I mean, come tomorrow I'll be able to say "next week, in autumn" and it'll be more or less true, even though the first couple of weeks of September are usually pretty summery here.

I'm looking forward to
The leaves changing colour
Wearing coats again
Frosty mornings
The kids being back at school (sorry, kids!)
Eating porridge for breakfast
Being able to go hiking without worrying about ticks, midges or thunderstorms

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen

I still want a hot summer.
Same here. Why are people banging on about autumn when there's hardly been a summer?

There’s a similar thread already that you might like.

I love autumn 😍

ilovesooty · 22/08/2021 11:24

Anyone can have soup, home made bread and hot chocolate any time as well.

Why do people romanticise Autumn so much anyway? Those crisp leaves are invariably soggy with persistent rain for a start.

aerosocks · 22/08/2021 11:28

I love autumn, it has always been my favourite time of year. Good weather is a bonus instead of an expectation (which often lets you down) and I've never been a sun worshipper anyway.

The horse chestnut leaves are changing colour already...

Luckyelephant1 · 22/08/2021 11:28

I love Autumn, it just has such a cosy feel to it. But I'm pissed off we've barely had a summer so I'm hoping there's a bit of a heatwave first.

mangomania · 22/08/2021 11:31

What has happened to summer - this is the question?? For the last few years (unless my mind is playing tricks in me), August was at least 30 degrees for weeks on end. The kids rooms were too hot, they had to decamp into the basement floor for the majority of the school holidays. The heat was unbearable (in London - I guess it’s better near the coast). But this year is a washout.

Maybe Autumn will be clear and sunny? That would be nice..

mangomania · 22/08/2021 11:33

I seem to recall it was 30 degrees for about a week in July? This is in London. The carpet fitter wouldn’t work that week because of the heat. But that’s all we had.

Icecreamsoda99 · 22/08/2021 12:10

Now craving porridge! Looking forward to changing my seasonal decor, yes I'm one of them Wink

Curiosity101 · 22/08/2021 12:31

I love Autumn too. I prefer the light nights of summer but have never enjoyed the heat. Tbh our recent summer weather has been perfect for me 😄

But as someone who has a baby due in September I'm especially excited about Autumn this year. I'm looking forward to Autumn walks with DH, DS and the baby. Going pumpkin picking and lots of other fun Autumn activities 😁

MrSnowmansCarrotStickNose · 22/08/2021 12:45

I've been feeling that way this week. I'm ready for the change in season. It feels a bit like we're in limbo at the minute with warm rain. If I wear a coat I'm sweating, if I don't wear a coat I'm soaked in rain. I don't know what to wear for this weather. No doubt come January I'll be ready for the heat again.
I've already started putting together my hot chocolate station for the kids for after school and looking forward to cozy weekends in front of the fire and a good movie.

Livpool · 22/08/2021 12:54

YABU as we haven't had a summer yet!

I have to be honest I don't get all the autumn love - it isn't like New England. Where I live it is usually damp and miserable

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/08/2021 12:55

YADNBU. I love autumn Smile

orangejuicer · 22/08/2021 12:57

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/08/2021 12:59

@BeBraveAndBeKind

I love autumn too. The colours and the beautiful light quality and the crunch of leaves. Not to mention hot chocolate and snuggly blankets on the sofas. It's the best season.
I have snuggly blankets on the sofas all year! Even here (SE) there can be chilly evenings in summer - esp. in the sort of summer we’ve had this year.
Keeva2017 · 22/08/2021 13:05

For the last week Iv been craving Autumn- I know that sounds dramatic but that’s the best word to describe it.

gardeninggirl68 · 22/08/2021 13:09

time to get out my slow cooker.....stew and dumplings incoming

was looking at some slow cooker liners. never use it in spring/summer

GoodnightGrandma · 22/08/2021 13:11

I saw a group of geese flying today, made me think that winter is on the way.

DroopyClematis · 22/08/2021 17:55

I love autumn.
I love the smell of it. Can't put my finger on it but there's a distinctive smell to it.

While I'm sad about getting rid of summer in my garden, I start to look forward to new options for spring.

Summer has been very disappointing as much of my garden has, strangely, been chomped away and I've had barely any veg.

Also love wearing scarves and hats and going for chilly walks with the dog.

Bring it on.

romany4 · 22/08/2021 18:25

Love Autumn. My favourite season.
Frosty or foggy mornings.
Leaf shuffling.
Cosy dark evenings.
Lovely dark mornings....hate being awake at stupid o'clock because it's so bright and the birds start tweeting at 4amt
And the best bit...It's countdown to Christmas!!

sbhydrogen · 22/08/2021 18:36

I'd like the skip most of autumn and winter and bundle head first into spring.

bleachblondemom · 22/08/2021 20:08

Fully with you- I love autumn! And winter. September to December is my favourite time of year. Just thinking about Autumn being just around the corner makes me feel all fuzzy and nice inside.

bleachblondemom · 22/08/2021 20:09

@DroopyClematis I know what you mean about the smell!

Duchess379 · 22/08/2021 20:10

Bah humbug! Not a fan of Autumn or Winter I'm afraid 😠

ActonSquirrel · 22/08/2021 20:11

Hate autumn. Already the sunrise at 6am is getting to me as so late. Have to be up very early to work

Vicliz24 · 22/08/2021 22:17

Nope full on Spring/ Summer girl here . I just don't enjoy the decay and inevitable slide into freezing cold and bare trees .
