not old, obviously, but not young. And certainly not young enough to justify stupid behaviour.

Treezan82 · 29/08/2021 20:36

@MerryHellbreakingloose

I'm 32 and hurt...
I'm 38 and devastated.
maddening · 29/08/2021 20:36

And?

Penquinoa · 29/08/2021 20:37

Is it a full moon on mumsnet tonight?

So many weird threads...

Imnewhere1991 · 29/08/2021 20:37

I'm 30 and sometimes I still feel young and get excited about things like Disney and colouring books 🤦 but then I look at my nearly two year old son and feel old. I think becoming a parent ages you as they are the new generation.

VanGoSunflowers · 29/08/2021 20:38

30 is still young.

And stop splitting your infinitives Wink

Imnewhere1991 · 29/08/2021 20:38

@Scarby9

I am 60. 30 is young. But I clearly remember believing it wasn't young. I hated my 30th birthday in a way I haven't felt about any other birthday.
I did too. I turned 30 this year and really struggled with it. Going from 20s to 30 seemed such a leap and it still makes me feel low if I think about it too much. I was once told your 20s flew by and they so did.
Sparklesocks · 29/08/2021 20:39

Well obviously it’s all about context isn’t it? It’s not young in the context of hitting adult milestones, but it’s young from a relative perspective if you’re in your 70s!

RussianSpy101 · 29/08/2021 20:40

I’m 30 and married with 3 DC. I didn’t feel very young until we recently had a house viewer who, as she was leaving, said “you’ve got a gorgeous home to say how young you are”

I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that.

VanGoSunflowers · 29/08/2021 20:41

I’m the wrong side of 35.

I was quite grown up when I was a teenager - moved out of home (not uni) and supported myself financially etc etc
But I still felt young.
I don’t feel young now. But that’s because I feel depressed and knackered.
I look pretty young (not a stealth boast) but I feel much older than I am.

LaProcureure · 29/08/2021 20:43

I’m quite a bit older than 30, and still young, so 30 must be!

LemonPepperOrder · 29/08/2021 20:44

I’ve read the word “young” so many times it’s now lost all meaning and doesn’t even look like it’s spelt right anymore so that’s enough MN today🤣 I’m off too lay in a dark room

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2021 20:45

Of course it's young !

Oblomov21 · 29/08/2021 20:48

I don't think it's young. By 30 you would ideally be into starting a Career, engaged, definitely not leaving it much longer before having kids. Ideally. We all know many who don't get that ideal.

AlbertBridge · 29/08/2021 21:00

I'm 50 and I don't think 30 is young. 16-24 is young.
25-40 is ... there's no word for this. Adult?
40-49 is Adult+. 😆
50-60 is middle-aged.
60-70 is Middle Aged+
70-death is old.

Raggedyanabell · 29/08/2021 21:37

@MerryHellbreakingloose

I'm 32 and hurt...
🤣🙌
MadameMinimes · 29/08/2021 21:45

Like others have said, depends on the context.

I’m in my mid 30s and the oldest of my siblings. At family events I feel neither especially young nor old.

As a teacher in a classroom of students in their teens, I often feel very old.

With the group of colleagues I go out with regularly, I feel young.

In SLT meetings I feel young.

My sister is mid 30s and still lives at home and that seems quite old.

My aunt died in her late 30s. I definitely felt that was very young.

Rapunzel91 · 29/08/2021 22:07

I dont think its young. I'm 30, have a child, long term partner, house, dog and feel very 'grown up'. I definitely feel old compared to teenagers and young 20's but dont feel middle aged

Rahra · 29/08/2021 23:01

I’m 30 and I don’t feel young at all. I cried on my birthday I was that upset about being old Blush

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 29/08/2021 23:08

I’m 29. Someone pass the Werthers Originals, I’m turning old next year.

Happiestyearofmylife · 29/08/2021 23:12

I didn’t say it was old so just no longer young.

Anordinarymum · 29/08/2021 23:19

I suppose you have to get it into context. Have you achieved things you wanted to. Have you got friends who seem to have done more with their lives.
When you get to my age, 30 is young, no matter where you are in life, and even if there are goals to achieve, they are definitely doable.

It's also a question of how proactive you are. I am 66 and still feel great.

ManifestDestinee · 30/08/2021 09:19

@Happiestyearofmylife

I didn’t say it was old so just no longer young.
So when does young stop and when does old start? And what do you think the inbetween is?
maddiemookins16mum · 30/08/2021 09:26

Anyone under 40 is young to me. I can’t believe the start of the 90s was 3 decades ago.

furbabymama87 · 30/08/2021 09:30

It's young compared to the average life span but if I was describing a " young adult" I'd be talking about someone aged about 18 to 24.
