To think this is a threat of my manager?

I've had some time of due to IBS and vomiting the GP has given me a sick note today for two weeks.

I have emailed my manager to let her know that I have had a few bad days and don't feel well enough to return.

She emailed me back to say she will have to check when my start date is to see where I am in the sickness policy.

I'm still in my probationary period so I am
Worried about loosing my job but I can't work when I'm this sick.

AIBU to think this is a dig? We are badly understaffed so I get it, but I'm already worrying about other things let alone work.

She may be trying to do you a favour by checking on the sickness policy. Quite often, the amount of sick pay you have depends on how long you've been there, and she may be trying to make sure you're aware that you might not qualify for as much as you think you might.

Obviously if you're ill, you're ill, and you're not going to go back because your sick pay has run out, but if it gets to that borderline situation where you could cope with going back but it will be a bit of a struggle, the pay issue might make a difference.

You need blood tests and endoscopies to diagnose you. You can't claim to have an illness you haven't been diagnosed with.

@Geamhradh

"In my workplace it's called OT as it's the department which makes the necessary post-diagnosis adjustments for employees."

I am a retired Occupational Therapist...where there are work practices or equipment advice to be given then they could get involved but believe me, Occupational Therapists have NOTHING to do with the treatment of IBS unless it maybe has a mental health or lifestyle stress cause.

yup this absolutely. IBS is a diagnosis made by ruling out other (usually more serious) things. www.nhs.uk/conditions/irritable-bowel-syndrome-ibs/

I can't believe people on here are questioning you about your illness. 😂

it makes a difference. people who have a properly diagmosed chronic condition (or are going through a diagnosis process) have more employment rights than people who have symptoms which might or might not be.

Oh come on, @godmum56, it's not just asking questions to help OP, it's making insinuations.

My sickness at work is disregarded under reasonable adjustments for my disability. Is IBS a disability ?

bloatedandfedup · 24/08/2021 16:37

This has been going on for years I've always been fobbed of with movical and enemas, i had a endoscopy and colonoscopy before I moved house and several blood tests this year. I haven't just gone to the doctors last week and self diagnosed myself with IBS. I didn't even know IBS-c was a thing I thought it was just diarrhoea.

I don't think my GP would put me on linzess if I didn't have IBS?

linzess can also be used for idiopathic bowel issues. My point is not personal but its like getting a senco statement for a child. The formal diagnosis turns it into a chronic illness which can be counted as a disability and therefore give better employment rights.

I can't speak for other posters. My posts have been about offering the right advice, as you will see from my most recent one.
