To not think a 30 year old is young

In any respect anymore

I’m 35 and definitely wouldn’t consider myself as young. Especially with the wrinkles and grey hairs. I would say up to mid 20s is a young adult

Trinacham · 29/08/2021 19:47

I'm 30 and think of myself as young still.

DariaMorgendorffer · 29/08/2021 19:47

30 is definitely young IMO!

Happiestyearofmylife · 29/08/2021 19:47

My mum users it as an excuse for my 30 year nephew to be reckless.

What age are you, op?

KingofQueens · 29/08/2021 19:49

30 is definitely young. The world is open to you at 30, so many opportunities and things you haven't yet experienced.

Happiestyearofmylife · 29/08/2021 19:49

Mid 40’s

I am 60.
30 is young.
But I clearly remember believing it wasn't young. I hated my 30th birthday in a way I haven't felt about any other birthday.

Kanaloa · 29/08/2021 19:53

Well it is quite young. If someone died at 30 people would still say ‘tragic, he was so young too.’

If someone retired at 30, people might say ‘wow she’s so young.’

But I did my a levels in my 20s and felt old because people normally do them in their teens. It’s all relative really.

Biancadelrioisback · 29/08/2021 19:55

Tell that to my 30 year old knees and back... They don't feel young...

amusedbush · 29/08/2021 19:58

I’m 31 and I feel young. Definitely not ‘young and daft’ in the way I was a decade ago, when it was more acceptable to make reckless decisions but yes, young enough that the world is still open to me.

For example, I went back to uni full-time as part of a career change last year because I realised how much of my life is still ahead of me and I want to do something I enjoy.

HavelockVetinari · 29/08/2021 20:00

The word 'young' is hugely subjective. For example, in working class communities, having a baby in your late teens/early 20s is normal. In middle class communities that's young.

To a teenager, a person in their mid-30s (like DH and me) is old. To my parents (in their 60s) it's young.

WRT your nephew - if he's not grown up by age 30 it might be his attitude, if might be the way he was parented, it might be undiagnosed SEN, it might be mental health issues, it might be he's just a fuckwit. Impossible to know.

KicksLikeASIeepTwitch · 29/08/2021 20:02

Great question. On another thread have been asking whether my daughter should accept a coffee with a random customer who asked her out.
I thought older but mid 20s, her Dad thought 30.
For some reason, it makes a difference...thirty seems old; should at least have some of your shit together and know how to ask someone on a date.
So no, I decided 30 was not young! Grin
But I guess you're as young as the girl you're hoping to feel Envy

Sparklfairy · 29/08/2021 20:03

I'm 33 and find new wrinkles everyday Sad

Peanutsandchilli · 29/08/2021 20:04

It's subjective. A child would think a 30 year old was ancient. A 70 year old would think they're extremely young.

Im 48 and i see 30 as young. My early thirties back in the 2000s were my best time.

Staffy1 · 29/08/2021 20:11

I think it’s young now, but I didn’t at the time I was 30. Same as I didn’t think I was young at 25 or 21 and always find it odd when people say they are “only” 25.

Rewis · 29/08/2021 20:11

"In any respect anymore" is a bit of an overstatement. If a 30yo dies it's not form an old age. It's still young enough to do big kite changes etc.

But it is old enough to know better and can't get away with doing stupid shit due to age.

ojss21 · 29/08/2021 20:11

I'm 36 and I still feel young. YABU. Grin

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 29/08/2021 20:15

30 seems very young to me!

Paint69 · 29/08/2021 20:18

YANBU

Oliveandsage · 29/08/2021 20:19

I’ve just turned thirty and I definitely still feel young, even though I’m married with two children one of which starts school soon and have owned our home for 8 years.

It’s all relative isn’t it? I’ve just finished my degree and I felt old compared to the 18 year olds on the course 😂

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/08/2021 20:20

Noah was 950 (sic) when he popped orf. So I think that in his book (presumably the Bible) 30 would be very, very young.

Echobelly · 29/08/2021 20:25

Entirely depends in what sense

It's old to be:

Having your first relationship
Moving out of your parents' for the first time

It's young in:

Your career
Your life
To be buying a house

For example
