Why must my neighbour have her washing machine on so early?

Since 9am this morning, it sounds like a Chinook helicopter is landing on my bedroom ceiling. By her own admission, there is no underlay beneath it and the noise is really quite something.
I would sympathise if she was a mum who needed to get the kids' uniforms on to wash, and then hang them outside to dry.
But she lives alone with no garden, and no outside drying area at all. Her washing could be done at ANY time of day.
I've already mentioned this to her and it makes no difference. In all other respects she is a good neighbour, so I don't want to rock the boat.
I am a single mum of 3, who works hard through the week. My kids are at their dad's place for their fortnightly weekend visit, and I'd just have loved a Sunday lie-in. Not even the bloody cat woke me up this morning! Grin

9am is a lazy lieabed. I get up by 7am every day even weekends! By 9am I am two hours in....

xenia you lazyarse. I'm up at 6.30 every day.

youdoyoutoday · 29/08/2021 19:31

I'm on your side OP, I think 9am on a Sunday morning is early!! I hate the lawn mower brigade on a Sunday morning!!'

@TerriblyNaice don't forget the triathlon first. You're just not making enough effort! (TIC before anyone bites). This ultimately comes down to different lifestyles but I'd say 10 on a weekend is reasonable. I live in a terrace and don't do noisy chores before then because I'm not up yet.

My washing machine takes 2.5 to 3 hrs for a normal load so if I don't put it on early the clothes won't get out on the clothes line until lunchtime. Maybe hers is similar?

Wow! Ours takes 37 minutes.

Anyone who goes to bed by 9-10pm is really fucking lazy. Why can’t they stay up later and do things, so lazy to want to go to bed. I’m running a 10k at 11pm - you’re all lazy

cadburyegg · 29/08/2021 20:44

YABU, she's allowed to do her washing at that time whether or not she has children 🙄

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 29/08/2021 21:04

@ABCDEF1234

I'm with your neighbour. If someone told me doing that washing anytime after 6.30 (maybe 7 on a Sunday) was not suitable for them and asked me to do it later in the day I would think they were a lazy neighbour who needed to stop staying in bed so late and pay 0 attention to their request. I wouldn't be giving up my days activities/plans so they could be lazy. I would be careful complaining as another option for your neighbour is to put it on overnight whilst she sleeps ready to dry as soon as she wakes up
You're not lazy for wanting peace until at least 8 am on the weekend. You, however, sound quite the arsehole.
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 29/08/2021 21:14

Notbingcanhurtme, so it's not an appropriate noise to hear in the background of a teams meeting? But OK to wake people up?

9am really isn't early unless you work very late.

And no it would not be appropriate to have a washing machine in the background of a serious meeting while someone may be being told that they face losing their children. Not all meetings can be adapted to be more casual in light of covid and people having to wfh. The morning catch up/team brief, sure. CIN meeting, not so much, and at the end of the day washing is something that has to be done even if it pisses off the neighbours. You don't actually know why she is doing it early.

I don't understand how any parent can still be asleep at 9am

MyPatronusIsACat · 29/08/2021 21:17

'Use earplugs' as an answer to people making noise is one of the most infuriating things I ever read on mumsnet! Hmm

However, I agree with the majority here that 9 a.m. isn't too early. I was expecting you to say 6.45 a.m.

speakout · 29/08/2021 21:23

Ear plugs are great! I am a light sleeper and my DS likes to cook at midnight. I would be wakened by clattering- but no longer. I buy the laser light ones- a game changer!

Jangle33 · 29/08/2021 21:24

9am really is not early I suspect your children disturb her all the time…

Older kids? A second parent taking the morning? Grandparents having the kids?
FindingMeno · 30/08/2021 11:27

I am on my 4th load of washing today, and put the first load on about 6am.
Luckily my washing antics don't disturb neighbours, but I wonder how I'd get by with a narrower window of potential laundry times.
Sometimes a lot needs doing at once, and it's hardly frivolous, just a part of life.

Are there not 7 days in a week where you are?

😂

2 night owl parents = a baby that slept midnight till noon.

11 years later and she wouldn’t be up before 9am given the choice. Nor would I.

FindingMeno · 30/08/2021 14:22

@NavigatingAdolescence, but 5 or 6 work days in a usual week and a shift worker in the house.
Mornings are my laundry window and if I couldn't start till after 9 I'd be pretty stuffed.
