We had a film crew near us a few year’s ago. They wanted to film rural farm scenes, and the farmer reluctantly agreed.
That is until they asked the farmer if he/they could possibly cover up all those nasty fluorescent numbers on the sheep, so that they all looked pure white.
I didn’t actually hear what he said to them, but suffice to say it contained a great deal of swearing, and he chased them all off of his land!!!
He didn’t get over it for months apparently Grin

GreenTortoise · 25/08/2021 19:29

Quick google tells you it's called The Power and an amazing series. They've been building since June though..

GreenTortoise · 25/08/2021 19:29

Amazon*

MiddleClassProblem · 25/08/2021 19:29

It’s interesting that OP claims to not want to drawn attention to the area yet is doing just that

Strafficy · 25/08/2021 19:32

How so? I haven’t named the place

Oh god. I live near a tricky to access beauty spot that was made famous by a popular TV show.
It used to be a lovely walk.
Now there are thousands of tourists who keep injuring themselves and parking like idiots on the double yellow lines the council were forced to paint, because they couldn't possibly park a mile away and walk down to it like all the normal walkers had been doing for years before.

Now there's going to be some sort of development of it into a tourist attraction. To be fair to the farmer doing it, he may as well make some cash off the people who keep having to get airlifted off his land...

twinkletoedelephant · 25/08/2021 19:37

Doggo was most impressed to find a dozen or so cars and film scouts all over his favourite doggo walk location. They helpfully left car boots open so he could get a proper could look at all the nice cars and a few even shared snacks. He now gets the zoomies if he sees a car parked up there again in case a stranger is willing to share a cheese sandwich again...its the kfc Bush all over again

Titsywoo · 25/08/2021 19:38

I doubt it will make any difference OP. It's not like they will give a map of the location and even a few days filming will probably be 5 mins of the actual program. Most people won't think 'oh I must go there'.

DontWiltMySpinachPlease · 25/08/2021 19:39

They've probably paid a hefty sum to be there.

Susannahmoody · 25/08/2021 19:41

Can you at least give us the county?

BluebellCockleshell123 · 25/08/2021 19:42

@caoraich I know exactly where you are talking about! I’m local to this place too and it’s exactly this scenario that sprang into my head from the OP.

It’s such a shame when special places like this get too popular for the size of them.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 25/08/2021 19:43

@caoraich I don't suppose it was Game of Thrones you're talking about? The Dark Hedges? They're going to be ruined by the tourists going there Sad

caughtinanet · 25/08/2021 19:44

How will we know what not to watch if you don't tell which programme it is Grin

MasterBeth · 25/08/2021 19:45

Heaven forbid that lots of people should enjoy what you enjoy…

Onairjunkie · 25/08/2021 19:46

My house has been used as a filming location for a couple of crime dramas. I absolutely love having them all here, and it pays really bloody well. Not only that, they’re so careful they don’t damage anything and where they empty the rooms, they give it the clean of its life.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/08/2021 19:55

Where are you? We love watch filming and TV stuff being made. Me and mates come down and just watch in the background we're no trouble we've got tents and land rovers and stuff, have a great time, get a bit pissed, have a big bonfire, few laffs. Fireworks, stone fights, nicking peoples washing, that sort of stuff. Nothing nasty maybe a bit of punch-up with some leary neighbours. You know let their tyres down etc etc. BUT we always post a little note through locals houses letterboxes first so they know we're alright and naice.

toocold54 · 25/08/2021 19:56

This happens a lot in Cornwall and you find it’s people like the actors or directors etc who are originally from there which is how they know about the secret spots.

I love when there is filming close by. Even if it’s in the same county I get excited. We don’t have much going on in Cornwall Grin

Kanaloa · 25/08/2021 19:56

Maybe dress your kids up in the appropriate period clothing and stand by the side of filming inserting them into shots and acting like an overzealous stage mother trying to get your child a part?

In seriousness it is a bit annoying. Surely they won’t be filming for long though? I don’t know how long it would usually take but if they’re filming in an outdoor spot it’s likely just for a few scenes and should be done soon.

toocold54 · 25/08/2021 19:57

My house has been used as a filming location for a couple of crime dramas.

Wow that’s amazing! I’ve never heard of anyone having their house used before!

MerlinsButler · 25/08/2021 20:15

They used our local council estate for Common as Muck years ago! Smilegreat fun to watch and got to meet Edward Woodward. They actually managed to make it look nicer than it was. Lol. Sadly it didn't put it on the tourist map!

GoWalkabout · 25/08/2021 20:23

If you live in Bristol its super easy to put your house up to be used in things.

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 25/08/2021 20:24

You can register your house (or any property) on various sites to be used for media/TV/Film. My friend did this and got paid a very good sum of money.

newnortherner111 · 25/08/2021 20:25

The mate's husband missed a trick, should have asked for a fee to move his vehicle, as it is a commercial venture.

Grilledaubergines · 25/08/2021 20:30

Do you watch any tv yourself, OP?

Because everywhere external has a filming location. Presumably you’re fine with other people being affected, just not you?

I hope there’s a fucking great influx of visitors there.

That's exactly what I thought of too!
