To think this was a perfect example of mansplaining?

My friends partner showing me how to use a basic toastie machine. You know the ones which a 4 year old could use? With step by step instructions from him. (Was looking after his son for a few hours over lunch as a favour)

Oh I would really appreciate this lol I hate using other peoples appliances they can be so similar but then different in one crucial way! Im not a stupid person but can't for the life of me work out some hi tech ovens Grin

@aaaaah

If it's anything like my hot plate, the light will be in when it's actively heating and using electric. Then it'll go off and come back in and then off and then back on etc to keep the hot parts at a constant temperature. Maybe..

I have to womansplain to my DH every damn time that the butter goes on the OUTSIDE of the bread.

Journeyofthedragons · 27/08/2021 11:09

To say this is "mansplaining" is the same as calling a woman "Karen" when she complains.

Thank you! Seems a bit pointless to have the light then.

@BitcoinWillSaveYourLife

People are dying in Afghanistan with others fleeing for their lives and you’re complaining about someone describing to you how to use a toastie?
Oh for god's sake.

Are we no longer entitled to get irritated by anything in out lives without someone virtue signalling about the horrifying situation in Afghanistan.

We had this on my local fb page last night when someone complained about people stealing shopping trollies from a local supermarket and leaving them scattered about the town; exactly the same thing, people feeling for their lives etc.

I'm pretty certain BitcoinWillSaveYourLife that a very large percentage of the people reading this are as shocked and as horrified as you are by the ghastly situation the Afghan people have been put in, however, they can still be irked about life's little annoyances without feeling they're letting down the population of Afghanistan because they're not worrying about them 24/7.

People are still allowed to live their lives, think about other things and even laugh from time to time.

My 13 year old witnessed some mansplaining and was complaining about it in the car. She was saying to her sister, did you see "S" mansplaining to "H" about that accounting system even though she's an accountant and uses it every day.

Her sister then asked what mansplaining meant. Her answer was brilliant, she said "it's when some men think because they have a penis that they have a bigger brain".

I butter the outside - pre cooking obvs, it goes nice and crisp and golden. Slimy? No, how very dare you Wink

@ThreeLocusts

Of course mansplaining! What grown woman wouldn't know how to use a toastie maker? Only men have a chance of reaching adulthood not finding this self-evident.
I have no idea how to use a toastie maker. Until I read this thread I would never have thought to butter the outside of the bread.
aaaaah · 27/08/2021 14:50

@Comefromaway same. I find it a bit insulting that as a woman it is expected I should know how to use one

Totally agree

My ex used to tell me what should be the case in my profession and on some things I was working on when i spoke of my work. He had never worked in my profession and knew nothing.

That was mansplaining.

Perhaps he didn't want you messing up his nice toastie machine
